Odd items You'd suggest to pack

Baby powder-bring it in a zip lock bag. We didn't and oh what a mess!

Ditto on the stain wipes. I take them everywhere anyway. Last year on the cruise, my niece was covered in ketchup. She was wearing a white t-shirt. It came out.

Ditto on the allergy medicine. With the air conditioning and different enviornments, you never know when you might need this. My nephew ran me out of this last year.

By the way, my sister was not prepared at all as you can see. They all laughed at my tip list until they needed something. LOL

I must add the labels to my list!!

Think about packing a backpack (or using one as part of your carry on luggage). We found this to be VERY useful when departing the ship to go to the beach or on the excursions. We were able to pack reading materials, sunscreen and a couple of bottles of water and just take it with us easily.

Nice to meet you, TarraLee! I think you will fall in love with DCL! The New Year's cruise 04/05 will be our 4th, both total and with DCL. Let me know if you'd like to chat outside of the boards. I can give you my e-mail address and/or phone #.

As for the corkscrew, here's what we encountered on out last cruise. We put in our checked luggage both a small pocket knife with corkscrew, and a Leatherman. The Leatherman was missing after we got onboard. And we are both positive that we packed it. Why would the airline take one and not the other?

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

Lets see... Zip Loc bags (all sizes), small nightlite, plastic wire ties (to close up the luggage) air freshener spray, duct tape, cause you never know.

Good luck and have a great cruise!

Two more ideas:
Water-proof fanny packs to hold your i.d., money & Credit cards during your excursions. That way, you're not leaving anything valuable on the beach.

I make up tip envelopes in advance with a card with our name and address & message thanking the servers, etc for their service. I put the standard amount in them, plus a few extra dollars....but I don't seal them...if someone goes above and beyond, I want to add more.

I always bring a drop cord because my hair dryer plug does not fit in the plug-in provided (they are position so low that I need to turn the plug upside down- only when I do the large prong is on the wrong side).
Hair dryer
sewing kit
medicine kit
corkscrew
clothes pins
solid air freshener for baths
Lysol spray
Zip Lock bags in various sizes
Make-up mirror if in a cat 3 (this is not needed if the bath is the split like in a 6)
Extra Cable ties & don't forget to pack in an outside pocket the clippers to remove them

Remember to pack any sharp objects in your checked luggage. I like to use pocket folders by Eagle Creek to pack clothes in and ziplock style bags with the shoes going in on top but also in bags. I did buy garment bags named Wally Bags and these worked great for our dress up clothes and I put these in our larger size suit case.

The old tip of laying out what you think you will need then only packing half of it is so true. Our last DCL cruise I recorded what we actually had dirty when we came home--we only wore half of what I packed! Now I refuse to do laundry because I am also on vacation so I pack extra but if you don't mind doing emergency laundry then follow the take only half of what you think you will need tip. Also packing dress clothes that can wrinkle in Dry Cleaning bags first. That also works.
