Hello there,

I know this is not DVC related, but I need some help for my MIL. She has a timeshare (not DVC) that she needs to sell. She is not sure where to start. She said she contacted some selling places and they all wanted upfront money to list it, is this normal? How does she know who is legit, do you have any place we can look?

Thanks!!

Erika

She should not- under any circumstances- pay any fee up-front.

Have her call The Timeshare Store - our site sponsor- for assistance in listing her sale.

Good luck!

I'd second TUG and the no up front fee, EVER. As to selling it through a broker, it depends on the resorst and location. Just remember that many timeshares sell for a fraction of the original price. Many times this is pennies on the dollar. Most legitimate timeshare sales companies have a minimum fee, usually $800-1500 and frequently a percentage of 10-12%, whichever is more. Many times that's as much or nearly so as a timeshare is worth. My recommendations for a company or to sell privately would depend on their situation, price, resort and location. I'd be happy to offer any suggestions either here or by email if you desire. You can, and should, also post and search through TUG as a minimum to get additional info. Good luck.
