Off-Grounds Breakfast Suggestions

Hate to even suggest it, but DH likes the Waffle House. I'm just a trooper. I think it's on 535 before you go under I-4, but I could totally be making that up.

Now come on.... there's nothing wrong with a little scattered, smotherered, and covered! :rotfl2: All of the Waffle House fans will know what I'm talkin' about. :thumbsup2

Don't feel bad, my DW rolls her eyes when I suggest the WH on occasion.

Yes, sir. Another vote for the Waffle House here. DH and I enjoy it. We have only ever been to the one outside of DTD so we associate it with Disney. It's a tradition for us.

I've got to ask..... why the hatin' on the Waffle House? I've heard others (non-Dis) tease the WH before too. Am I missing a cultural reference here? Clue me in!

Bob Evans is close by on 192- kids meals are really really cheap and the food is great

I didn't know there were any Bob Evans restaurants south of Chattanooga. I thought they didn't want to build any restaurants more than a day's drive of the farm in Southern Ohio (to ensure fresh products).

To the OP...my daughter moved to Louisiana. Of all the things she misses, she misses breakfasts at Bob Evans. You'll like it.

We always go out to the us 192. within a mile of each other you have Perkins, Bob Evans, IHOP, Dennys, Golden Corral. And they are only a couple of miles outside WDW.

But they were burning waffles when we were there. Seriously.

I think for DH it's nostalgic. For me, it's meh. Glad we don't have them in Chicago, so it's okay to oblige him once in a while.

I'm falling off my chair right now over this because I vacillated mentioning WH until you guys stuck your heads out  . But O.K. O.K., I'm #4, raising my hand :rolleyes1 .

But we had an EXCELLENT "first day in Orlando" breakfast during our last trip in April. In fact, I was CRAVING their chocolate chip waffles just last week (had NEVER had chocolate chips waffles before...my kids have...just not ME) which caused my thoughts to drift back to our WONDERFUL Spring Break Trip @ WBC  .

Here in Baltimore, the words *Waffle House* usually garners a lip curl and an *eeewww* since they're known to be akin to dirty highway truck stops (not sayin' that's what they ARE...just *known* to be, around here  ).

We flew in late that night, missed the markets, so had no food in the suite that morning. We decide to venture out early, day 1, down the 535. Of ALL the restaurants we saw & passed, imagine my surprise when someone in our party suggested (then turned into) the WH (yes, the one near on 535 near the I-4 overpass). All I could do was give a sideways glance (yet said NOTHING because I was hungry as He!!), but I was actually curious and figured 'this is a *go with the flow* trip...eeehhhh, why not'.

Either we were all famished or the food was actually good, but all 7 of us ate like we'd been standed without a place to stay in a foreign country :rotfl: . Even my son, who is one of THE MOST pickiest (?) eaters, ate like there was no tomorrow that morning.

And we had the BEST waiter too. He was very quick, entertaining and friendly and kept the food coming as we ordered more & more :rotfl: . We all stood outside the restaurant after we finished and talked about how much we enjoyed our first meal in Orlando, and how shocking that it was at Waffle House! Then we took our butts to Publix.

Thin waffles...but they were GOOD! So were the potatoes with onions.

So I had to laugh when I saw y'alls posts.

In our family we affectionately call the Waffle House the "Awful House". :rotfl:

Honestly, we have no real frame of reference, having eaten in only one so many years ago we can't count. We enjoy inventive labeling. And we love to mispronounce words in public.......our own inside jokes.

Anyone old enough to remember Stuckey's??? Didn't eat there either. :thumbsup2
