October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

I'm so jealous of your long weekend, we do not have a long weekend in Canada this week (though we did last week for Victoria Day) and I have been working all weekend. :scared1:

We are almost at the 5 month mark for the cruise  I can't wait until we are finally on vacation :cloud9: My DH and I have not had a vacation since our wedding last August and subsequent 3 weeks in WDW. This trip to DL and the cruise will be our first vacation since our honeymoon!

My parents are flying across the country next weekend to come see me graduate :flower3: (I'm having too much fun with smilies now! :rolleyes1)

Hey all,
we were booked on the 10/16 MR but are thinking of jumping to this because they just announced KSF on 10/30 cruises. If you booked I'd rebook with the KFO code NOW! best of luck - hope to see you onboard

Kids Sail Free? Oh man.. I wonder if that means our cruise is under sold.. Maybe when more people book we'll get bumped a category or two? Is Disney prone to do that for early bookers? I'm not familiar with this aspect of cruising..

Welcome! Hope you decide to join us. This has been a pretty quiet thread but everyone is very friendly.

I have noticed that all categories are still available for this cruise but the price hasn't dropped. This is the first discount they have offerred.

Our cabin is aft on 6. I think doing the FE, regardless of how many of us is fine with us. Val

Hey, I am still here, too! LOL, I haven't been getting update emails for this thread and I've been busy with life, but we're still going. I need to get through the rest of these posts (there's lots now!) and see who else is on.

We too are on 6, more aft :)

Speaking of Kids Sail Free, I just rebooked my cabins, went up one cat, got slightly larger verandahs, and saved about $1000 in the process. Can't argue with that :) I am sure the cruise is underbooked since people are scared of Mexico :/

Thanks!! If anyone needs Disneyland & area info, I'm local & have been an annual passholder for years. I know we're going to probably be staying at the Double Tree in San Pedro on the 29th. Anyone else?

We need to book our hotels. We have air arranged but DH is putzing on the hotel for some reason. What else is around there besides the Double Tree?

I asked Jordak, who has created a lot of the magnet and shirt designs you see on cruises, to create one for our cruise. Here is what he came up with. I think it is great.

Love the one with the brighter ghosts!

I am still planning on doing the FE. I have mine almost finished, but I need to figure out what to get for gifts. It doesn't look like there are very many of us participating at this point but that just means we can get nicer stuff for everyone for the same amount of $ LOL

I was thinking the same! I ordered my FE off of eBay as I am less than crafty! When I get it in the mail. I hope! (Canada Post is threatening to strike :scared)

Besides Disneyland, anyone know what is there to do in the area with an 11 yo and a 9 yo? My sons will be going to WDW the week before the cruise with their grandparents and I think doing DL and the cruise will be Mickey overkill, not to mention the cost factor.

I know the San Diego Wildlife Park is around, but what else? I've never been to California. We're coming in on Friday night so we have all day Saturday to do stuff. We will have a rental car.

TIA!

The Aquarium of the Pacific is in Long Beach & is a place to visit. Touch tanks & lots of learning to be had. Right near the water with a clean area of town to visit just outside. That's what I'd recommend :thumbsup2

What are your boys interested in? Since you have a car and a day, you can pick from a lot of things. There are the parks, Universal, Lego Land and a few others you could do. Also, Hollywood and the whole LA area, maybe even a show taping. The La Brea Tar Pits are a big hit with some boys and it is in downtown LA.

HI all, I have 2 more people for the group! My boyfriend (29) and I (31) will be sailing on the Oct 30th cruise and we are so excited!

I am new to the DIS boards but I kept hearing about them on the MCFL and MFL groups. I never looked too far into it until I read a trip report that talked about DIS meet ups during their cruise, and I knew we had to be part of it!

We are down to participate and help plan anything anyone wants to organize. I know someone mentioned shirts... how much does Vista Print make them for? I might be able to organize shirts to be made for a comparable or cheaper price.

And can someone please tell me what a FE is????

So excited :)
Molly

That is unless somebody has already planned to do the shirts, I am totally not trying to step on any toes...

Welcome! I'm Stefanie, my fiance Vince & I will be celebrating our honeymoon on the Oct. 30th cruise! Everyone on this board has been really relaxed & easy going & so much fun to get to know. I'm sure they'll introduce themselves to you real soon.

FE stands for Fish Extender. A Fish Extender is a bit of cloth with pockets on it to hold goodies, notes or whatever you want. I don't have a link or photo of one as this is our first cruise as guests (I am a former crew member on the Disney Magic). They are totally fun to see all around the ship. As a crew member we'd vote on our favorite doors each week & sometimes slip them a little surprise.

Can't wait to get to know more about you two! BTW, I live in Southern CA too! I'm in the Inland Empire.

So I have spent the morning at work researching FEs and I am sooooo excited to start making one!!

We live in the San Fernando Valley. Brett works in heating and air conditioning and I am a personal assistant :) We met in high school but only started dating a year and a half ago :) I am a devout Disney fan and Brett has become equally involved since we started dating. We have annual passes to Disneyland and we went to Disney World last year. This is our first cruise though, and we can't wait! We aren't really sure what to expect but I have been counting down the days in anticipation (143 days from today, in case anyone is wondering)!

I am so glad to have found this group and I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone and putting some faces to some names :)

Molly, Welcome, glad you and your sweetie are joining us.

Thanks for offerring to organize shirts for us. I had used Vista Prints in the past but have no strong attachment to them or anyone else. I posted the artwork, mine and Jordak's, for anyone you might want to use them. If you need access to the Flicker site they reside on let me know.

Bob and I got back last night from a short, 4 day trip to Las Vegas. We were celebrating his birthday and our anniversary. It was pleasant, it had been a number of years since we had been there. We saw Penn & Teller and the Cirque de Soleil Beatles Love show. Came home with a cold and not much else.

A few questions about the shirts.
1. I saw the pictures that you posted, is there a favorite of the group?
2. ANy preference on t-shirt color? I saw gray, any other suggestions?
3. How many people are planning to purchase a shirt?

I have had t-shirts made for a couple events before (bachelorette, etc) and the guy I use is pretty good and more than reasonably priced. I think what I am going to do is give him a sample design (I think the one of the boat with the ghosts coming off the top was talked about a lot?) and ask him what the quote would be for gray shirts for everyone on the list, so we can get an idea of the price. Then I will get back to the group and see what everyone thinks. I will have them printed closer to the cruise date so we can get a more accurate count, and I will bring them with me to the cruise so everyone can pick them up when we meet.

How does that sound?

Happy birthday Bob and happy anniversary to you both! I am glad you enjoyed yourselves! I am from the LA area so we go to Vegas pretty frequently. Yesterday we actually booked a stay there for the weekend on July 15-17. We are staying at the Golden Nugget (we love classic Vegas!) and we are planning to see Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian - so excited! How was Penn & Teller? Cirque de Soleil?
