October 7, 2012 - California Dreamin' Coastal Cruise

Late booking here. My wife (camonkeygirl) found out that in order to qualify for the military discount, the actual military member has to travel. I'll be in the cabin with her, Taaren and Sam...

Thanks for the feedback on the Crowne Plaza shuttle. I'm thinking we may just go ahead and park at the port if we're being charged for parking anyway. it will probably make it a little easier.

I'm a little bummed. We had planned on staying at Disneyland 3 nights after the cruise but we decided it was just going to be a little too costly, plus we have some members in our party who have to go back to work, so I cancelled my reservation. I hate the feeling of being so close to Disneyland and not going there though, so now we're thinking maybe we'll just buy twilight tickets for the night before the cruise, just so we can go to Carsland for a few hours. I'm trying to decide if that's even going to be worth it though. That weekend is GayDays and I'm sure by the time we get in the park all the fastpasses for Radiator Springs racers will be gone. Anyone have any idea what the standby lines would be like at that point in the day and how bad the crowds would be?

Good morning ,The Radiator Springs fastpasses are usually all gone by 9:00am. We got to the park at 7:30 and I stood in line for the fastpass for about 30 mins. Our time to come back was 4-5. When we came back to do the ride someone asked one of the cast mambers about anymore fast passes. she said no they were all gone by 9 o'clock this moring. As far as I know , there are no "twightlight" passes.

Looking forward to coming down to the San Diego port and welcoming the ship here.

Deb - according to the GayDays website, Saturday's activities are focused in Disneyland and not California Adventure, so maybe it won't be too bad...we are doing both parks that day...but starting in CA to get fastpasses....

That would be very very strange if they did that. Part of the excitement of fireworks at sea is that there's no other light pollution, so the fireworks seem brighter by comparison (just like stars when you get farther from metropolitan areas are more apparent).

They often shoot fire works off in the Bay and you can see them fine. But what seems strange is that there is no All Aboard time for day 3 so I was thinking they would not move the ship until it leaves on day 4. Maybe no fireworks with this Pirate Deck Party :sad2:

Don't say that! If there are no fireworks I would be beyond upset.

Hi all,

Late booking due to the crazy low rates!

Me (39.9), DH (38), DD (4), DS (2) and DH's grandparents (both 91).

We've cruised with them before. They are so classy! I love them!

Welcome aboard! Are you on our Facebook page?

The Schedule of speakers is up! We didn't get John Lasseter.

Do we have to sign up ahead of time? Is there anything we have to sign up for ahead of time or first day on the ship? Cooking demos? This is our first cruise and don't want to miss anything. How does this work?

On the first day you would need to sign up for any of the tastings (beer, wine, tequila etc for a nominal charge), tea with Alice (if offered). Both of these would be at guest services.

You could also try and get a Palo ressie or do any spa bookings.

I am thinking that the special talks will be in the Walt Disney theater on the sea days so no reservation needed.

The demos like towel folding, origami etc do not require a reservation.

Thanks, Val. I printed out a copy for us and one for our friends who are sailing on the 23rd.

Hope you are doing well. I almost never go over the e-mail address I setup for our other cruise so just read about your eye issues. Hope all is better soon. Is Doug still coming with you on this trip?

We just got back last week from the New York/Canada cruise. It was very nice. Bob went for his bi-annual check-up with his cardiologist this afternoon and one of his pacemaker wires has broken and is shorting out. Hope we can get it fixed before the trip.

Are you spending time at DL before or after the cruise? Are you staying at a DL resort hotel? If so, do you have annual passes?

Hope to see you soon.

Val & Bob

Hi, Val,
I just sent you a private message regarding all of this. Forgot to say that, yes, we have the Premier pass good in CA and FL.

Hey Gang-

If anyone is still looking for a Palo brunch, I JUST booked one for the second at-sea day of the cruise. There's only one time available, but at least it gets our foot in the door!

Good luck to everyone who tries!

And according to the itinerary on the DCL website, the 'Pirate Party' is still scheduled for Tuesday night, the night we're in San Francisco!

Gotta love it!!

You must have gotten one that some just cancelled, that's great! We're still on the hunt for a Palo brunch, really hoping there'll still be some spots left when we get on the ship! :scared1: (We booked late, about 60 days from sailing, so Palo brunches were gone by then, and we got a late check in time.)

Oh that's great!! None left now though!!! :-(. Oh well - hopefully when we get on board there will be spaces left!!!

Interesting thing I just noticed re the Pirate party - we are doing the Chinatown at night tour from the ship that night. When we booked the timings were to begin the tour at 645pm and finish at 945pm. Now the tour starts at 615pm and finishes at 915pm, getting us back in time for the Pirate party!!! So reading between those lines it does look like the Pirate party IS on the SF night??!! Who knows - I guess they can change their minds any time!!!

last night, at about 10:00, I was dozing on the couch when I was awoken by a ships horn. While it is not unusual for us to hear ship horns from the bay, this horn was sounding "when you wish upon a star". I got shivers and a big smile. But then I thought maybe I was dreaming so I called into Bob, "are you playing an old cruise video". Nope - I hadn't realized the Wonder was here. To bad I was hearing it from my living room and not a cabin onboard. But only a few more weeks and we will be.
