Of your points, how much do you use at Disney, and how much do you use non disney?

To date, we have never used a single point outside of Disney. We have used them for the Disney Collection, and may use them for ABD at some point, but I still consider that Disney.

Never. We pay cash for our other vacations.

We aren't timeshare people. We are Disney people who happen to have a timeshare at Disney that enables us to vacation every other year at Disney in a situation where the family is not all crammed into one hotel room.

We've been in DVC going on 4 yrs. Have used our points for Hotel Del Coronado a concierage hotel(scheduled trip to CA for wedding) along with CA Disney. Since then once at RCI in Maine (we live in NY) and scheduled a return trip next summer already. Rest of the trips were WDW or Disney Hilton Head. We did rent in HH last summer because it was a heck of lot cheaper to rent then use our points. Don't join DVC if you think your going to use RCI easily, it's not, most of time it's not available and they'll wait list you but you take the chance of it never coming in, and it's expensive 270 points for a 2 BR. The easiest and cheapest is to use the points for WDW resorts in FL or CA. Even Disney's Hilton head is not worth using your points. From what I understand people sell their points at $10/point. So that gives you a cash value to work with, that's why we rented privately last summer at Hilton Head and saved 1/2 the value of points it would have taken. Just my opinion and experience.

We use our points at Disney only, it is the best use of the points. Better to rent points and pay for other trips, cheaper that way.

We use our points at Disney 100%. When we take other vacations, we pay cash. We bought our DVC points solely for the purpose of traveling to WDW and DLR.

100% DVC stays only here...WDW, HHI, VB, nothing else. We bought Wyndham on eBay for pennies on the dollar for other options.

We used points for the DCL once. All the rest were used for DVC villas.

Wouldn't think of using it anywhere else.

DVC members since '93 and loving it!!!!!

:santa: only had points since June 2009, according to DH we will only use points at Disney and only at AKV....I would like to try out the other DVC resorts at least, but DH seems to be a DCV AKV Purist.

We've been members for more than 13 years, and have only once used our points outside of Disney. That was for a Hawaii exchange 7 years ago.

Clark...good question. I am a "soon to be DVC member" as well. Passed ROFR and close next week. I see responses show that most folks are Disney use only and that RCI is often waitlisted/difficult to get/not best value of points. That's unfortunate, as I was looking forward to the flexibility to use points outside of Disney here and there. Anyone have information on the "process" to use RCI? DVC guide made it sound like it was easy, but I'm hearing differently here.

It was a lot easier when DVC traded through Interval International (II). RCI seems to be much more difficult to work with. Our Hawaii exchange was through II, and we were very happy with it. I don't personally know anyone who has traded out of DVC with RCI. I have heard of a lot of trades in though.
