Oddball things that are strangely expensive now

cat food too. i just looked at my purchase history on chewy-wet and dry food both increased over 30% in cost over the past few years.
We ended up switching our cats to less expensive wet and dry food because with the cost increase it was getting a little out of hand. Turns out the one that prefers the dry food prefers the cheaper one and is doing better on it (he has a sensitive stomach) and the one that prefers wet food doesn't seem to care about the type (as long we don't have the audacity to buy pate...god forbid LOL).

Haha - my cat hates the pate type too - only the saucy or gravy ones for her!

Our Dollar Store sells the movie theatre candy much cheaper. You might check those stores out!
Yeah I usually hit up Five Below for candy but for some reason I didn't this time. When I saw Inside Out 2 with my friend, we went to both Five Below and Dollar General for our candy + drinks haul.

Name-brand cereal! OMG.
Living now in Germany when I first moved I would buy stuff like Captain Crunch, Lucky Charms ( which was ironic as as an adult living in the US I no longer ate that sugar crap) as I had a homesick urge for that taste again to bring back home to Germany.. At one point and this was before Covid and the "Inflation" talk. I notice it was just crazy expensive.. like 7 dollars a box.. no way.. I no longer buy that stuff.

Travel sized items. I was going to buy hairspray for an upcoming trip. The price was 2 for $8 ON SALE! What????? 😠

I have noticed that it seems that any "store brand" version of salad dressing costs at least $2. In like 2020, it could be found easily under $1, often like $.79. Also, bagged salad as more than doubled in price at many stores.

Not sure if you have an Aldi near you, but I get all my dressing there. Their normal kind is usually under $1. The "fancy stuff" in the glass jar that I cannot get enough of is about 2.29. I get the ranch and italian there for the under $1 and then my fancy garlic stuff I stock up on since it is seasonal, ha!

For me - hmmm. I think Tahini is the most recent thing I gasped at the price. Used to buy it for about $7 and now it is $11. But my normal every day things are still pretty much what they always have been.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but chicken wings were free from the butcher!!!
50 years ago I remember chicken wings being dirt cheap, like 10 cents per pound and supermarkets still couldn’t sell many.

We used to use them as bait when going crabbing.

But the popularity of sports bars caused the price to skyrocket. Sometimes they’re more expensive than skinless boneless chicken breast.

It was similar for flank and skirt steak. Those used to be somewhat undesirable cuts and were priced accordingly.
