October availability and crowds...

I would love some feedback.

I want to go to AKL in the next few months. I can hardly wait to go! I have a savannah view room booked for 3 nights the second week of November. After booking, I realized this is Super Soap weekend (not something I'll be participating in) and I already knew this was toward the end of Food & Wine (somewhat interested in this - especially for my dad; I'm surprising my parents with this trip). Might get more crowded than I was expecting...

When I've checked avail. online for the dates of my current reservation, there have been sav view rooms avail., also sometimes water view...today I started looking at other dates and for nearly every weekend in both Sept. and Oct., AKL has standrd, water/pool, savannah view and deluxe sav. views available - this is EVERY weekend! All other resorts I checked in WDW for these dates - with the exception of WL which is sold out for several weekends - have avail. in ALL room types!! If FTP was such a success and no AP rates are coming out for Sept. and prob. October, what is the deal? Now I want to switch to mid-Oct. when DD has a long weekend from school and would get me there sooner!
Any thoughts? Thank you!

Yah, I was kind of perplexed by that myself.

Everyone is projecting giant crowds for october and it does seem like a LOT of people here are going in October, BUT, the Resorts still have lots of availability, and I can't believe that the hotels outside Disney will be full.

I am almost wondering if a lot of people arent going in October because of the FTP and it might make crowds low.......just us FTP people.

Boy I wish I had a Crystal ball!

Freshtessa, don't count on it. (Only FTP folks going). This is one of the best times to go and each year it gets more and more crowded. Not just out of towners, but locals. With the MNSSHP and Food and Wine, the parks are packed, now throw in the FTP and wow, I don't know what to expect. This is also a busy time for Disney Store CMs. As the holiday season approaches, they are faced with black out times, so many of my CM friends flock to the "mother ship" for that last trip for the year. CM discounted rooms are all pretty much booked up for most of October now and there are many other guests waiting in the wings for the last minute discounted room. While the parks won't be packed anything like the summer, spring break, or winter holidays, they also will not be light. Expect a moderate crowd. I sure would love to see a few e-ticket nights this fall. Unfortunately MK closes so dag gone early in the fall. Can't explain why availability is showing, other than they do overbook their rooms. I found that out 2 weeks ago when I checked into my resort, only to be told that they moved me because they overbooked....but that is a long sad story used on another thread.

Around the 20th of October is the golf classis at WDW...summer like crowds. We made the mistake of going at that time once...will never do it again.

November is a great time to go..I would leave your plans as is.

Super Soaps attendees don't really affect anything...except MGM crowds on that day. Takes forever to get in...but most the people are standing in line to meet the soap stars..not at the rides. So that really isn't a problem.

Just because a resort has rooms available on-line doesn't mean that they're not busy. The AKL has approx. 1300 rooms, so even if they have 65 rooms available - and show up on-line as available - the AKL would have a 95% occupancy rate. You can't make any assumptions based solely on a room-type being available on-line; it could be the last room of that type.

We've been the last 2 Octobers during the golf tournaments and never experience crowds. Comapring it to our May trips it is deserted! We never stood in line for anything and only fastpassed once for the Pooh ride. October is our all time favorite time to go and we are going again this year. It is still in the 80s and hot enough to swim. It is also our third MNSSHP. I don't think there will be any crowds here this year either as I highly doubt the FTP has added too many people. Go and have a great time!

The thing to remember when you are dealing with the 'events' like SuperSoap Weekend and the golf tournament, is that most of the people who flock to wdw for these events go to the event and not necessarily the parks (or the other parks).

We were down for SuperSoap weekend two years ago and even though MGM was crowded, everyone was there for the Soap stars and you could pretty much walk onto the rides. The rest of the week the crowds were very thin.

And are going in mid Oct. I fully expect to see larger crowds than the last time we went in Oct, but not as bad as in the summer. I found March (we've been a lot in March)a little more crowded than Oct, but not by leaps and bounds. Maybe this Oct will be like Spring Break time. I could live with that. I hope it isn't worse because I am bringing DD1, and would like her to have less wait times for the rides. We will have a great time no matter what! We have several PS and will do a lot of stopping to "smell the roses" with her. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

This is a very stupid question: Aren't most of the people who are in thre golf playoffs playing golf or watching golf during the daylight, is it just evening that is crowded??
