Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I was very surprised to see Jennifer in the bottom 3 tonight. I'm not a big fan of hers, but she was better then Camille. Next week is country???? THAT should be interesting...none of them, except maybe Matthew look or sound like they could sing a country song and carry it off.

I want to know why he kept "twirling" Paula's hair!!
I noticed that, too...kinda strange!

I knew Leah was going to leave tonight...she just wasn't anywhere near as good as the others. I was surprised to see Jennifer in the bottom 3...I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I thought a lot of other people were! I bet she won't be in the bottom 3 again next week, because her fans will see that she was this week and vote more.

Side note about Clay...I love him, but I definitely liked his "Solitaire" better last season than I did tonight! He was straying too much from the melody for me I think.

If you remember correctly, Kimberly Locke spent a LOT of time in the bottom 3 and ended up in the TOP 3 by the end. I guess there's still hope for Jennifer. Maybe because she reminds me of Kim Locke.... hmm... I love Clay, so he could have sang the ABCs and made me happy. ;) Can't wait till next week!!!!!!!

I was soo excited to see Clay again tonight and he did great!! I'm glad Leah's gone because she's the one person whose voice I couldn't stand. I wasn't really surprised to see Jennifer in the bottom 3 because she sings pretty much the same as Latoya and Fantasia, and all the people that like that style seem to like Latoya and Fantasia a lot more. I'm also not surprised that the 3 were all girls, which is what I was predicting, since all the guys seem to have strong fan bases. Now that Leah's gone it should be interesting to see who goes next.

Side note: It's also pretty coincidental that Leah sang the same exact song that got Vanessa booted off during the first round last season.

I had NOT realized that, ShuisFan...

Anyway, I'm so glad Leah's gone. I don't think they did a good thing for her putting her in the top 12. She seems very emotional and this might just devastate her. She was NOT up to par with the rest of them and it looks like her pushy stage mom is forcing her through. HOW did Paula get reeled into it I do not know.

I have to say Clay looked good last night. He looked heavier and that black suit looked so good on him. I turned to Survivor while he was singing because I am SOOOOO sick of him mainly because of this board. I realized I was taking it out on him and that wasn't fair. He's a true talent.... even though he DIDN'T WIN! :teeth:

Next week is COUNTRY???? Ugh... outside of Patsy Cline I can barely stand country. We'll see.

Wow, I thought that Clay did awesome last night! I was remarking to my husband that he can just stand at the microphone and sing- no dancing, waving his arms or such, and yet he has such presence and charisma that he could never be called boring. That is what sets him aside from so many other singers. Of course, he also has the voice to carry it off.
I think that having the bottom two sing was cruel and unusual punishment. "You know, you just might be the worst singer here tonight...how 'bout you sing a little song for everyone?" Ridiculous! Jennifer looked like she was P.O'd about it, and I can't blame her. I was very surprised to see her in the bottom three, I would have chosen Camille to go last night, followed by Leah and Matt. Oh, well. I can't wait to see what happens next week.

It will be really interesting to see/hear the "divas" and red-headed John sing country, LOL! They're obviously very talented, but this will surely be outside the comfort zone.

I am guessing that Jon Paul can pull it off and maybe even Matthew (although he's not my favorite).

I think Matthew will do fine with country (but I can't stand him and wish he would go home) and I think Diana can do great, she should do a Martina McBride or Trisha Yearwood song. Poor John though, I can't see him doing any country. Who knows though, we may be surprised. I really thought Matt would be in the bottom three, but my guess is he has tons of people calling from his college, past and present players I bet, and that will keep him there much longer than he should be. The same way the military thing kept Josh around much too long last season.

I think it's better that they make the bottom 2 sing before, than the one that gets booted sing after, while they are crying. That's what they did early in the second season, and I thought that was cruel. Hey, we don't want you here, but can you stop crying long enough to sing for us???

Didn't the person voted off last year have the option of whether or not to sing a "farewell" performance song? I think I recall a couple of those top 12 last year that opted to not perform on the week they were ousted. If I recall correctly, the 12 make that decision in advance in the event they are the booted contestant. I could be wrong though.

I want to know why he kept "twirling" Paula's hair!!:earseek:

I don't think it's Paula's hair, I think it was part of her top. It was black and Paula's hair is not black. But yes, I am wondering also why is Simon keeps playing with Paula's string.

My top favorite so far...Jasmine, LaToya, Fantasia (but I think LaToya is still better), and Diana.

I think they are keeping Jon (the red headed one) just cause he is different (he has this Sinatra voice).

Matthew...He needs to get off Simon!! I think he has a problem with Simon. Every each show, he always have something to say about Simon. He keeps doing that and he will get booted soon enough.

At first, I didn't care for Jasmine, but after hearing her sing "Inseprable"...I was like WOW!!!

I am very very surprised that Camille wasn't called to the bottom 3. You can't compare Jennifer to Camille. Camille's voice is nice but weak. But I must say though...Camille is a one HOT HOT CHICK!! :)

Next weeks is country....hmmmm. I don't know how well the Hawaiians will do next week. I can't see that country voice in them. Matt should do well. I think Diana can pull this one off without any problem. Jon (red) hmmmm...He really needs to broaden his horizon and try something funky. I don't care for Amy, she doesn't do nothing for me...like Randy say "I don't feel it Dawg!" Next will be interesting.

I missed it last night, so they booted off Leah?

I think that she was just nervous when she sang, but I guess that someone has to go. It's going to be hard to predict, they are all really good.:D

Hey, how about the group sing and dance? I think those things are fun. That Matt took such big steps--

I feel so bad for the kids as they do the elimination. It must be torture to sit then stand alone on stage as they wait.

I see there is an American Idol on tonight too--Its embarrassing auditions from the series--

:Pinkbounc :bounce: Leah's gone :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I was so HAPPY to see her get booted last night. Very surprised that Jennifer was in the bottom three. I was depressed to see Amy there.

I really like her spunk and humor. The pink hair "fits" her...it really does...imagine her with brown hair...blah!!

So next week is Country..hmm...I love Country..hope they don't mess it up.

Prediction:
1. Diana should do a Reba McEntire hit.
2. George can probably get away with a Ronnie Milsap tune
3. Amy should do a Faith Hill or Shania Twain hit..that will suit her.
4. Matt will pop out one of Garth Brook's hits.
5. JPL..he'll probably do a Tim McGraw or Kenny Chesney song...he might pull it off.
6. Poor John will be lost unless he does an Alan Jackson song.
7. Jasmine has the talent to do a Faith Hill or Martina McBride song.
8. I really think LaToya will be okay since she's been in a band and has probably sung a Country tune before.

That leaves Fantasia, Jennifer, Camille in the wind...don't know how they'll do.

Looking forward to next weeks show!!

Country music has a lot of ballads. I think everyone will be able to find something suitable. I'd like to hear Diana and Fantasia sing something a little slower so we can see their mellow side instead of their hyper side. Jon Peter can get away with some corny song but John will need to find something more meaningful. I'm looking forward to it. I wish every day was Tuesday:p

"Side note about Clay...I love him, but I definitely liked his "Solitaire" better last season than I did tonight! He was straying too much from the melody for me I think"

Last nights version was very chopped up due to time constraints. Solitaire on the single is beautiful !!!!

I can see the divas all fighting to the death over Faith Hill songs for next week. :p

I'd love to hear at least one of the ladies tackle a Patsy Cline song - Sweet Dreams comes to mind...

Matt and JPL will probably do well...

I can actually see John Stevens doing Garth Brooks - If Tomorrow Never Comes...

My roomie and I were not pleasant last night - we kept saying "Seeya, Leah!" ;)

I agree with most of you, jasmine is my pick so far, then diana, i think latoya is good but she is 25 and has a little too much confidence (imho) i really enjoy WATCHING jpl, but would i buy his cd???probably not...the contestants this year are so young, i'll feel bad for all of them when they get the boot. 1 complaint about this show is too many comercials, and ryan seacrest dragging it on and on...this show could be done just on tuesdays and forgetabout these wdnesday shows,,just show who gets eliminated next week at the very beginning and get on with it.

still love CLAY the best:hyper:

*LOL* Maybe they'll all sing the same song! Remember last year, when 2 of them sang the same song.

I remember them saying that a few weeks into the comp., they started "hiding" what they were singing & practicing "fake" songs so no other contestent would know *what* they'd be performing.

Leah was the right person to get the boot last night. :D So far, I like Jasmine, Fantasia, John S (because he's different) and JPL.

I wasn't surprised that Jennifer was in the bottom. She has a powerful voice, almost too powerful for "pop" music, if that makes any sense. Still, I thought Matt and Camille should have been in the bottom instead of Amy and Jennifer.

Leah deserved to go. She wasn't good at all. I was surprised to see Jennifer and Amy in the bottom three, since I expected it to be Matt and Camille.

Their group performance last night was amazing. I have always enjyeed watching them as a group.
