Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I got through about 12 times to vote for Diana, during a 45 minute period. It would have been more, if the circumstances would have been better. I had just found out during the show that my Grandmother has cancer, spread all over her body, and they can't do anything for it. So, I was crying throughout my 'call campaign'...:(
So sorry Disneyfan. I'll say a prayer for your grandmother and your family. Diana would be flattered.

Jasmine goes home--Thank goodness!!!!

Jasmine's a cute girl--she will be treated like a MAJOR star when she gets home--hopefully that will ease the pain. She has to be somewhat relieved, though.

COME ON DIANA!!

Watching tonight--I was reminded of the time I first realized that there was something annoying about the way Fantasia sings: it was her very first song: "Let's give em SHOMPIN' to talk about"
What on EARTH is a SHOMPIN

FINALLY!!!! SHE IS OOOOOOUUUUT!!

Jasmine will be a big star in Hawaii. She will be a local singer, which is not uncommon. I have a few local CD and they are pretty good singers! Did you guys notice when they were showing Jasmine coming home to Hawaii, there's this big sign that says "I got 5 cell phone." OR close to that. No wonder she made it last week.

I guess the ones who were voting for LaToya must have been voting for Fantasia and/or Diana

WHEEEEW!! I am so glad it is down to Fantasia and Diana. It is just too bad LaToya got booted last week, while it should have been Jazzy.

It doesn't matter which one wins... I like Fantasia and I like Diana just the same. They are both great singers.

I think that being THE AI is almost a moot point now. Diana and Fantasia will both find success no matter which of them is the actual Idol. So I guess I almost don't care which one wins. They can both carry a tune and interact with an audience.

It was sad to see Jasmine go, but she knew she was out and you could almost see the relief on her face that the cruel comments from Simon were over.

Did anyone notice that Jasmine has sung "Inseperable" 3 times on the show? AND only the first time was the best time? She's been pretty inconsistent, and it was obvious that she had to go, so thank goodness she's gone! But she will be a big star at home, and probably get a record deal anyways. If William Hung can, Jasmine can...

At this point, it doesn't matter to me who wins AI... Both Diana and Fantasia are worthy.

And I have to add that although Jasmine is not the best singer, she could be good at singing other things or doing other things that are more for her. And these days, you don't have to be an amazing singer to sell albums.... Ahem, Britney Spears and J.Lo, ahem! :p Not the best singers, but i still like them!

Someone mentioned this is the beginning and I just CRACKED UP! It's very common to slur that word in the blues and r&b, I grew up on that. This is why I like reading this board, there are so many different types of people here.

I still cannot believe the Snellville girl made it this far. I guess I will NEVER be able to watch our local FOX channel again... She did get better as she went along but I still don't think she's an "american idol", FAR from it. She sings fine but not unique or interesting AT ALL.

Last year's final two were incredible singers, this years don't even come close. Now I think it will come down to just how many Fantasia haters will make SURE she doesn't win.

Simon kept his comments tonight pretty nuetral--I wonder if he's been told to tone it down due to the reverse-voting result that was happening.
I've heard that they are going to do something to change the public's voting process for next round. If they don't, it could turn out to be a disaster, with voters going for the worst singer (hey--isn't there a show on Fox.....)

We watch, but only at commercial time of another show. It just didn't make it for us this time around.
:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I guess after some deep thinking, I'm actually starting to warm up to Fantasia. She's got star qualities and this is no doubt the path she was intended to take. In recent weeks she has really shown some sensitivity and vulnerability and that's a good thing.

But my mom is still a staunch Fantasia hater (using Robin's description;) ). She said she would LEARN how to power dial just to vote against her in the final.:p

I was happy with the results of the show last night. I like Jasmine, but agreed that it was her time to go. I think Fantasia will win, yet I like Diana better.

My biggest question is - will Fantasia get some serious dental work done if she becomes the AI? Her teeth are all different sizes.

I'll be voting for Diana. Everyone keeps mentiong unique and different. What was different about Ruben last year? He didn't have any thing different about him. He was a good singer..but there are alot of good singers. Clay was definately unique. They talk about Diana being a screamer. Kelly Clarkson screams through alot of her songs too.

It's sad to see that people hate Fantasia so much that they will make a concerted effort to make sure that she doesn't win.

Did anyone else notice what they're doing with the finale? Last year, they gave both Ruben AND Clay their own song. They said last night that there is only one song and they will both sing it and the winner will record it - like the first season.

I wonder why this is? Maybe they don't think they can market both of them the way they were able to with Clay and Ruben? I think they would be able to. I think they would appeal to different audiences - exactly like Ruben and Clay.

I don't know....they must have their own reasons. I like Diana....I voted for her a few times. I like Fantasia, but not as much. Just a personal preference, I guess. I don't dislike her, I just prefer Diana.

Who knows, maybe it will people who actually like Diana that make sure Fantasia doesn't win. I like both & think they differ greatly. Both ladies are quite talented. I, for one, am going to watch the finale & whoever performs the best on that night is who will get my vote.

Did you guys like Tamyra Gray's song?? I thought "Tears will Fall" (I think that's the name of it) was great. She sang it earlier this season & I think they said she wrote it. She is a great singer. She will probably end up having the longest career of any of these people. She obviously has writing talent!!

I know the first season, they were pretty sure that Kelly was going to win (her votes were so much higher than everyone elses) that the songs were written pretty much completely for her. I mean, "A Moment Like This" was definitely not a Justin Guarini song!!! Maybe since it was so close last year, they felt they should give both their own songs to make it fair. They probably knew, too, that both were going to have records out, so they might as well give them each their own song to start with. Who knows?? Maybe Tamyra's song is a good match for both.

I don't hate Fantasia...I just don't like her style of singing and I don't like her voice...I have never been a fan of that type of sound. But I don't hate her personally...that is such a strong word. I think she is very nice, I'm not one of the ones who feel she is a phony and camera hog. Why should I vote for her if I don't like how she sings. I like Diana...I have from day 1. Do I think she was the best? No....but my choices didn't get too far this year. So for me it is Diana.

Or maybe it's because we want to see Diana win because we feel she is the better (by far) singer.

I didn't see the results last night, but I take it the American voting public finally got it right? I'm happy with the two finalists. Its my opinion that Fantasia is miles ahead of Diana, Diana miles ahead of Jasmine. As long as it didn't come down to Jasmine and Diana, with Jasmine winning the whole thing, I'm o.k.

But I do think they should change it so its one vote per phone/computer. The simple reason that I watch but don't call in to vote is because I don't intend to sit in my living room speed dialing for hours. I want to make one call, get through, and have it count. Make it fair for these kids who are out there singing their hearts out and taking the criticism and rolling with the punches! I really think they all should be commended, so many of them so young. I just hate to see it be anything but fair.

Ruben and Clay both have powerful voices, but I never saw either of them "get down" with the audience. I think more pressure is on the women to interact. What's wrong with just singing. Tamayra just sang and she did it beautifully.
