We are going for nine nights and I want to stay at HRH for the FOTL access. But we have our family of four and my DDBF and there is NO WAY I am staying in a room with him Don't get me wrong he is a very nice person, but I don't want just anyone to see me in my pj's. And, quite honestly, I just spent 11 nights in one room at the CBR with my own family of four and by the end of the trip I needed ALONE time.

So anyway, I just can't bring myself to pay almost $3000 for the nine nights at HRH. So I was thinking of staying for two nights...getting three days of FOTL and then doing the other 7 nights in another hotel or condo type.

We will rent a car and plan on going to Seaworld, Aquatica, Wet and Wild, Busch Gardens, and one day to DHS.

I also posted this on the Universal board.....

Any other suggestions for good offsite hotels?

Based on my reading so far I'm going to check out Windsor Hill but I don't know how far away that is from Universal....

We are staying at Hyatt Place Universal Orlando. They have suites there. I got it through Priceline for $30 a night! The regular rates are $85 to $89 which isn't bad, but I saved over half off going though priceline.

From what I have read it is a pretty good deal. They have free wifi, 42" flat panel hdtv's, free breakfast, and a walking path over to US/IOA.

It was easy to figure out which hotel I was going to get from looking at www.betterbidding.com.

You might want to check out Vista Cay Resort--it is 3-4 miles from Universal, located on Universal Blvd. It is by the same contractor as Windsor Hills and has the 10,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse and loads of amenities. You can find condos and townhomes on www.vistacayrent.com, www.homeaway.com, and www.vrbo.com through personal owners. It is the only short term rental community in Orange County that is not a condo hotel.

We had relatives recently stay at Hyatt Place Universal Orlando, and they loved it. They liked the way the room looked and the proximity to Universal. In fact, they paid full price and they thought it was worth it.

we've done the same thing a couple of trips. we always stayed at the crowne plaza universal, it's 1mi straight south of uo on univ. blvd. i have always been fortunate enough to get a killer rate thru hotwire, you have to do some research on betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel.com. it's a very nice hotel--more business like than resort like--but very nice

I second the Hyatt, it's really nice and you can get a much cheaper price than retail.

Consider reserving a house or whatever hotel for the entire nine nights, but reserving the cheapest room you can find at a Universal hotel for one night to get two dayss FOTL. You don't have to stay there, and this can be the cheapest option for FOTL for five people. You can use the hotel to rest and change, or use the hotel pool, but don't spend the night if you don't want to. This can be the best $200 you ever spent depending on when you go.
