OK, I know this is off topic but I know my friends here on the cruise board will have an answer if there is one.

Does anyone know if you can purchase a copy of the movie "Song of the South"? I've never seen it available for purchase but I really want to own a copy.

Also, does anyone know if Alice in Wonderland or Dumbo are available on DVD?

Thanks all!

Zip-a-dee-doo-da, Zip-a-dee-ay!

Unfortunately, you can't by a copy of the Song of the South on VHS or DVD, it was never released in the United states. There was some debate surrounding it's content. I know there were versions of the film sold internationally throughout the 90's (mainly in PAL aka UK format), but it was officially pulled by Walt Disney Studios in December of 2001. There are no plans to re-release it anywhere.

Dumbo was recently (I think last year) re-released for its 60th anniversary, so you should be able to find a copy of it on VHS or DVD.

I remember seeing Alice in Wonderland in a Disney Store not too long ago, it's part of the Gold Collection and was rereleased in 2000, and as far as I know it is still available. Might have to go to a Best Buy, or larger DVD supplier.

Hope that helps.

You can pick up a PAL (European) version of Song of the South on eBay for around $100+, then have it converted for about $20.00. Not the cheapest movie around, that's for sure!

portable dvd player while sitting on deck 4 just relaxing

Just a heads up on that DVD/Video sale. It ended yesterday, late afternoon--so PLEASE don't head out to the Disney Store looking for $10 DVDs or Videos! I wouldn't want anyone disappointed.

I actually bought a copy of "SONG OF THE SOUTH" at an antique show at Shelter Cove mall in Hilton Head last year. I saw this movie as a child and rememberd very little of it exept for Uncle Remes telling the story of Brer rabbit and Brer Fox. I was thrilled to see it again and cried watching it. The man who sold me the copy had bought them overseas to sale in the USA. It was in English and he told me it was legal. The only reason I didn't hesitate to buy it was that he was set up at a booth in the mall with the rest of the antique dealers and he had the movie out for all to see. He also gave me his buisness card with his name and address and a money back guarantee.:D Anyway I was thrilled to finally own the Movie. I paid $25.00

I enjoyed this movie as a child too and remember very little of it as well. I would love for my children to see it as well.

I understand that it may not be "politically correct" but I hate censorship in any form. If it was good enough to put the song on a sing-a-long video we own and make splash mountain themed after it, they should sell the video/dvd.

Sonya Francisco,
I was also told by a CM at Port Orlean's Riverside ( formally know as Dixie Landings that the reason they changed the name was they had a lot of complaints about the name "DIXIE LANDINGS" being used in a southern setting. I live in SC so we just went through the whole Dixie Flag boycott issue. I didn't live during the times of the "OLD SOUTH" but we can't change history either for good or bad.

I went to the local Disney store and they were full price, I asked one of the workers how come they were on sale at other places and she said the sale was over. I said I thought it was Friday Saturday and Sunday and she said "no it was Thursday Friday and Saturday".... I looked at her and said "it IS Saturday" and she told me they ended the sale early but since I knew about it already they would honor the 10.00 price so I picked up 3 DVD's and used my Disney Club Card for an additional 10 percent off that!!

aprilgail2,

Oh aprilgail2, I'm crying over your "in memory of matt" toy drive website. What a special boy he must have been!

Thanks! He was a very special child and I miss him terribly. He was supposed to make the Disney Cruise with us in May but he passed away in April
