We are going to universal for the first time and are staying at the Hard rock Hotel. Can anyone tell me if there are any stores or cheap restaurants within walking distance as an alternative to dining in park the whole time?

Thanks

If that doesnt work, Kirkman Road,is littered with restaurants, stores and anything else you can think of.Its a short taxi ride to there and theres an outlet mall at the end of IDrive just past Bass Pro.Id consider Kirkman road walking distance. Its about a 20 minute or so walk depending on your speed.

Let me just remark that this is one of the things we LOVE about Universal vacations. You are not a hostage to the park food selections. Just outside the gate is CitiWalk where you have so many more varied, affordable options. Leaving Disney to eat, on the other hand, takes intricate planning, sucking up so much time that nobody bothers.

We stayed at the Hyatt Place on Major Blvd. (about a 1 or 2 mile walk to the parks) and there was a TGIFridays, Cracker Barrel, a Japanese Steak House, a sportsbar, some kind of buffet place (maybe Old Country or something like that) a Burger King or Wendys and a Carrabas within walking distance for us.

Sure...this is Orlando...tourist town USA. There are restaurants and shops everywhere.

The sports bar is the Orlando Ale House, and the buffet is Golden Corral.Theres a McDs up the road on Kirkman,I think its Vineland Road.NW corner.Theres a Hooters up the road from that also.

Thanks for the info. We're not renting a car and I was hoping there were places nearby. Sounds like theres plenty to choose from.
