As sad as I was to see Amy go - I was sadder to see the camera focusing on John Stevens' face! The poor kid looked like he was gonna cry!

HOLY COW!!!! AMY GONE!!! Latoya in the bottom 3! How the hec is that even possible.

I was stunned by AI tonight... and very disappointed to see that 2 people who have decent singing voices and performance ability, Matt and Amy, have been ousted early.

I have thought this from the beginning.. but.. AI HAS to do something about allowing multiple votes from one telephone number. The thought that SOME people spend 2 hours hitting redial for their choice is amazing. I believe it would be a fair competition if each phone number was limited in the total number of votes made each week.

Yes performers have different fan bases.. yes teens do make up a large number of music sales.. actually I believe that a larger number of sales is made up of the 18-35 age group... not sure jmho...

Will I still watch AI?.. sure, am I going to change my voting practice of NOT doing multiple votes?.. nope... .will I be dealing with further disappointment?... I would say so....
Will I still enjoy hearing these kids sing their hearts out? YOU BET"CHA !!

<font face="times" size="+0">well, i have to agree i was shocked to see Latoya in the bottom 3. i mean, it was so obvious that between the two of them, John S. would be the one in the bottom 3. heh. the producers sure tricked us.

anyway, honestly, i wasn't surprised to see Amy and Jennifer in the bottom three. why? they were in the bottom 3 the first week. the first week is the only week IMO where there is no imbalance of votes caused by what some of you are calling "sympathy votes". so, IMO, the first week is the only week where there is a more true picture of who America likes.

as soon as the 2nd week comes around, someone has been in the bottom 3. if the contestants that end up in the bottom 3 have built up a good fan base, that fan base will freak out the following week and cast a million "sympathy votes" to keep them safe.

an article on Foxesonidol.com summarized this idea really well. basically, i understood the theory as:
in order for a contestant to get a lot of votes, they have to be either
1) REALLY good (both singing and personality) to compel America to vote for them.
or
2) REALLY horrible (usually bad only in the singing dept), BUT have built up a LOYAL fan base who will cast votes for you anyway... especially when it comes to "sympathy votes".

the contestants that are neither 1) or 2), but are in the middle... they don't get votes... and they end up in the bottom 3. it's an interesting theory, and i'm starting to believe it's pretty accurate.

also, IMHO, if a teenager (or other age person) is <i>so big a fan</i> of any one contestant that they spend an hour or two pressing redial on their phone to vote for their favorite... than props to that contestant for having the ability to create such a loyal fan. they deserve to be on American Idol.

i mean, yes, AI might say things about this being a singing contest... but in reality it's not. it's a popularity contest. being an idol is all about popularity. who cares about the singing? (well i care about the singing, but most of America does not. just look at Britney or Madonna. okay don't flame me, but they are mediocre singers and yet they're huge idols...)

btw, in Camille's defense, i don't think she's making "angry" or "mean" faces... i think she is petrified with stagefright. she's a really pretty girl who has a voice with a lot of potential, but just can't seem to loosen up and stop being nervous. i agree completely that this competition is not right for her at all. but i don't hate her, or think she's being angry on stage.</font>

Last night's show deserved a double whammy!

I was so ANGRY after this show I was shaking!! I so agree, this is a popularity contest, but if it REALLY was reflective of this board, Clay would've won last year.

Obviously the vote is different because the dedicated voters are not the demographics represented here.

I read on another board a message from a girl who voted 300 times for one of those AWFUL brothers from the prelims!!! 300 times??? I wouldn't take the time to vote 300 times for myself!

Oh, well, Simon is probably somewhere shaking his head and counting his money. This may be IT for AI.

America isn't voting for talent. The votes have never been about talent. Its about the underdog. Its about whole towns voting for the person they know!

I don't think this will be it for AI...this is how the show has always been...large fan bases calling for their favs. Can we all say Goatgirl from last year! Even Ruebans Mom said she voted 250 times for him on the last show. I vote for John Stevens and I vote more then once, right now that is what the show allows. Do I think John was horrible this week...yes! Do i think he will actually win the whole contest..no. I also placed votes for a few others.

BUT I also don't feel that ANY of this years singers are even close to what we had last year with the final 2.

I would not go out and buy a CD from any of them (ok maybe Jasmine). And I have bought Clays and Kelly Clarksons stuff.

I LIKED AMY FROM THE START. SHE HAD A GREAT VOICE AND I LOVED HER PERSONALITY. SO I AM VERY DISAPOINTED!! WE ALSO LOVE JASMINE SO WE WILL KEEP WATCHING ALTHOUGH AFTER LAST YEAR WITH CLAY NOT WINNING I SWORE I NEVER WOULD WATCH THIS SHOW AGAIN AND HERE WE ARE ADDICTED TO IT AS EVER!

My DS, DH and I vote every week! We pick a top 3 each and vote 1 time each for them. This coming week it will be pared down to our top 2 and then our top 1.

I was outraged yesterday at the bottom 3. I think this show is fixed. They want to add some drama to the show to get fans worked up. There is NO way in heck, that Latoya, Amy or Jennifer should of been in the bottom 3. I liked Amy. She sung waaaayyyy better than John Stevens, John Paul and Camille. John Steven definitely should've at least been in the bottom 3. I'm sorry, but he can not sing like Amy. He has no versatility. Only carry's one style. If he wins AI I will not watch this show anymore. That was ridiculous yesterday. You see how the camera was focusing on John's face the whole night. Something is fishy about that. I think the producers has something to do with the votes. There's no way he could've not been in the bottom 3. The voting may be fixed!!!

I think the show is not up to the "viewers". Last week was an outrage with Matt leaving & then this week it's Amy??? What gives???

It looks like they are trying to get people that "fit" thier apperance profile to be the A.I. I will not watch the rest of this season, because the only other person that I believe belongs there is George, but I'm sure he will be voted out next week!

Yes, I did vote, and I voted for Amy this week! Her number was busy almost the entire time the phone lines were open.

I voted once for George and once for Latoya. They are the only two I would even consider buying their albums when released.

If things don't change next week, though, I may stop watching. Last year was fun and there was so much lot of talent. This year has been painful, confusing and I'm NOT enjoying it at all. Not only that, with few exceptions (George & Amy), even the singers don't seem like they're having much fun!

Exactly! DH and I thought that too.

Latoya fans shouldn't be too worried. This exact same thing happened with Ruben last year. He was in the final 3 one week and, after that, he never dropped again. It was quite a wake-up call for his fans. (Personally - I was (and am) a Clay fan all they way.)

I agree with the prior posts, last night's result stunk!

I blame the judges for letting in such poor singers to begin with. Over 170,000 people auditioned, they should have picked better singers to begin with and then there would be less controversy. I bet everyone who has posted here knows someone who sings better than any of the 3 stinkoteers.

This is my first year watching AI and if this continues it will be my last. I am rooting for George and LaToya, but I could live with Jasmine, Diana, or even Fantasia. At least they can sing!

Yep, it was the judges that got this group through in the first place. I can only imagine the ones who are so much better sitting in their living rooms seething...

They keep telling them to step up... who is training them? When they make bad choices is there anyone who counsels them? I can't believe the same people from last year are allowing this show to go on as it is.

I said that during the prelims...that whoever their vocal coach was..was not getting it right. If they can't get the notes they should be told that they should try another song.

Radio this morning was talking with a very close friend of John S.who has been there in LA. He thinks they showed John alot because John and Amy got to be good friends and he was upset that she was gone. I think it's because Simon likes him.

I don't think the votes are fixed...the same things were said last year. We actually had no trouble getting through to anyones number last night for the whole 2 hours. My kids call for all their favorites and at no time did we get a busy signal.
