Oddest Christmas Gift Request?

One of the oddest moments came several years back when my grandma got confused. :confused3 She had a sister named Barbara whom everyone called Bob. I knew her as Aunt Bob. My dad is also a Bob. Grandma got my Aunt Bob some ruby earrings and then gave them to my dad to open on Christmas morning. He was so embarassed. As for the original question, the weirdest gift request was from my cousin who told me that she would not accept gift certificates as gifts because they didn't come from the heart. :smooth: She was a cheeky 12 year old at the time, but I still think about that everytime I shop for her.

Not really a strange gift request, but a little weird in how she does it. For the past few years, my mom has been buying her own Christmas gifts. She buys something, brings it home, shows my dad and tells him thats her christmas present from him. He says OK because she won't tell him anything else she wants. LOL. This weekend, we went to the mall and she found a business suit for a conference for work in February. She brought it home and told my dad that that is what he got her for christmas. It is now hanging in their closet waiting for Christmas so that he can wrap it and she can open it on Christmas morning. LOL

My DH would kill me if I ever did anything like that! He takes great pride in picking out something really special for me and getting something he'll know I love.

I don't know how he'll beat last year's Christmas gift. He bought me a cage and a book and a gift certificate so I could pick out my own cockatiel. He said I had to finish the book first and I spent all day Christmas day reading that book! :rotfl: Had my bird on the 26th!

Aww...that's so sweet, Marseeya. What a great guy to put so much thought into your gift.

While I'm not shy about telling DH WHEN I want gifts and I even give him a wide and varied list so he can pick things out, I think it would take all the fun out of the holiday to know what I was getting by purchasing it myself. I love to be surprised.

When I was pregnant with dd, the dr gave us the option of knowing the sex but I didn't want to know. One of my sisters got really annoyed with me about that and said snarkily, "Well, you're also the one that would never peek at Christmas gifts and would tell on the rest of us if we tried." :teeth:

My SIL is an odd duck. Once she and my brother had children she would tell you exactly what to buy for the kids. If you deviated from the list she got nasty and would immediately ask for the receipt so she could return it. Finally after a couple of years of not getting exactly what she wanted for the kids she started buying everything and when someone would ask what do the kids want she would look at her inventory and tell you what was left and you were supposed to buy it from her. :confused3 I just started giving cash.

My MIL has asked for a door this year. They have a door in their garage to the inside of the house. But it doesnt have a window - so she wants a door with a window for Christmas.
Sorry to go off topic, but around here that is against the fire code. You are not allowed to have windows. Just thought you may want to know that before buying one.

She makes you buy the gifts from HER? Wow. I don't blame you for just giving cash.

Yes. She will go out and buy everything that she wants the kids to get then she expects you to buy them from her. Told you she was an odd duck.

You know, Jennifer, I'm thinking that maybe I might ask her for the receipts. What if she got it on sale and then tried to charge full price? :rotfl: Someone like that might be using all of you to finance Christmas every year!

That was another reason I decided to start giving cash. I'm pretty sure she did that a lot. I'm sure she made out like a bandit for at least the first few Christmases that she did it, until most of us caught on. She's a nut.

When my nephew Phil was around 5 or 6 he only wanted frankenstien stuff from Santa. SIL and I had a heck of a time finding frankenstien items. Thank goodness at the time by stupid luck I found a Frankenstien game and doll at Toyworks. Never saw the game again, Never even saw it advertised. Needless to say he loved it and talked about how great Santa is to get him whe wanted. How or why he picked Frankenstien I have no idea still.:confused3
