I have friends who want to come to Universal this summer. I recommended that they stay on-site but they were shocked at the prices of the hotels. They say that they don't care about the Universal express perk, but I am concerned about them being able to get to the parks without a car. What hotels are reasonable in price but offer a reliable shuttle to the parks? Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Shuttles are not reliable when it comes to offsite hotels. They run once and hour, are late, and packed with people. You can look here to see what's available within walking distance.

People don't have good things to say about the Holiday Inn. I'm staying at the Amerisuites on March 5th.

I recommend your friends rent the car.

Just a question about the amerisutes, that is where I am thinking about staying for our Oralndo vacation am I am looking fro any feedback on this hotel. Thank you.

The only off site near Universal that I can comment on is the Crowne Plaza Universal...loved this property! If I couldnt get on-site thats where I would stay. The staff was so friendly, the rooms large and clean. They had shuttle service but we grabbed a cab $5.00-7.00 each way. We only stayed one night.

They are looking at the Holiday Inn. Does anyone have any information on this hotel?

We were just there this past weekend and we stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel on Major Blvd. The hotel was wonderful and the service was outstanding. They did have a shuttle but we took our car. The Hotel was only a few minutes from the park though.

From Robvia's earlier post:

Run far away from the Holiday Inn on Major Blvd. Stayed there in 03 and left after we saw the room. SMELLED AND WAS VERY DIRTY. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for. Moved to the Radison on International Blvd and only paid a couple dollars more a night and had a fridge and microwave. The radison also offers free shuttle. Worked out great for us.
