Oddest place you ever spent Christmas

In a hospital bed...giving birth! ;)

My daughter, who will be 10 in 5 days, was born on Christmas Day!!

My water broke at 7:46am. I showered, ate some cereal and had Christmas morning with my son who was 12 months, 18 days old (and who, frankly, didn't know the difference).

Got to the hospital about 10:30am and my daughter was born at 3:29pm.

I can honestly say the attention we got due to lack of activity in l&d was great. Incredibly wonderful experience! After they took her to the nursery for the bath and things, they returned her to us in a stocking. :)

I have also spent Christmas day in the labour room, but it was my sister giving birth. She went into labour on December 24th at 4:00 p.m., but my niece did not make her appearance until 26 hours later. My niece will be 11 on Christmas day. Ironically, my sister-in-law also gave birth on the exact same day in another city.

Another DISer who spent Christmas in the hospital as I had given birth on Christmas Eve 1983. I was doing last minute Christmas shopping when I went into labor. She was 2 weeks late. She was also put in a Christmas stocking and given to me that way. She still has the stocking and puts it up each year. She is now Mom to 4 babies of her own.

I actually wanted to name her Holly Noelle because of her Christmas time birthday but my ex nixed that.

Since we were flying back from our WDW vacation, we spent Christmas Day 2006 in three states (and three time zones). We had breakfast in Florida (at Pop), lunch in Texas and the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport, and dinner at my parent's house in California. We were pretty dang exhausted by the time 8:00 p.m. rolled around!

Add in another one for the hospital. Mom was in for 6 weeks from Thanksgiving to New Years when they first found out her cancer had spread. That one wasn't too bad. The cafeteria was good and there was free meals and parking that day.

A year or two after that it was in our cruddy local ER, again with Mom. That one was pretty bad. Getting woken up at 2am, 8 hours on a plastic chair with no doctor in sight, and not much help for Mom. Bad memories.

Hopefully this year we're all home and together!

Last year my Dh broke his hip in Utah and drove home to California, got home Christmas eve went to the hospital and on Christmas day they put in a steel rod and pins to fix the break. Hope this year we are at home.
