Odds of a Star Wars Land?

The more I think about it, the only thing that could rival Harry Potter at Universal - if Disney wanted to match/beat it - would be a Star Wars Land. There would be a HUGE market for this, and the return guests just coming back for this would be insane.

that would be cool especially since it could have thrill rides that people think disney lacks, but i doubt it will happen.

I just don't see disney focusing so much time and money into one franchise like that.

I don't believe Disney holds any of the rights to Star Wars either. They would be extremely expensive to get exclusively like Disney would want if they were going to build an entire area around it. I've read where they pay a significant amount just for the rights for the one ride they have. Based on this I think the odds for a new land they said it would be about 0.001%!

I don't see Disney ever building an entire "land" to a franchise it doesn't own. I also disagree with the statement that "the only thing that could rival Harry Potter at Universal - if Disney wanted to match/beat it - would be a Star Wars Land."

That said, I'd enjoy a Star Wars land... I just don't ever see it happening.

nope! however I could see Lucas building his own starwars land in CA. regardless DHS needs something. my thoughts put a new land of somesorts in the parking lot by Indy stunt show.

either Mavel, thrill area, Star wars ect.

Let me preface this post by stating that my family and I love WDW and have been going there at least three times a years since the kids were born. However, as pp stated, WDW lacks an area that caters to pre-teen boys. My oldest DS would love more RnR and EE type rides and has even started asking us to schedule some Universal trips. Disney really should commit to building either a 5th gate or a "land" in an existing park catering to boys. They could use the new Marvel acquisition, Star Wars, and other franchises that they control to build more roller-coastery, adventurous rides.

To be honest, I'm glad that they don't have anything specific to the 13-20 year old male crowd. That's the point in life when boys tend to become hooligans for lack of a better word.

The last thing Disney needs is a whole land/area dedicated to that demographic where they're all congregated, defacing property, harassing characters and other such things.

I'm sure your boys are angels and wouldn't do anything like that, but the rest of them will!

That being said, I would love to see more thrill ride / coaster type attractions, but just careful to scatter them around the parks than having them all in one area

Thats a horrible stereo-type. I would say AT LEAST 51% of boys 13-20 DON'T again DO NOT Deface property, or other such things.

Zero SW can't compete with Potter anyway SW is not as popular as it once was and HP is getting more popular.

I wish people would stop thinking like this there is no reason. Disney has chosen not to compete with HP and they most likely never will.

I think if they did a good expansion to Pixar Place, they would have their "Potter Swatter." Add a Monsters Inc. E-ticket ride (roller coaster/motion simulator/etc.) and do a clone of DCA's Radiator Springs Racers along with a couple of smaller attractions, a new restaurant and you have a seriously wow factor!

This is a great idea! I think Disney needs to add another land and focus on more thrill rides. Star Wars would be huge draw for Disney and compete well with Universal's Harry Potter. It would be a perfect fit at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I'm in "the 13-20 year old male crowd" and when I go to Disney I don't try to jump over contruction walls, pull Mickey's head off or try to jump off a log on Splash Mountain. Most people I know who are in "the 13-20 year old male crowd" might act a little hyper sometimes, but I don't see them trying to deface property. In fact the wildest people I know are in the "13-20 female crowd". Maybe they shouldn't do the Fantasyland Expansion. It might get wrecked by all those wild girls. But I really, really doubt it.

The article goes on to say,

"This year, the sci-fi evergreen will see the release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on high-definition Blu-ray, a relaunched Star Tours ride at Walt Disney theme parks, a new Hasbro take on the lightsaber and video games, such as Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

All this will lead up to the return of Star Wars to theaters in 2012 with the 3D release of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace."

I would say Star Wars is still VERY popular.
