October car rental rates!!!

I'm getting worried. I need to rent a car for October 8 thru the 15. We are driving from Orlando to Sarasota for the week after disney, so we want to return it to the airport.

Who is getting GREAT rates on SUV's or Minivans? We have 3 adults and a child with about 5 large suitcases and 4 carry on sized duffel bags. (ok so i know, lots o luggage but were gone for 16 days)

I rented a midsized SUV for 260.00 thru thrifty (its a jeep cherokee) tax included or Chevy Uplander (what is that?) from Alamo for 330.00. We will refuse extra insurance as we have full coverage on ours plus were using american express.

The difference is thrifty we have to go to the airport to pick up and Disney express wont take us since were not flying out that day( which i find unfair, we used it coming in...duh) and alamo we can pick up on property and leave at the airport. So with taxi and trouble, probably worth the difference.

I'd like to get this price down. Anyone getting much better offers?? Pretty please wont you share them!!

Try Budget. I generally get good rates with them. Our 9 day trip in a midsize is $177 complete with taxes and fees.

I just got a minivan at Dollar using Kiss2. I got it for Oct 13-21, 8 days. It was a total of 242.68. It was better using Kiss2 this time than last. Last week it was 350 total using Kiss2. It is 158.99 for the week and then add on taxes.

I lucked out and rented a mini two months ago for $190 a week through Thriftys. The price is now double that. Best advise is search, search, search. Also check Costco.com under travel, they usually have good rates and codes.

Merilyn, WOW Thank you. I saw your post for the Dollar Kiss2 promo and tried it and was able to save an additional $40 off of my rental over Thirfty. The rate I got for a mini is $158 a week. So over 10 days and three hours I saved an additional $40.00.
thats what I meant about search, search, search. Always check rates right up until you leave. Now if I can just get a Ding rate from SWA.

does dollar have a shuttle? Is it closer to go to the holiday in on international drive from disney rather than the airport? Remember were not renting for the disney trip, but rather to leave disney to go to the coast. I'd like to pick up closer to disney and return it to mco. Thanks!

ok, yes they have a shuttle.

And darnit the Kiss2 promotion wont work. I called and they said its not good till Oct 15. Not sure how those of you got it that are renting earlier, other than most of your trip is after the 15. darnit!

hygienejean: try typing in the code OCVB and choose the type of car you're looking for. It came up to $172 for your dates after taxes for an economy. There are several other codes to try if these don't work. Hope this helps.

yeah that code seems to be the best so far, but still sucks.

Using that code i got a minivan for 15 days for 410.00 total for dollar. It DOESNT work every day in October tho, its being iffy. However i did find a deal on orbitz for 225.00 for for 7 days (thru thrifty), i'm not sure i have tons of faith in orbitz, never used them.

nurseypoo5 - we'll be in the world @ the same time .

I booked Alamo & Nat. in the spring & kept tinkering...both still around $170 for mid-size QS & EA 8 days. Booked Alamo w/WM code & Nat. w/entertainment.

Based on past experience (hope trend holds) new rate codes/specials should come out mid Sept. for our dates, you can always adjust ressie/rebook if you don't pre-pay.
BTW, we had a mid-size SUV for 8 days late June this year for less than $120, wouldn't that be nice to see.

same thing for me. It did work if i rented as early as sept 30th and i think it was good on the 2nd or the 1rst cant remember, but the rest of our date "no cars available"...

OOOOhhh I just got a great rate for my dates! I got 388.44 for a minivan for 8 nights!

Try Alamo and use this code ORLESS )put it in the first box...there is 3 of them!

I am picking up and dropping off at the Dolphin! We will take ME and zip right to the BWV's and the husband's will just walk over to the Dolphin to pick up the minivans....

most of those were either expired or wont work for the 2nd week in october. Could be a black out day with presidents day, but i doubt it. They wouldnt work on first weekeither, or were still almost 300 for 7 day rental. thanks anyway

I Know with the KISS2 code it is only available for a certain amount of vehicles per day. If you are getting the code "no cars available"then there are no more vehicles left for those dates unde that rate code. Make sure you are putting the code in the right box. You have to go under the specials tab and then the promo code box appears, Unlike the corporate code on the first page. Put in KISS2 in the promo code box and try. I am unsure why Dollar told you the code is only good after Oct. 15 as I booked my van for Oct. 14th, keep trying.

From the reservation confirmation I got back, Dollar is inside the MCO parking garage so there is no shuttle unlike Thirfty.
