Official 2009 College Football Discussion Thread

Long day yesterday and a little chilly in Tuscaloosa but we were thankful it finally stopped raining (I put my ark-under-construction aside).

We were in attendance as Bama beat South Carolina 20-6. USC doesn't have a bad defense at all. But our quarterback had a bad game (2 int's, 1 fumble). The slack was picked up by our running back who carried it for 246 yards.

During the all-day tailgate on campus we watched Florida-Arkansas and Southern Cal-Notre Dame. Earlier we watched Texas-Oklahoma. Too bad about Bradford's injury. I wonder if he came back too soon and wasn't fully healed. Arkansas almost pulled off the upset but for the second week in a row, Florida did not look fully in control. But they got the "W" so that is what counts this week. I was pulling hard against Notre Dame (as any self-respecting Bama fan does). It's a good thing Charlie Weiss has that iron-clad contract or else he'd be gone.

Oh, and the Barn lost to Kentucky.

Roll Tide Roll!

You know, even though we didn't win yesterday, and probably won't win but one more game this year, I still don't insult B**A fans with nasty terms. Maybe Ed should do the same.

If you would like to use that term, I would prefer you go back to al.com where the rest of that type reside. This here is a fun loving group that picks nicely on each other. Try to keep the respect of others and play nice. No one likes a sore winner, and you sir, are that very person.

I will ask again for you to play nice, however, it will be the last time I am nice about it.:thumbsup2

We really enjoyed the games this past weekend while camping at our local campground. The weather was fabulous, and we even had a campfire going. We La. people really look forward to that first cold blast of air. We Cajuns actually refer to this weather as football weather and gumbo time.
Sadly, due to circumstances not under my control, we will not be able to travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU-Auburn game and will have to watch it on TV. Sure hope it is a good game and the best team wins. Love college football and WDW.

Where did y'all camp?

I agree with the cooler weather and I did make my gumbo Sunday!

Really enjoyed watching some good games this weekend. Looking forward to listening on the radio to the LSU vs Auburn game - as we'll be playing in a soccer tournament. It's fun to try and find a TV to catch bits of the game.

I always loved going to Baton Rouge to see the games. I don't think that LSU is going to have a problem. We are too badly beaten up and broken already this season. Our lack of depth is really starting to show. Being married to a cajun, I do miss that gumbo there. Best of luck on Saturday to both teams. (we are going to need it);)

I was a bad Auburn fan this weekend. Missed most of the first quarter due to an Oktoberfest Party at my campout, then went back to the camper and managed to listen (no TV reception, just XM Radio) through about 1/2 of the third quarter. Then zzzzzzzzzz, next thing I know I wake up and they lost!!!!

Carol hangs her head in shame......

Was donating to the Biloxi casinos during the Arkansas game......

Can't wait to actually go to the Homecoming game in Person!!!

I can't wait to go either, however, I don't think you want to sit with me. My son has already told me that my instrument plays notes "too high and mommy's musical instrument hurts my ears." He says, "I'm sitting with daddy in the French Horn section, but not next to the tubas, they are too loud."

You have to love 5 year olds. However, yesterday he said that he was sitting with Aunt Carol, so who knows what two weeks will bring!

Hi Kaguilbeau, in answer to your question we like to camp at Indian Creek campground which is about 30 miles north of us and is located about 10 miles south of Alexandria. Chicot State Park is actually closer to us (about 12 miles) but we enjoy Indian Creek better because of the good hunting and fishing available.

Hi AuburnJen, there's no such thing as homefield advantage when your team plays inconsistently. We have made the trip to Auburn in the past and enjoyed it very much. We met both friendly and die hard fans while there.

Will be watching college football games on the tv. Hope the best team wins.
Love college football and WDW.

An officiating crew for the SEC has been suspended for one weekend for poor calling of personal fouls. I think it is about time they should be responsible for their work. The head coaches are, the assistants are, and the fans hold the universities accountable for wins and losses. The officiating in the SEC has been horrible this year, especially in the games this crew has been in the past weeks. (and no, neither one of them has been my alma mater for those of you I know are asking)

Here is the story...

Jen- The story about the suspended SEC crew was in my local paper this morning. I say good. I hate it when the outcome of a game is arguably affected by a really bad call. The excessive celebration penalty is one that really needs to be looked at. The week after the GA/LSU fiasco, I didn't see one of those penalties called in any of the games I watched, but I saw some pretty poor sportsmanship going on in some of those games. What drives me nuts is when things that have been overlooked for the entire game suddenly get called when the game gets close at the end. What is up with that? I hope this suspension sends the message that these guys need to be fair and consistent.

FSU at NC tonight. Can FSU get its season turned around? I think they will. I will be watching for FSU to wake up and start playing like FSU tonight.

UF finally gets featured in a prime time game on ESPN, and it is against Mississippi State? ESPN/ABC is just bent that CBS gets the best SEC games.

The games I am looking forward to the most this weekend are Auburn at LSU (I think this one could go either way depending on which team shows up for both schools), and Tennessee at Alabama. A lot of folks say Alabama is better than Florida. A lot of folks say Tennessee is on the up-swing. Saban is a way better coach than Kiffin. So, I look for Alabama to win this one. But, you never know. That's why you have to play the game.

Good football this weekend!

Jen,

I saw your note here - sorry I haven't been on this board in a while.

It may come as a surprise to you that Bama fans here live among Auburn fans, chat in the Sunday church parking lots, talk around the water cooler, kibitz at the Waffle House, make small talk at the mall, and catch up on the soccer fields. Even among strangers there can be a playful level of give and take which you might not be aware of between good natured people with a sense of humor. Regardless of who's up, who's down, and even what time of year it is. I did "play nice" in my post by not mentioning Coach Chiz, any of the Auburn players' performance, or other issues despite the abundant opportunities. No nasty terms allowed.

If you don't like my opinion about Notre Dame, it is becoming a main streat position if you read this week's columns by Pat Forde, Gene Wojciechowski, and the Ivan Meisel-Beano Cook podcast this week on the ESPN college football web site (love Beano!). If you want further relevant facts I can provide them to show that it is an informed opinion.

I can't recommend the al.com boards to you but it was a good guess.

It doesn't matter to me what you or anyone else says about Bama. Shoot, I might even agree with it if it's objective, reasoned, fact-based, and honest. If I don't agree, I let it go. Time will tell each week.

I like you and respect you as I do all the posters on this board and while my limits might not be your limits, we're all attempting to act within our limits.

Bama ED

PS-beside my own TN-Bama game this weekend of course, I'll be interested in the Arkansas-Ole Miss game. I think Arkansas is getting stronger as the season goes on and this will be a good indicator of what's to come in the second half of the year.

You act like I have no clue as to what goes on in Alabama. All of my in-laws are from Birmingham and I lived in the state for 9 years. I am well aware of what goes on. I asked that you not use derogatory terms. You go on a tangent about other things to change the subject. Geez.

I do believe that Arkansas will give whomever they play for the rest of the season a run for their money, as they say. I have no idea what Petrino said to them after they played Alabama, but it worked. They had our number good and they had Florida's. Florida fans have to admit they were given that game, but that is college football. I pity the fool that plays ARK the rest of the season, just pity.

Go Gators! And that's all I have to say about that.

Wow! FSU is not dead yet.

Down 24 to 6 at the start of the second half, they come back for a win on the road.

They were dang lucky.

But it is good to see old Bobby back shooting off his mouth about how FSU's quarterback should be mentioned in the same discussion with Tebow, McCoy and Bradford.

Child, please.

I heart Bobby. Dadgummit!

But, Go Gators!
