The following is a paraphrase from the official WDW internal website related to the 2008 Disney Dining Plan and Gratuity. I did not see what is listed as the official start date.

Rather than publishing the entire post (since it is very long), here is basically what will happen with relation to Table Service (including buffet) meals:

1. Normally Gratuity is not included. For certain meals, such as CRT or shows it is.

2. For parties of six or more people, an 18% gratuity will automatically be added.

3. For anything not on DDP, such as alcoholic beverages, extra menu items, and plated meals for children under three, an 18% gratuity will automatically be added to the bill (for those items only), no matter what the party size.

Nope, no grat will be added. From what I've been told, lets just pretend you are on the DDP, and your bill is $100 including the alcohol, and you are a party of 3(thus no grat). The check will inform you an 18% tip is $18, and a $20 tip is $20. When you hand the server your room card(for the DDP), they will ask you how you would like to settle the rest of the bill. If you say do a room charge, there will be a room charge of $8 for the two pretend beers you had, and then with that is there you will write in the $15 or so tip.

If you are a party of 6, then grat is added to everything even though you are on the DDP. When you give the server your card, they will ask how you how you would like to pay the rest(the grat). You can have them do a room charge, cash, or another credit card, it doesn't matter.

I was curious as to how this would be handled. I had understood that before 2008, the 18% was added because the gratuity was included for portion of the meal covered by the DDP. Since the grat is no longer included, it will not be imposed on the rest of the bill.

Is this correct?

I think there will be a lot of irate people if they try this stunt. And I will be one of them. There's no way they can charge you 18% gratuity for additonal items you order since the gratuity isn't included!

They really need to update that!

Well, there is actually a way they can do it. Some folks may not like it, but I suspect most will be okay with it.

Time will tell if they do or not.

I will have 2 adults and 4 kids- we are taking my neice. Well I have a 10 month old- is he considered part of the party of 6. Or is it really who they are serving- we have a 2, 4, 5 year old as well. Just wondering. THanks in advance

Figure they'll count each person, so that you'll be considered a party of six. It may not always be the case, but you can be sure they'll never consider you a party of seven.

What about the service charge at the Pepper Market?

Correct. If you are a party of 5 on the DDP, no grat at all will be included for the 08 plan.

...and they won't. I think ya might have misread something above.
