Odds of Getting a Studio ANYWHERE at 3 months out?

My wife and I just became owners at VGF. We are hoping to take a 3 night trip for our anniversary in late June of this year somewhere and bank the rest of the points for a family trip in summer 2016.

I should be able to get into the system for the first time Saturday (supposedly our paperwork will be here today), but my question is, do we have any chance of finding a studio anywhere for 3 nights in late June for this summer? Forgive my naivety, but we are new to this.

Sounds like you're buying direct. Talk to your guide. He should be able to work some magic to make your first reservation.

Yes, we bought VGF direct. Can he work "magic" at another resort or does it have to be VGF? I will call regardless.

They can sometimes pull rooms from developer room inventory, if there are any available. I would not count on VGF.

Looking at the member website, for the week of June 21, the only resort with studios open for the whole week is Saratoga Springs. Same for the week of June 28.

we were able to get a 1bdr at BVC during F & G for 5 days at 3 months out

FWIW, 1BR often has better availability than studios.

But if you are willing to play "stalking the website" game you might luck into another resorts open studio. Wait listing might get you another choice, too.

(If you are going to try changing resorts, you may want to wait on banking your points incase your alternate studio requires more points than SSR)

Thanks for the advice all! Yeah, I am going to call our guide and if he cannot work something then we will probably bank all of our points to next year.

Is there a reason you would not want VGF? That is one of the tougher ones to get so if they can work some magic because you now own there I would go for it!

I agree with DougK, go for VGF! Heck, your guide could probably work out Poly for you if you're interested. SSR studio was open all of June when I looked 2 days ago.

We are trying to "bank" 95 of our 150 points for an 8 night summer 2016 Grand Floridian trip with the kids. Hoping to take a 3 night trip with just the wife for our anniversary in June this year. We'll see what he can do if anything. Only wanting to use 55 points and 3 nights at the GF will eat up at least 69 if not 81 for a studio.

Well, still super psyched. Was able to get BLT TP view for June 21,22,23 and GF studio for June 24. Ate up a few more points than I wanted (about 43 more) but her, we will just take a 6 night trip next summer instead. Thanks for the advice all!

Enjoy your anniversary trip! I am glad it worked out.

DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
At MK for the day in Feb ’14 for our anniversary, called MS @09:00, and booked a room at BLT for that night. Checked-in @11:00 and the room was ready. We did not plan on this day going like this until @05:00 while still in bed.

Yeah. We actually got a bit lucky. I called our guide and MS and tried to use our first booking "magic." After an hour on the phone, they found nothing but SSR...

DW and I took a few hours playing on the site last night and found the 3 day at BLT/1 night at GF combo open.

That being said, we also waitlisted the full time in a studio in both the GF and BWV to try and save a few points.

If you really want to save points, I would keep an eye out for availability at Old Key West. It is a lovely, relaxing resort, has large rooms, is a large enough resort to have lots of availability, and uses fewer points than most other resorts (except AKV value rooms which are difficult to get unless you own there). I really like taking the boat to DTD from there and the buses aren't bad at all to the parks from there.

Good points. This may make DW and I seem snobbish, but...we HATE busses. Probably has to do with the fact that we both teach and coach and have to drive/ride the dang things all the time.

GF/BLT/Poly/WLV/BWV/BCV give us the ability to get "almost" everywhere without touching a bus (we are not big Animal Kingdom fans) as we don't mind the walk through Epcot to get to the Hollywood Studios boats or to the monorail.

My guess is that if you call your guide and tell him/her that booking is tougher than you were lead to believe and that you are thinking of rescinding your purchase, magically they will find a room at a resort that you will like.

You spent premium money and you should expect premium service, at least from the marketing department.
