Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Sooooooooooooooo glad I'm not the only one....

Oh wow...me too! I thought I was the only one prepping to do a run/walk! So glad I found this thread! I've been doing 2min/1min and 3min/1min on my training runs. Any way I look at it I am going to be cutting it very close to keeping up with the pacing requirements. This will be my first 1/2 and I just want to have fun!

Is anyone dressing up for this race? I know it may not lend itself to costume quite as much as the Princess did, but in the last 2 years that I've spectated (is that a word!?!) at this race, I have seen quite a few costumes. Just wondering if anyone got creative? I'm going with a Minnie themed running outfit...much like my Princess themed outfit in my pic, but just with Minnie stuff and Minnie colors rather than Princess stuff and pinks.

I'm not being creative this race, just plain running stuff, may get some disney character colors and make something from it. I plan on just walking through water stops, run the rest of it.

Not a big full costume person. I'd get too hot and irritated after about 5 miles and rip the whole thing off. :rotfl2: But I will be accessorizing my regular running outfit. I found a lady online who makes nail decals so I have the DL 1/2 logo and the little running mickey in the mail. I also found some silver lightweight cardboard headband thing that has Mickey ears on it. Just going to bend the ears up and put it on my hat where the head part meets the bill part. I was hoping I could find those Mickey Ear Barrettes that I've seen before. If I find them down there, then I'll just clip those on the side of my hat instead.

Tip for anyone who hasn't run the race before... we start at the top of an underpass so we go downhill/uphill right off the bat. But it's not bad! :goodvibes

I'm hoping to do a Minnie theme as well. I picked up the perfect fabric for it at a steal yesterday so I'm hoping this weekend I'll figure out the details. :cool1:

I think I'm going to run in the same outfit I used for the Princess this year.
The picture of it is to the right (with the pirates)!

sounds cute! Love the nail decal idea!! Kind of what I'm doing too...just embellishing a regular running outfit. I'm wearing a red team sparkle skirt over my normal compression shorts that I run in, black sleeveless running top embellished with a minne iron on on the front and one on the back that says I "heart" Mickey!, the cutest ever handmade little minnie earrings (found on Etsy.com), a red w/ white polka dot sweat wicking band for my head and a super cute handmade minnie ponytail holder (also found on Etsy.com). I love the idea of dressing in theme for the Disney races, but I'm with you...don't think I could handle a full-on costume like I've seen some people wear!

very cute! I REALLY want to run in a tutu at some point...I have no idea why! I was all set to run in one for the Princess, ordered it and just couldn't do it...it was alot "poofier" than I was expecting it to be and I was just so paranoid it was going to drive me crazy and I was going to have to ditch it...so I chickened out and went with the team sparkle skirt instead...which I love. I still have the tutu though...maybe it will make an appearance at a future Princess half...I've vacuumed the house in it before for fun...kept me motivated to keep cleaning! :rotfl2:

Minnie here as well. Black tank, red/white polka dot running skirt, black socks, shoes with yellow, red/white polka dot bow on top of a black cap. No ears, I think they'd be distracting for me.

A whole mile. My first walk breaks is scheduled after about 40 seconds but I may run slow and stretch that first one a little bit longer.:rotfl2: Right now, the plan is run :40/walk :40 until I'm through the theme parks then up it to :60/:40. I normally keep the first interval open and go with the flow until things thin out a little bit. In my first 2 I started out walking from the back. With my corral placement I'll probably want to start out slowly running.

I've never tried a set amount of time to run/walk. How do you keep track? I just run till I need a break then I'll walk for a bit until I feel like running again. :confused3

I am undecided on running in costume. I for sure want to for the Tinkerbell race in January.

It will be too hot to dress up. :( Not even going to try it.

As far as the link for the updates throughout the race, they usually send that out right before the race...like a week. But, I know that I am not the only one that had difficulties with it. It would update sometimes but things would get delayed and you would get three messages at once for three different parts of the course.

That was the best thing about Runkeeper Pro on my iPhone. It had the actual part of the course I was on and the stats, and at the same time could handle my intervals. For anyone that uses those, it is fantastic! The first time I ran using intervals, I just used my Nike+ Sportsband, but then did the Runkeeper Pro that alerts you when you need to run or walk which was sooo much easier!!

I use my Garmin to set my run and walk intervals. The only downside is it's not easy to change it on the fly.

DW has the Garmin 110 and I couldn't figure out how to set up intervals, can it be done and how do you do it:confused3. I have the Timex GPS and it is very easy to set up.

So my training has gone a lot better than anticipated. Is it possible to make a corral change? If so, how? :goodvibes

If you are in another race before then, you can claim that time by submitting proof to the RunDisney team. But, to be honest, you can just walk to whatever corral you want to be in (except maybe the top few). The Princess seemed to be a bit more strict with corral placement but every other Disney race I have been in wasn't as strict. But, it also doesn't hurt to just move up to the very front of the corral you are placed in instead...you will still be in a good position to separate yourself from the pack if you wish to.

Bring your proof of time from another race with you to the Expo/packet pick up and go to the runner relations booth/table and they will get it changed for you.

I don't think the 110 does interval workouts. I have the Garmin 305. I need to set up an advanced workout for mine to get it to last long enough for the entire race.

Thank you both for the response. I'll probably try to make the corral change at the expo. Just to be "legit"!

I was thinking about this during my run yesterday...if everyone has 3.5 hours from when the last person crosses the finish line - those in the front have more opportunity than those in the back. Do they do a wave start?

I use Runkeeper on my iPhone and have a coaching program with whatever intervals I'm using for a particular run. It tells me when to run or walk, plus it's set up to give me audio cues every quarter mile so I can keep track of my approximate pace. I know , I know, it's totally uncool to run with an iPhone, but it makes my husband (and me!) feel safer and my daughter can get in touch with me if necessary. Plus, all my music is on there and I can't run without music. I use a SpiBelt for my phone and my key and I don't even know it's there.

Lately I've been training with a 3/1 interval. I was planning on working up to a 4/1 interval for race day, but a friend who ran last year told me that the course is pretty much a false flat where you are going uphill almost the entire time. Roads like that are my nemesis so I am going to keep it at a 3/1 and hope that I can stay under 16min/mile!
