Ive already seen it in London. We went last weekend (I know excessive fan here!)..
I MUCH preferred it to Broadway.. I had got myself into a state when we saw in on Broadway.. and it couldnt possibly have lived up to my expectations.
However, the London production is pretty similar..
its GREAT to see Idina in the role of Elphaba. I originally saw Shoshana Bean who I enjoyed a lot, but its great to see Idina...
Helen Dallimore is a convincing Glinda, and this role is really played quite differently. Less "dizzy" and more upper class clueless if you know what I mean.. same with Fiyero (the GORGEOUS Adam Garcia looks good in those tight trousers! The Darncing through life took a little to get used to though!
Miriam Margoles was great as Morrible, although she doesnt sing a note.. more speaks the part and the wizard was admirably played by Nigel Planer.. who was pretty perfect in the part actually.
I understood the whole thing better actually... and the effects are superb! Defying Gravity seemed even more amazing than it had done on Broadway.
The whole set and costumes and everything is lush and fabulous. The dragon at the top of the stage is just AMAZING! Everything was better for me.. and the atmosphere was electric.
I am an avid musical theatre fan and singer myself and this is the first time Ive ever seen a show where I had leapt out of my seat in a standing ovation before I realised I had done it.....
It was overwhelmingly amazing..
and the Opening night is going to be INCREDIBLE!
I loved it loved it loved it!
