Odds for booking Wilderness Lodge - Dec 2012 at 7 month window?

Hello all,

I am wondering what the odds are of getting a reservation at the Wilderness Lodge at the 7 month window for next December. I have heard from many that December is very difficult to get. We are only looking for 4 nights, and it would be the end of November, beginning of December (Thurs Nov 29 - Sun Dec 2.)

We are going to stay at Boardwalk for the rest of our stay, but after my wife and I visited VWL a few weeks ago she fell in love with the resort during the Christmas season. So, my plan is to try to book the first part of our trip there if at all possible. If 11 months out is my only way of getting in then I would consider renting points from a VWL owner or using one of the DVC vacation club rental companies, but I would prefer to use my points and book at 7 months out if it is at all possible.

Thanks!

I would recommend renting WVL points to guarantee your request and then finding someone to use your points. Hopefully, it will be a wash in terms of price.

To guarantee a reservation, book at your home resort at 11 mos, then try for that VWL ressie at 7 mos. Reports in the past couple yrs seem to be more favorable at getting VWL ressie at 7 mos, sometimes even less. Used to not be the case with this resort, but not the norm anymore.

2012 may be the last time we see early Dec with lower point requirements. Members may take advantage of this making next year even more difficult to book at 7 months.

If this is the case 2013 may be easier.

An interesting idea. I never thought of that. I do have a family member that may be interested in renting our points. I think we would lose $1-2 per point versus what it will cost me to rent, but it may be worth it. Years ago, they said they would give me $10-11 per point if we had enough left over for for a short stay.

If I don't rent, I will probably go that route. Our home resort is SSR, and everyone really liked it last time we stayed there. So the worse case scenario isn't so bad. We are already renting points from another DVC member for the last 5 days at Boardwalk, so even if we do have to stay at SSR, we would end our trip at Boardwalk, which is one of our favorites.

I was not aware of that. Is there going to be a new point reallocation? It does seem as though early December is very popular among DVC members.

It was announced at the Annual Meeting that some changes are coming to the 2013 points charts. I believe that some are speculating that it will be changes with that early December time!
