We are visiting DW in Oct 4-11 for the first time with our kids, and our first visit using DVC. Is this a good time as for temperature, and crowds? We have 3 kids 8, 3, and 11 months at time of visit.

We have gone the last two years in October and the weather has been great. We will be going again this year Oct 11-18th, just missing you.

It can get cool but both years we've gone it was in the 80's. Did have a light jacket at night one night.

Have a great trip.

When we went it was actually very warm in the 90s during the day and in the high 70s in the evening. But I have heard it get cool during that time too. Just watch the forecast before you go. Either way it will be a lot of fun.

We went in October last year and were unlucky. It rained almost every day (and I mean rained!!). It was still warm though - 84F on Saturday and we seemed to have the whole of Typhoon Lagoon to ourselves.

It hasn't put us off, we're going again this October.

We went last year Oct 24-Nov4. It rained a lot in the beginning of our trip but it was ok.

I think crowd level should be great!!!f We are going Oct 5th...see you there;)

Remember Oct. is hurricane season. I just hope the 2008 hurricane season is a mild one as we will be making the trip home in Sept-Oct. Probably not a bad idea to research what your family might want to do in case there is rain. IE: disney quest - which is in doors, or some other in door activity. Better to have an idea just in case.

October is our favorite time to go! We Joined DVC in November of 2003 after our October 2003 trip to Wilderness Lodge.

1. Weather has been fantastic for us. It has been in the 90's, and never below low 70's during the days. Just our personal experience. In reading all the Disney Guidebooks, it does list October as the end of Hurricane season, but if it has been due to luck, we have always had amazing weather

2. Crowds have been very manageable. We never wait long for the rides, and if you use fastpass, it is usually within the next hour or two at the most.

3. Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT - This is an absolute blast. All the different countries have food for sample (a couple bucks) and different wines and beers. A great way to try a lot of new foods. Everyone says to avoid the weekends because this attracts a bigger crowd (locals) during the weekends. But - we have never had an issue

4. Golf / Outdoor Activities I am a golfer, and this is a great time to go as well. The weather is like Summer for me (Upstate NY), so I bring my golf clubs and try to get out a few times. There are not many people on the course. Also, if you are a golf fan - there is a PGA Tour Stop at WDW every October. With the lower crowds, this is an even better time to explore all the other offerings at Disney : Golf, Horseback Riding, Boating, Fishing, Nature Trails.

Absolutely our favorite time of year at Disney. We have gone in Jan, Feb, May, Sept and October. We went to WDW a few times prior to joining DVC, usually in Sept or Oct because we figured with schools just getting back, fewer people would be taking their kids out.

We've had mixed results--last year unseasonably cold to weirdly warm. Crowds were fine though.

eporter66,
Thanks for your post. We just joined DVC last week and are looking at making an October trip next year. We are also interested in May. Since you are a fellow NY upstater I can really relate to your opinion. (We're from Niskayuna.) We're lookiing forward to many happy and amazing DVC vacations.

we visited 1st week of oct last year (& will again this year:woohoo: ), mostly for the F&WF.
weather was nice, warm, but not hot, & not an unreasonaable amount of rain (we've given up trying to forecast based on the entire "hurricane season" thing, btw ~ during trips in march, april, may, june, august, sept, oct, & early november, the weather has been almost identical, extremes being a june trip with daily, mostly heavy rain, & an oct trip that temps went into the low 30's :confused3 ).
for oct, we pack clothes based on temps in the low 80's, with a sweater/sweatshirt for chillier eves. poncho or rainjacket is an absolute (the only guarantee being that it will rain if you don't have one;) ).
we found the parks especially crowded on the weekends (a quick visit to EPCOT on a saturday late afternoon led to an even quicker exit :scared1: lol)...the other parks were also crowded but not to the extent of the F&WF host. we wound up relaxing at the resort, outlet shopping, etc on the weekends to avoid the masses (literally wall-to-wall ppl at times).
just stay flexible, & alter your plans based on crowd levels, weather, etc, & you'll have a great time:thumbsup2

I am sure you will. We began going in the fall because with most kids in school we figured the crowds would be light. That has always been our experience, we have never had an issue with wait times for rides during October. I guess it depends on what you are used to, but we love this time to go.

We went the past Feb, and again the crowds were very light - we walked on many big attractions (Space Mountain, TOT, Haunted Mansion), but we also had some very cool/cold weather. We went from 80's to high 50's during our trip. The October weather for us has been very consistent.

Also - Since we have gone quite often since joining DVC, we do not rush around and try to do everything since we know we will be coming back.

We went last year Last week of Oct and it rained most days. Still had fun but we were wet.

We will be going again 12th thru the 18th. Love MNSSHP!! and Food and Wine Fest.

Hey we're there Oct 5th too! See you there!

We really enjoyed October at Disney, but we encountered love bugs at the beginning of October, so DD sprayed every bug she encountered with Deep-Woods Off! She used the whole can in one week, but it kept her out of trouble.:rotfl:
