Oddest Christmas Gift Request?

I think I just got the oddest Christmas gift request I've ever had. :rotfl2:

My niece is 14 years younger than me--she's more like a sister to me. She's 28, is married and has 3 kids that I love to spoil. She recently became a SAHM over the summer and I know money's tight.

So, as I do every November at dd's b-day party, I pulled her aside and asked what everyone wanted for Christmas. After we had the kids sorted, I asked if she and her husband would like a check or a joint gift or what this year? She got all excited and told me, "I almost brought it with me." Huh?

Seems she has this huge pile of MENDING. The girl can't even sew a button on so her request for me is to ummm....do her mending for her. :rotfl2: Now, I've never had a mending PILE in my life (I take care of this stuff as it happens)--I can only imagine what's involved here. She's bringing it to Thanksgiving dinner so I can take it home and get started. :rotfl: Then she assured me that this is a joint gift for her and her husband. (I think he's been nagging her about doing this!) Oh, I love her so much, she ALWAYS keeps me amused.

So, what's your oddest Christmas gift/service request?

I'm not sure if this falls in the "odd gift" category, but I still find it very odd no matter how many years it happens.

For the past several years, we've drawn names between my mom & dad, sis & BIL, me & DH, and uncle and his girlfriend. My sister likes to take charge of it and tell everyone what to buy for everybody else. She's so whacked! She'll go around and figure out what name everybody has by process of elimination and then tell each person what to buy. I usually ignore her, but it's still funny because she'll spend a lot of time going over it.

That is too cute about your niece though.

My neice told me she wants a plastic toaster. She wants to make "pretend" toast because her mother won't let her use the real toaster. :goodvibes

One year my Dad asked me fora picture of a motorcycle that he had just bought. Easy enough, I'll just take a picture. Nope, he wanted a picture from the brochure. He was so in love with this motorcycle that he wanted to be able to look at it all the time. He actually wanted me to print the picture off my computer & frame it for him. I did. He kept that motorcycle for almost a full year before trading it in for another! :rotfl:

A few years ago my late MIL opened a present from one of her single sons and promptly stated "Why would you get me this, I would never wear something like this". It was a jeweled watch.

The reason it was so funny is because MIL had picked out that watch and asked the store to hold it for her and if any of her kids came in (very small town) to tell them that was what she wanted. Soooo, even though she requested it, evidently it wasn't something she wanted :rotfl:

My MIL has asked for a door this year. They have a door in their garage to the inside of the house. But it doesnt have a window - so she wants a door with a window for Christmas.

My DS has asked for a new trombone for Christmas. He is in the college marching band and there is the possibility that he may have to go to Hawaii on Christmas eve for one of the bowl games with the football team. He would love a new instrument to go with him, he said.

I ordered it this morning.

You are a very generous Mom! I'm sure he will get a lot of use out of it.

Victoria's Secret has some beautiful new styles for the holiday season!!!!

Me and my sibs once bought my mother a set of stoneware dishes that she specifically picked out for herself. :confused3

DD 14 asked for an Elmo bra from Kohls. It's actually kind of cute. I was thikning of getting the cookie monster bra for myself, than we can both be cool together! :teeth:

:rotfl2: If she's like dd was at that age, she wants to be just like Mom.

I'm thinking the Elmo bra that MagicalMom's dd wants would be the perfect thing!

I'm also thinking I might add that to MY Christmas list. :rotfl: I can just imagine dh's face..."An Elmo bra? How romantic!"

The Elmo bra is actually an adults size. :rotfl: Now where is that adult's size Minnie Mouse bra??? :rotfl:

Not really a strange gift request, but a little weird in how she does it. For the past few years, my mom has been buying her own Christmas gifts. She buys something, brings it home, shows my dad and tells him thats her christmas present from him. He says OK because she won't tell him anything else she wants. LOL. This weekend, we went to the mall and she found a business suit for a conference for work in February. She brought it home and told my dad that that is what he got her for christmas. It is now hanging in their closet waiting for Christmas so that he can wrap it and she can open it on Christmas morning. LOL

You know, my niece's two yo dd (my great niece? grandniece?--whatever she is) is in love with "Mo-Mo" as she calls Elmo. I can only imagine how quick that kid would have my shirt pulled up in front of everyone if she thought I was wearing a Mo-Mo bra!

Come to think of it, it's probably on HER Christmas list.

A friend once said she needed pest control services but couldn't afford it. I got her a gift cert and she went crazy!

Well a few years ago, I asked for a Swiffer Wet Jet and I got it! MIL thought it was really odd, but for one thing I am terrible with thinking of gifts for myself and they always want a list, and for another, DH was unemployed, money was very tight and it was one of those things that was a nice to have, but not a need. I already had a mop afterall.

Another year, DH really wanted an electric fondue pot. I told SIL and MIL that and they ended up giving ME one!! What is up with that? He's the one who wanted it but apparently you don't give appliances to men.

Hey, I did that with a Pal Mickey when the outlet store was clearancing them. Ordered one and it when it came I was so excited! Told DH come look at my Christmas present. It is now hiding in my closet with the rest of the gifts. :Pinkbounc
