Alternative thread title: I’m such an idiot 🙄

Feel free to laugh at me - my wife is gone for a trip this week, so she’s not around to give me crap for what I’ve just done. 🫣

I got back from Costco a little while ago. Was finishing up unloading my car and grabbed the big box of produce and other stuff (including eggs :o ) and decided to try to balance the box on my leg while I reached for the trunk close button.

Yeah - if you’re playing along at home, you probably already know what’s coming next. Egg homicide 😨.

I just got finished going through the carnage - of the 24 eggs, 13 were miraculously unharmed, 4 eggs I was able to put in a bowl with yokes intact and the rest I was (mostly) able to salvage to make scrambled eggs at a later time (they’re already scrambled anyway).

Kids - don’t try this at home 😉. I should have just want back and closed my trunk (or just used my remote from the house). But no, why do the logical thing? 🤣

could have been worse-you could have broken them INTO your car:scared: don't beat yourself up-i did something similar and did'nt realize a single canister of pop and fresh biscuits had fallen out and rolled under the back seat...............did'nt realize until about a month later when during a drive the thing exploded and threw nasty, smelly bits of dough throughout the car:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

You see this is why I don't let DH have a COSTCO card. Even when I let him go with me it results in excessive charges on my bill. Last thing I need is scrambled eggs on my driveway.

PS ~ you can freeze eggs, not in the shell. I have dozens in my freezer to use later for baking etc.

I do most of the grocery shopping for our house 🙂. Maybe don’t make the best decisions when I carry them in, but we did need eggs (preferably intact ones 😉)

When I was about 11 or 12 I begged my father to let my carry the watermelon from the car to the kitchen.

I got about 6 inches from the counter and..I dropped it trying to lift it a few inches. SPLAT!!! It broke into a hundred pieces, seeds and juice everywhere, counter, floor, backsplash, etc.

I think we were able to salvage maybe 25% of it.

On one very memorable occasion about 20 years ago, DH & I had just had lunch in a small country town in the South while out on a day trip with some relatives during the holidays. We were making our way back to the highway when a battered old pickup pulled out in front of us at a crossroad. The truck was VERY haphazardly loaded with strapped-down crates of eggs, and I mean a LOT of eggs, and they were stacked in such a way that the stack got wider the higher it got above the bed and cab of the truck. There were two preteen boys riding in the bed with the eggs, sitting on the chained tailgate. Their job was presumably to alert the driver if the egg stack started to wobble, but the system clearly wasn't working, because that load was swinging back and forth with every bump in the road.

DH and I were driving a rental, so we made it a point to back well off from the truck, but it was going in the same direction and moving slow, so we were stuck behind it. Being the sort of people we are, I started timing the trip to see how long it took for the load to fall: 23 endless minutes. The driver braked at a stop sign, a strap gave, and we watched it happen like it was in slow-motion. The kids tried to jump clear but failed, so they ended up totally covered in broken eggs, just standing there dripping, with shells in their hair. We managed to drive around before the road ended up totally inundated, but it was one hell of a mess.

I never dropped the eggs, but I did once come in with groceries, then find that I left them on the counter all night. I think it was only a problem for the milk - everything else was fine. I felt dumb though.

We do a curbside grocery pick-up order at Walmart each week. The store is a few miles away and a nightmare to shop in, but the prices can't be beat around here. I always put in the order the night before and DH drives over to do the pick-up and unloads the car. I usually put the stuff away, but one day a few months ago, I was doing something else so he put everything away. It wasn't until the next day that I realized the salmon I ordered wasn't in the refrigerator. I asked DH if it was in the bags and he said, "I think so?" I checked the order and we did, in fact, pay for it. I checked all through the fridge and in the freezer in case he put it there and forgot. No $24 value pack of salmon filets to be found. I was about to open the app. and contact the store when I got the idea to check my car. Yep! He missed a bag when he was unloading the car. I found my salmon, 10 containers of yogurt and some shredded cheese. Everything was warm and squishy and had to be tossed. Because Walmart is so far out of the way and I wasn't able to get there during the week, I ended up replacing the stuff at Safeway, which was convenient but cost more. Now I check the car after DH does grocery pick-ups.

I should have started doing it after the zucchini incident last year. Something was rolling around in the back of my SUV on my way to work. I stopped to get gas after work and decided to open the back and investigate the noise. The culprit: two zucchini that were left behind from the previous day's grocery pick-up. I guess they didn't want to get chopped up and cooked.

Too funny! Good for you for at least going shopping. If I was away for the week my husband would live on take out. I can't think of the last time he went into a store.
