So weird for me, but I've been "off" Disney and the DIS this past week. I haven't even listened to last week's Discussion or Email shows yet.
Last Monday after a week of just not feeling good, my dad went to the doctor, he'd been tired and just not himself and Sunday was having somewhat of a hard time breathing. The doctor did a chest x-ray that showed a large mass on his right lung. They admitted him to the hospital that day for tests, they did a couple tests and then seemed to just dwadle around while he was getting worse. I swear he aged 10 years in 2 days. They finally decided they wanted to do a new lung surgery, but had to move him to another hospital to do it (they didn't do the surgery at the the smaller hospital he was in) more dwadling around and waiting while my dad was having a harder and harder time breathing. Finally my sister, who is a nurse at a big hospital in Cleveland said "Enough" and rounded up a surgeon and a bed at her hospital and BOY was the other hospital mad, don't know why they cared, but I had to really step in, put my foot down and insist they transport him NOW....they actually tried to talk my mom out of this, saying the ambulance transport might cost $1,200.
Don't care I said, we are moving him out of here. Finally get him transported, he has the 4 hour surgery, where it is discovered he was bleeding internally because the 1st hospital nicked a vein when they inserted a needle into his back to drain some fluid from his lungs and a terrible infection that filled his lung with puss. We were told he probably wouldn't have made it to morning if they hadn't done the surgery when they did.
The whole experience has been scary and exhausting, but tonight my dad was finally moved out of the surgical ICU and into a regular room and is doing much better! He isn't out of the woods yet, but our worst fear (the large mass on the xray) seems to have just been from the infection and he is breathing on his own now and getting massive antibiotics that seem to be fighting the infection. I don't even want to think about what might have happened though if we hadn't been aggresive and insisted on moving him.
Anyway, it's nice to be able to relax a bit and enjoy the boards tonight....
I'd popped in a couple times for a distraction, but for the first time, couldn't concentrate on Disney and my happy place.
So, I have I missed anything good? (Aside from the gun thing) I'm curious to find out about Pete's holiday rituals or whatever that's all about.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to listen to last week's shows tomorrow.
Thanks for listening.
