I posted on another thread that I have been training on my own all summer, and am excited to be back (crazy to think that I was essentially in the land of no internet access...).

I am doing Twin Cities Marathon on October 7:woohoo: , and am wondering if anybody else is doing a marathon around then that would want to share support, stories, laughs:laughing: , kudos, etc. during these last two months? Kind of just some people to group up and be the swift kick in the pants :cool1: for each other as we run on down the homestretch toward the race and encounter all that goes along with it.

Heaven knows it would be nice, as I mentioned in my other posts -- having someone to be accountable to and to talk to sometimes makes all the difference!

Is Sept. 29th close enough to October? DH and I are running the Akron Marathon. Training this summer has been brutal--I did 16 miles last week on a combo of an indoor track (144 laps) and the treadmill. And there is no relief in sight from the heat--at least for this week. this week is a stepdown week for us--I think 12, but then it's the dreaded 18 and then 20. I sure hope the heat breaks by then, I don't want to be inside any longer.

Stephen and I are running the Columbus marathon on 10/21 (happy 7th anniversary to us  ), so we aren't feeling the crunch of super high mileage yet. Although this Wednesday I have a 7 miler planned which is the most mileage I've run on a "short" run, so that sounds like fun. Only 8 weeks until the taper begins!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) :woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon on 10/28:cheer2: . Looking forward to the cooler temps for some awesome fall LR's. Glad to see some other WISH'ers have fall marathons in their plans.

Hey, I was thinking of doing Columbus. Can you recommend a place to stay? (Preferably not too expensive, but safe.)

I am on board for my first marathon on September 30th in Toronto! Training has been tough with the hot weather, but I got in 15 miles on Saturday. I am hoping for some more nice days for my LR's!

Oh AWESOME! So good to see you all!

Indoor training... It is what it is. I'm not sure if I would have chosen the track or the treadmill, but 144 laps?!?! Holy cow. I live in a small town and have found a one mile path that I can take. Today I'm doing 17 miles, and I just plan to go back and forth 9 times. I'm sure the neighbors will think I'm nuts, but it's the easiest way. I usually go to other places around the Twin Cities to do my long workouts.

Let's keep looking forward to fall color runs, cool temps, and all that stuff.

Is anybody else on this trek alone? I've been doing all my runs, long and short, by myself, and I'm starting to go bonkers!

Wendy--Here are the hotels for the Columbus marathon. Not sure where we'll stay, probably the Hampton Inn as Stephen is a Hilton Honors member and Hampton is owned by Hilton. I don't really know about any of the hotels as we live about an hour and a half from Columbus, so when we go up, we rarely stay the night.

Hotels
The first four hotels are sponsor hotels.
Columbus Renaissance — two blocks from the start, about five blocks to the finish. (614-228-5050)
Crowne Plaza Hotel — less than two blocks from the finish, about five to the start. (614-461-4100)
Hyatt Regency Columbus — two blocks from finish, four from start. (614-463-1234)
Hyatt on Capitol Square — one block from start line, just about seven blocks to finish. (614-228-1234)
Hampton Inn — four blocks to the start and three blocks to the finish. (614-559-2000)
Drury Inn & Suites — three blocks to the finish and four blocks to the start. (614-221-7008)
Sheraton Suites Columbus — is about 15 miles from race start and finish. (614-436-0004)
The Blackwell — located on the Fisher College of Business campus of Ohio State University - is 4.5 miles away from the finish line and a little over five miles from start.
The Lofts Hotel — less than two blocks from finish, about five to start. (614-461-2663)
Westin Columbus — four blocks to starting line... just over a mile to finish. (614-228-3800)
Best Western Columbus North — about 10 miles from race start and finish. (614-888-8230)
Courtyard by Marriott Columbus Worthington — About 14 miles north of start and finish. (614-228-3200)
Courtyard By Marriott — about three blocks from the start and finish (614-228-3200)
Red Roof Inn — about two blocks from the finish, and five to the start (614-224-6539)

Sorry for hijacking the thread!!!!!

I'll be doing the Twin Cities next year ('08). I am especially exited about it since it is sponsored by Medtronics, the company that makes the spinal cord stimulator I will have by then. Tell me all about it after you run!

I am training somewhat alone as well. DH and I are going to run the event together, but b/c of the kiddos we have to switch off LR days. The last marathon I trained for I had a partner, and it was really nice to have someone to talk to for the 3hrs or so we were out on the trail. I am getting really lonely, and I think it's affecting my drive to get out there. I'm just dreading the 18 and 20 milers by myself. I am going to see if my dad will join me for part of the runs on his bike--at least so he can switch out my water bottle.

Hey there I am doing my very first 1/2 on Sept 30th.

I am terrified but I was also scared of the Minnie and I did OK so I know I will be ok on Sept 30th also. DH and I kinda train together, we do most of our walks together but he does like to jog as well so I just send if off and I turn up my MP3....all is good!!!!!

Good luck to everyone!!!!

Kim

I just finished 17 miles by myself. Uff-da, these days are tough!

plutosmyfav -- we'll have to meet up next year and do this thing! How exciting, a DISer coming to Minnesota!

The idea of having someone bike along is a good one. My boyfriend sometimes brings me goodies while I run (water, grapes, etc.), and I feel so lucky to have someone who cares about how I'm doing reaching my goals. I just wish I had someone reaching my goals with me.

Has anyone here ever done a running club in the real world? I'm thinking about joining one, but am afraid to show up. I guess showing up is always half the battle...

I must sound like the ultimate whiner. I'm a really good cheerleader, though, if anyone wants to buddy up for these last couple months!
