Someone on the 10/22 cruise was upgraded from an 8 to a 5 ! Keep your fingers crossed kids our assigmnets maybe a commin soon! :cool1:

Well I haven't posted in a while but life sure has been busy. After we got back from Disney in August we had the cough cold that I am just getting over. I went to Italy on business last Saturday and was supposed to come back on October 7th. But then Hurricane Rita came along and on Wednesday was supposed to take a direct hit on Katy after it came ashore. Wednesday was nuts trying to figure out what to do. Finally my wife and kids along with a neighbor decided to head out at 4:00 AM to go to Austin to my parents house. I bought tickets to Houston and Dallas incase they cancelled the flights to Houston. I ended up going to Dallas because I was afraid I would get stuck at the airport in Houston. I made it to after 24 hours of travelling. My wife with the kids and neighbor made it to Austin after a 9 1/2 hour trip. It usually only takes 3 hours. When I talked to her from the airport in London, she had only made it 15 miles and burned 1/4 tank of gas in 1 hour. I was very worried. When I landed in Dallas I was thrilled to hear they had made it. It turns out that if you were lucking it was taking 11 hours to Austin and 16 hours to Dallas or San Antonio. I-35 from Waco to Dallas was packed and barely moving. I was glad I flew to Dallas and drove opposite everyone. Now we just have to wait for the hurricane to pass. They are now predicting it will hit further east. That is good for us since we will now only have winds of 75 MPH or so. When I left Italy I was figuring we wouldn't have a house in 72 hours if it was hit with 120+ MPH winds :earseek: . Needless to say we would have missed the cruise, but that was the least of my worries.

Take Care Kurt!!

My friend lives on Berthea in Houston and went to her parents in Spring...i just talked to her and she is "hunkered down!" lol..she left and got lucky taking back roads to get to Spring.
I am starting to worry about gas shortages..i hope the storm dies out some!

Kurt & Family...

Be safe and hopefully your home will be fine.....we're crossing our fingers for everyone out there in Texas! :wizard: pixie dust comin'

Beano...

That sounded like a challenge to me! :rotfl2: Knowing you, you probably would be able to catch me! :rotfl:

Hugs,

RonnieJo :flower:

:wave2: Hey all!

Have not checked the survivor board. Sounds like a couple of people did really well. 70 points sounds like alot. :confused3

Kurt: Stay safe. Our friends in Seabrook had to evacuate too. We have not been able to get in touch with them. Our prayers go out to all y'all. :grouphug:

Betsey: have fun shopping in Tampa

Luckey: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the upgrades to come through. I know they say "book the room you will be happy in, upgrades are not guaranteed" but how cool would that be!! :wizard:

Have a great Friday!

Kurt--stay safe. Glad you and your family made it okay to Austin. Looks like trying to get out of Houston was insane!

I'm walking on cloud nine today--I lost 8 pounds. It's not a ton, but it's a start. I'm hoping to get some more off before the cruise, but with the CA trip it might be harder to get done. Well anyway, 8 pounds is 8 pounds! Thanks for letting me share.

I have 3 weeks and 4 days to get my stuff together now. WHEW--I need to get BUSY!

Sue Ellen

Good for you Sue Ellen, 8 pds is alot. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Kurt....glad to hear you and your family are safe. Looks like Rita has taken a swing to the east.

:cheer2: :cheer2: Fingers crossed for a upgrade we should be getting assignments soon, if people from the 10/22 are getting them...good luck to all of us hoping to be out of steerage.... :rotfl:

Kurt,

Am very glad to hear that you and your family are together and safe. I will keep you in my prayers this weekend...hopefully everything will turn out just fine. I can't reply from my PM at the office, but wanted to let you know if you wanted your t-shirt total, I can send it to you once I get home. I let Kim know about your situation, and if you don't get around to it until next week or so...she completely understands! Stay safe and keep us posted!!!!

Since we aren't home we have down time so we called Kim with payment. It will also give me time to make reservations for the week before the cruise. It looks like we should not get hit too hard so hopefully no damage. My kids are very relieved that they left. They evacuated a load of their stuffed animals too. My mom is loving iour sudden visit. Any weight I lost is going to be back on. We are eating way too well. All in all we are very lucky and fortunate.

Kurt: Glad you are safe, I have just been sick by all the pictures of those poor people burning up on that bus. I can only imagine those families agony. We are headed back to Dallas tomm. and hoping for calm flight.

Barb: Thanks for the comment about the Swan. I can't tell you how excited I am about staying there.

Kim: Sorry about your friends. I will keep them in my prayers. Saw your message about getting out of steerage, but have decided to be on the "Mickey Boat" as DD calls it, I think I would ride almost anywhere. But I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us, a upgrade would be exciting.

Will start SouthBeach tomm. after all this overeating. Wish me luck. Of course I guess I will probably gain it back on the ship. I just can't ignore all those souffles and mickey bars, even though I should, but it will make me feel a little less guilty I guess.

DD was drinking a Sprite last night, we were walking back to the room and she looked up at me and said "why is this so Spritey"? Not sure what to tell her on that one.....

Much warm happy thoughts to you all.

Lynne

kurt- this may be dumb (especially from someone who used to live in LA), how does it take 10 hours to move 1/2 mile like the news was reporting? Aren't there cars moving somewhere ? I just don't get how an entire freeway is just stopped. Something has to be going somewhere. Where is my brain short circuiting here?

trishy, where do you live? my kids where at Disneyland yesterday, too. Did you see a young girl squealing "Stop it, Timmy!" constantly? That was them! :rotfl2:

Our DIS Cast of Character Photo Album is still pretty thin.... c'mon, send Cheri a picture. No one will see except those who have also sent in pictures. It would be a great way for the teens to get a look at each other. Send me a photo and I'll buy you your first drink at the Beano-Ronnie Jo party. Can't pass up an offer like that!

Cheri - We don't charge for drinks at our party, so what kind of offer is that?? :rotfl2:

Based on tiggerandpooh's post, I say we now change the 'game' to 5 weeks! :sunny:

I'll start: 5 weeks from right now, I will have just gotten on board, and will probably be at the concierge briefing, giving them my laundry list of things to do!!

I'll have them thinking "Can we do that? And is that even legal"? ;)

Cheri,

I am also in Texas, so we are getting alot more on our news than probably the rest of the country. I think alot of the problem was that so many people were trying to leave at once. It took them quite awhile...to open both sides of the freeway to Northbound traffic. To me, once they announced a mandatory evacuation, that should have been a no brainer. From the news here it said that alot of cars were overheating and running out of gas, so I'm sure that that added to the troubles. Fuel trucks were actually trying to get through the jam to fill people up, so that they could keep going. It still seems like a ridiculous amount of time, but I have talked to people who have traveled to my hometown from Houston (about a 5-6 hour drive normally) that said it took well over 24 hours. What a mess, but thank God that people are safe!!!!

On a happier note....I set a goal on the 19th of May to lose 50 lbs. before the cruise. This morning, I hit that goal 5 WEEKS EARLY!!!!!! :cool1:  :cool1: I've decided I am going to try to hit 60 before we go. Can I do it? :scratchin I don't know...but I am sure going to give it a try! Have a great weekend everyone!

Julie - Kudos on hitting the weight loss goal ! :earsboy:

It is a very gratifying feeling isn't it? A few years back, I lost 55 pounds... trouble is, I gained back 70. Oh well. Better start over I guess... after the cruise!

Thanks, Beano! I am just hoping that I can keep it off during the cruise. Thank goodness for the fitness center!!!! :cheer2:

Julie, you know the fitness center will be twice as big as before when we cruise!! I can't wait to see it. Not USE it of course... just see it. :rotfl:

Is it ok to drink a beer while on the treadmill? ;)
