October-Hurricanes?

What with the new dining plan and some super cheap airfares, I am soooo tempted to book another short trip to Disney! I can get round-trip from Detroit for under $150 bucks thru October. But the Disney dining plan is only thru the first part of October, and that is still hurricane season! Am I nuts not to go for it? Is anyone else debating this? Are you stuck with your plane ticket if your destination is under a hurricane watch? What do you think?

Yes, it is still hurricane season. Chances are slim that Disney will be hit. Last year was the first that the Orlando area had really ever been hit. If a hurricane were to hit, the airports close. You will either be stuck in Disney or not able to get there. Once opened, you will be able to take the next flight out. I wouldn't worry. I would go... well this is a Floridian speaking & I live with the hurricanes. Other than the chance of hurricanes, October is a decent month to go. Not too hot & humid, less crowded than the summer months & some areas are decorated for Halloween.

We went last year on the 5+2 deal they were running, and our arrival date was scheduled to be the same day that Hurricane Jeanne came through. We went down a day early, spent one day in our room, and went on with our vacation as planned. I would do it again, IF I was flying. I wouldn't want to take the risk of being caught in it on the road, but it didn't bother us. One day of our vacation we had to stay in our room, but we slept most of the day (me, DH, DS3 and DS 15 months) and got rested up for the rest of our trip.

We were flying Delta, and they let us change our tickets the day before we left and I don't think we were charged a fee.

Hurricane season runs till the end of Nov. It could happen but Disney takes good care of their guests so I say come on down.
