Those of you who have stayed off site could you please pass along your recommendations on how you found your accomodations?

We are a family of 6, plus grandparents so will be 8 on this trip.
Going Feb 14th and looking for someplace that will be kid friendly. We will be going for a relaxing trip, a couple days at Disney, and visit family, and other sites in the area too.
Thank you for the help!

Depending upon how you want to do it, I know a lot of people who have rented a home in the area rather than going to an off-site hotel. The homes give you all the feeling/comfort of home, a private pool, driveway (some even with garages) and much more.

And the prices are not bad either, especially for the number of people you have going.

I did a lot of research before I chose our hotel for our last WDW trip. Reading the recommendations on tripadvisor.com and the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board on this site really helped me out a lot. The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World was also a big help for me. I finally decided on Comfort Suites Maingate East. You can read my review here:

A lot of other DISers have recommended the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort.

I hope this helps!

I am moving this to Orlando Hotels Forum . You will find lots of information on offsite locations there. :)

We have the same amount of people and we chose Floridays from Expedia. I did alot of research and it gets really good reviews.

It is a 3 bedroom villa, 2 bathrooms a kithen, living & deck area. Each room has it's own tv. It also has a fun water play area for the kids. The price was really reasonable on Expedia.:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

We stayed in Bahama bay this year and loved it! The rooms were huge and brand new, there was a large kitchen area and 3 huge bedrooms. The resort was fabulous and there were lots of pools etc around the resort. We booked through a UK tour operator but think the prices through expedia etc are very reasonable. There is loads of free easy parking (right outside your door) and you are only about 10 mins from Disney. Its in Kissimee (just off the 192).

sounds like you will have a rental car?

then anything.

do all 8 of you want be in the same room? then at least a 2-bedroom - sometimes a 3-bedroom - depends upon the resort.

www.skyauction.com - can work - if you only bid on what you want - and not go for the general stuff.

www.condodirect.com

both condodirect and skyauction work better for 7 days stays (week)

I would suggest Bonnet Creek Resort. It's a great resort ON Disney property.

You may be able to rent a house for $149 a night, but by the time they tack on taxes, cleaning fees (and you still have some housekeeping to do b4 checking out), pool heat, etc the price can very easily creep up there plus you need a car.

I had a nightmare situation with a rental home last Halloween for MNSSHP. The house was disgustingly dirty when we got there, the terms were changed the day I chekced in and what should have cost me $400 for three nights wind up costing me $800 because the owner was dishonest. I even put it on my Disney Visa card and disputed it with Chase with documentation and pictures. Chase didn't care or didn't look at my supporting documentation and let the charges and overcharges stand. I'm not saying all home owners are like that, but it does happen. Now I only book thru this one particular owner at Bonnet Creek.

You can check out their reviews at tripadvisor.com by searching for Bonnet Creek.

I'd honestly consider a condo or rental home for that many people. Most people, including myself, have had very good luck w/ them. For a larger group, the extra space and amenities come in handy.
