Which then is the best off site hotel to stay at with 2 small children? There are so many and it is so hard to decide. Will we miss out on all the magic if we stay off site

We have wonderful trips each time no matter where we stay! I don't think we miss out on any magic when offsite (just stayed at HOJO this week and had plenty of magic, even got dream lanyards and pins!) Our magic happens in the parks, not when we are sleeping.

That said, I do like to stay on property occassionally! And if I didn't go so often, I would most likely stay on property every time. I love the Grand Californian and I posted on your other post with some good rates for October.

When it's warm enough to swim, we stay at HOJO because that has the best off-site kids pool area hands down! We take a break when the hours are long, but depending when you go in Oct., the hours will most likely be 10-8 in which we usually don't waste park time to swim. Then again, I guess it would make a difference how many days you are there.

We also stay at the Desert Inn and Suites because of the great price and extra room/bathroom which helps with little ones!! It's clean and very close (as far as our DTD room was at the Grand) so it's easy for little ones too! But it's nothing fancy so not sure if that's what you want either.

You can stay off site and still enjoy the magic. Makes it easier if you give yourself 3 days. I hate to do it in less if I don't have to. We have stayed at the Fairfield and the Residence Inn on Clementine. They both have pros and cons.

We have stayed at the Candy Cane Inn the two times that we have gone to DL.
They have a great complimentary breakfast, the pool is small but they do have a kiddie pool as well.
The walk is the same as HOJO but they have a complimentary shuttle so that would work well with small children. (Our girls are older but we still used the shuttle on late nights when we were tired)

Our family went last Sept. and stayed at Candy Cane Inn for the first time. I really enjoyed it. Clean, cozy and close,...in my opinion. Our son was 16 months old [took our stroller] and my daughter turned 4 on our trip. We walked to and from our hotel--it was easy. One morning we took the shuttle but it was kind of crowded. After that walking was just better for us. The continental breakfast was great, it saved us money and time. And when the staff found out it was our daughter's birthday, we got a card and a bag of cookies. We said "thank you" to the front desk staff and they even gave my daughter a stuff animal from their gift shop. It was very sweet and it seemed like the Disney magic can be found at CCI as well.

Some say the rooms are too small but for us, we just slept there and took showers there...it was fine.

We have stayed at the Howard Johnson for our past two trips and enjoyed it. Disneyland is a quick walk right across the street. We almost felt like we were onsite because you can see the parks and fireworks from your hotel. I would tell you to definitely stay on site at Disney World but its more than fine at Disneyland offsite.

I "third" the vote for Candy Cane Inn. As was said, it has the 3 C's: clean, cozy and close. Their staff is wonderful, and some know more about Disney than CM's. Their free breakfast is really good with lots of choices.

Another vote for the 'cane. Can't beat it. Its not a big fancy hotel, but as the others have said- its clean and close, with a great breakfast and shuttle.

We have stayed at the Park Place Inn, right across the street. It was nice, basic but nice. This time we are staying at the Desert Inn and Suites, also right across the street. We have 2 kids and prefer a suite for convenience and space. They are very reasonably priced and have received good reviews on Tripadvisor.com.
