Well we just got back from our "minnie get away" and of course are throwing around the idea of another trip this October. We would go Sept 29 - Oct 5.What are the crowds like that close to Columbus weekend??I see that Value rates are over for that time .Is this because it's busy??We would be leaving WDW the Wed going into Columbus weekend. We aren't worried about the heat as much ,we have been in Sept and Aug.

Any info greatly appreciated:earsgirl:

Heidi ~ I hope you don't mind me posting here too. I'm also going to be in WDW September 29th - October 8th and am very curious about crowds as well. Anyone out there been during this time?

let me add to the group please
i'm going that week also 9/30-10-8 and would like to know about the crowds?

September is typically one of the slower months. Crowds do start to pick-up in October, and with the extension of the Food and Wine Festival this year (I believe it now starts on 10/1), I expect you would see moderate crowds. Probably lines in the 15-20 minute range.

Columbus Day doesn't have a HUGE impact on attendance, although it may spike a bit over the 3-day weekend.

The weather is still likely to be hot and humid. Not as bad as the summer months, but temps in the 90s are certainly realistic.

Last time we visited in late-September (2002), our biggest beef was with the precipitation. We had a half-day of rain for the first four days of our trip. Every one of those days it was raining by 4pm, and it kept coming on into the night. Fortunately we had a washer & dryer in our room. We were out of dry clothes by the second day.

Others will tell you that the September rains aren't that bad, so perhaps we just hit a rotten week. That period does fall within hurricane season. The rain we experienced was a direct result of a hurricane that cut up into the Gulf. So, just consider yourself forewarned.

what date is Columbus day?

This year, it falls on October 11 ... which is also the same day as Canadian Thanksgiving!

HTH :p

We were there last October, the week of Columbus Day. Crowds were very manageable for the majority of our trip, with the exception of our MGM day. For some reason, it was really crowded that day but we were still able to see everything we wanted to see. There were a lot of posts here on the DIS about crowds that week. If you do a search for "Columbus" in the subject line, you should find other posts from last year. If I remember correctly, I think most people thought it was slightly more crowded than usual, but not terribly so.

And yes, we are also thinking about a return trip this October! I'm trying to persuade my sister to take advantage of the Canadian Thanksgiving for a vacation and bring her two boys with her--they're in Toronto. They haven't been to WDW ever. It's about time. :)
