Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

The fact of the matter is that the thing that is affecting this competition the most is the fact that you have three singers of similar style and they are most likely splitting the vote of a similar fan base. Now that we are rid of one of them, I believe the stronger of the remaining two will rise above in the end

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

That was the first thing out of my mouth last night when the big reveal occurred! Jennifer didn't deserve the boot, but "C'est la vie. . ."

As I've said repeatedly throughout, I'm not blown away by any of this year's group. I'm disappointed that Jennifer is gone because I did enjoy her. I don't care for the others dubbed "diva" or my name for them "Aretha Wannabes". Of those then remaining, I wouldn't buy an album they made either. Hmmmm, I guess that means I now stop voting too. :p

I was completely shocked last night! I was trying to make sense of the bottom three. I was thinking that it was Jennifer's and Fantasia's attitude early on that destroyed a solid fan base. I can't figure out why LaToya was there. She is consistently good, great attitude and very pretty.

As for the others, I think the more mature crowd likes John Stevens for his crooning and the fact that he is so young, George has that sweet way about him and people like that (gets on my nerves a bit) , Dianna is young and does have a powerful voice so getting votes from both a mature and young crowd, Jasmine is good (not great) and established a fan base.

I don't vote this way. I vote for who I think was the best that week regardless of whether I like their personality or not. A good example is Fantasia, I have not liked her voice for the majority of the weeks, I do not like her attitude, but she floored me with Summertime and therefore that week she got my vote. I guess people are just voting for their favorite that they picked from day one.

Just to let you all know it is not just teeny boppers voting for John. There are a lot of older people who like him.

Why? Maybe someone can explain why he should be the new American Idol. He is so far beneath the others, and as the judges say it could all be because of his age. Maybe in 2 years or so he would be up to the caliber of singers they are really looking for. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice kid, but he can't sing very well - at least not compared to the others. You can even tell HE feels that way when the camera pans to him. I wonder if he'll end up taking himself out of the competition? Remember Christina Christenson? She was eliminated one week so there was no voting (she was sent to the hospital for being unwell- rumor had it she couldn't handle the pressure and had a mini breakdown).

Do you think that John would take himself out?

but then again, i think it's just because of his red hair... hehee

irish men are my weakness:o

Then maybe he belongs on America's Top Model instead of American Idol.

I thought they did an outstanding job last night as a group singing Let Freedom Ring! :)

Count me in! I'm 38 and only vote for John and sometimes Jasmine.

This week, it was my 8 year old voting and she only voted for John.

Sorry that you all disagree but I have right to vote for whomever I like. That is how the show works.

John (and maybe Jasmine) is the ONLY one whose CD I would buy. Neil Sedaka gave him a standing ovation so I'm in good company.

I'm not going to feel guilty voting for who I (we) like. We all have different tastes and opinions.

I, personally thought last night was very interesting. Just because the top 3 were in the bottom 3 positions doesn't make me want to stop watching! It's so exciting. It's just a show people. These people, if they really have talent, will get their record deals anyway, regardless of where they fall in the competition...like Tamyra Gray and Kimberly Locke etc... Justin who? He's already gone from the scene! Never liked him but he got to be #2.

Even though the talent this year is lacking, we're still having a great time watching even if someone I don't like wins, like last year!:teeth: There aren't that many shows I can watch with my 2 DDs so we still greatly enjoy AI no matter who wins/looses.

LOVETHATMOUSE -- Don't know what happened to my last post that disappeared on me. Anyway, I was thinking the same thing about John -- he looks so uncomfortable every time he doesn't get voted off. He knows that he doesn't deserve to stay on the show at this point. And -- I also wondered if he would take himself out of the competition. Every time he sings, he looks as tho he would rather be anywhere else than on that stage. I actually like him and his voice, but he doesn't belong in this competition any more. People should put him out of his misery and vote him off.

I'm stunned after last nights show. I cannot believe John wasn't in the bottom 3. The girls should not have been in the bottom. It should've been the other way around. What a bunch of bolgna!! John is waaaayyy out of his league and he knows it. His facial expressions say it all. I'm sorry but I will not watch this show anymore if he is America's next Idol. No way!! Hopefully Jennifer will get a record contract. She sung waaay better than John Stevens. Latoya and Fantasia did too. Unbelievable!!!!
:(

I missed last night's show but knew I could come here to find out who was voted off. Jennifer leaving is sure a big surprise. What did the judges have to say about who was in the bottom 3?

I think they need to change the voting rules before the next season of AI and either allow only one vote per phone number or have people vote for who they want to leave, not who they want to stay.

Actually, Christina was voted out. She happened to be in the hospital the night of the results, but she was the one voted out. I remember being disappointed because I thought it should have been RJ or Nikki to go home that night, becase she was better than both of them.

Notice how everyone figures that their opinion is fact. Just because you feel that someone is better or worse than somebody else, doesn't make it so. It is very condescending to put down other's tastes because they are different than your own. Obviously, every contestant has a very broad fan base or they wouldn't still be there.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Why not be able to vote for more then 1 person...if you liked their performances enough to want them to stay then vote for them. And I agree with the post that said "it is just a tv show"

Why do people like John? Because he is young and he doesn't screech and scream while he's singing. He doesn't overdo the dramatics. He just sings. And yes he looks like he is surprised when he gets to stay. He is 16, every week he is told he didn't do a good job, why shouldn't he look surprised. I give him credit for getting up there every week. I've said it before but you guys have to know the kid can sing! He participates in music festivals all over the place and wins. He scored a 100 singing an aria! Should he be an AI...no, he is no where near ready for it...but I don't think anyone from this bunch is ready.

Yes, I vote for John, so do my kids...I like him, so maybe I am tone deaf or a teeny bopper. I also voted for LaToya and Jasmine. Had a hard time getting through for John and Jasmine..never had a problem getting through for LaToya. My kids also voted for Diana.

Next week is Gloria Estevan with a back up band again...let's hope it's not a repeat of Ashford and Simpson week.

I totally agree that you should be able to vote for more than 1 person. Since they each have a different number there should be a way that your phone cannot vote more than once for each phone number. I have had phone surveys and contests before where you dial in, and if you try to dial again it tells you you have already called.

They should definitely change the voting procedure. The reason that those 3 ladies were in the bottom 3 is because everyone who would have voted for them thought that everyone else would be voting for them and that they did not need the votes. If I had known I would have voted for Jennifer to stay. I figured that everyone else would be voting so she did not need me.

They should change it to who should get voted off. Then you wouldn't have the ridiculous results that you had last night. People that did not pick up the phone to pick a favorite would have picked up the phone to eliminate John Stevens. I know I would have.

They wouldn't get as many votes because people are more passionate to keep their contestant in than boot others off. This is all about ratings and popularity. Again, it is entertainment and last night was VERY entertaining!

The ruder the judges get the more people will vote. And last night they were very rude. Contestants that continue to be humble despite all the adversity that is sent their way, will win the hearts of many voters.

This was the first time that I actually got to sit down and watch a wed. night show! It was weird, Ryan acted strange also. He's a bit mean about stating the results, etc.

I guess thats why everyone likes it so much, you never can predict the results.:D
