We're headed to Disney in about 2 weeks. For months and months, I have been drooling at the thought of the cheese plate from Boulangerie. I recently found out I'm pregnant, though, and can't eat unpasteurized cheeses. Does anyone know if the cheeses at Boulangerie are pasteurized?

I don't know if it is, but I know that they're fantastic about letting you know what you can and can't eat.

I was in an almost identical situation. I started planning our Sept/Oct 2007 trip in early 2006. We left on Sept 29, and on Sept 16 I was shocked to find out that I was pregnant. Not just a little pregnant, like 8 weeks!

I made notes of my restrictions on my ADR's and the chefs at every restaurant were fantastic coming out and walking me through any menu questions I had.

Congratulations!! pixiedust: and have a magical trip.

Well, since you made me wonder too...I Googled it. Technically...

The United States Department of Agriculture regulations bar the importation of cheese made from unpasteurized milk, and that has been aged less than 60 days.

There was surprising amount online about the pros and cons of this rule. I would think that you'd be fine then. Of course use your judgement or ask to be safe:)

The cheeses I've had in the France pavilion are not authentic French cheeses, they are American versions.

Sadly, we can't get the really yummy French cheeses here!:sad1:

I'm pregnant, too, and what I've read on-line agrees with the PP about U.S. regulations. Cheese sold in the U.S. must be pasteurized. I don't think you have anything to worry about!

Have a great trip!

I'm in your same boat. We've been planning this trip (along the lines of a 'once in a lifetime' thing) for 4 years. Just before Christmas, we found out that I'm pregnant. It's a total shock, happened despite preventative medicines, and am due 5 days after I take the bar exam this summer. To say I was stunned and terrified is an understatement!

Anyhow, I checked with my doc, and he's actually more concerned about eating deli meats. As far as cheeses go, his only caution was to be sure that I was eating cheese from a reputable source. IE, a classy restaurant with good ratings from the local health boards.

In light of our disney trip, he's okayed me to eat the cheese plates at the restaurants, and really only cautioned me to be certain that all unpeeled fruits I eat are well washed (a woman from the practice recently got listeria from an apple!).

Enjoy your trip, and may you have a trouble free pregnancy!
