Well I must say, I'm disappointed to not be getting to Costa Maya. I was really looking forward to seeing the ruins, and helping the community out as well. As disappointed as we are, what is worse is that it is a huge loss to the recovery of Costa Maya.

The funny thing is when we were looking at our first cruise, I wanted to do the western so we could go to Grand Cayman (we did the eastern). There's just no pleasing me!

The worst thing is - I have to delete all my saved websites on Costa Maya and start all over with Grand Cayman - which I know very little about! Not a clue, nada, zilch. Oh well - a reason to research and plan!!

Valerie

(PS: Thank you to Buckeye Gal and friends for giving us the heads up and letting us copy some of their ideas and organization methods. I think the links on the first page would be great, and sign me up for the lanyards please (4)!)

Although the Costa Maya news is disappointing, I'm glad we learned early enough to plan for Grand Cayman.

Personally, I think the change is awesome!
Something about Coasta Maya being built to cater to the cruise ship trade turned me off. I love Cayman....number one place in the world to dive! I will never forget my first dive ever, swimming up a tunnel and coming up over the drop off! (just like Nemo) They also have the original Stingray city. We had some awesome seafood there too!

Actually, I have never been to hip on the Western cruises, so Cayman kind of meets in the middle for me!

I agree Woody - it was hard trying to figure out plans for CM when we weren't sure if we were even going there. And we do have lots of time to research, plan, and adjust. At least we don't need to figure out anymore if it was worth it to do a non-Disney excursion!

Here is the name tag

Here is the examples of the lanyard on the website:
LAN-101sample3pic.jpg

The cost of name tags alone would be minimal. The cost of some paper.

Lanyards are the neck peice that would hold the nametag. I thought it could be black with the saying " Halloween on the High Seas" On the website I looked into, the cost would be about $400.00. This would include the paper and some ink for the nametags.

So if people are interested in both the cost would be about $2.00 each (nametag and lanyard). I mentioned in an earlier post about donors. If anyone is interested in being a donor for the project, 20 people could give $20 to the project. Then everyone would get a free souvenir. So far I have 16 people interested in being a donor. :lovestruc :worship:
I would need 4 more. As of right now it looks like we have enough donors for about 100 maybe 150.

If I do the lanyards I would need to order by July 15th. so I am calling all the people who may not post a lot but may want to participate to PLEASE respond. If you have any thoughts on the idea positive or negative please post.:confused3

Let me know if I missed you or you are just reading up and want in.

I have mixed emotions about missing Costa Maya. I was looking forward to the ruins tour and giving to the schools. I don't know much about Grand Cayman. Guess I'll have to do the research. :confused3

In keeping with the pictures we had going earlier.....

Sorry about the sunglassess. I am on the laptop and that is the best I have on photobucket. The picture was taken August 07. DS is now as tall as me and maybe only an inch shy of DH! Talk about a growth spurt!

DH and I really are looking forward to Grand Cayman -- they have great shopping there and I remember the people being so nice. :)

I think we're going to Shipwreck & Reef Snorkeling there.

My DH and I are a little bummed. We really are not into the shopping thing and dont really like grand caymen but oh well. We want to do the turtle farm with the kids but I really dont want to do the tour. I did that last time andknow my kids wont be able to handle it. But Last time I also swam with the stingrays there and that was great! The water is a bit deep for little ones to do it. We had to take a boat out to what seemed like the middle of the ocean, just to swim with them. I know my girls would not want to do that. Now I am left sitting at this darn computer and trying to figure out what to do there now.:surfweb:

It really is a beautiful place but Its just not our cup of tea. I like ports like Roatan, that really have no changed to cater to the ships. I'm gonna do some reasearch but if anyone sees anything about the turtle farm and/or a beach one could you please let us know? :listen: Thanks.

Looking forward to see what everyone else comes up with. Have a great Thursday everyone!

I just upload my photographs to a photograph hosting site called photobucket and I just copy and paste the "IMG CODE" link for the photograph from that site onto my post.

This is one of my photo albums on that site:

if you have a look you will see how it works. There may well be an easier way to do it though which I haven't come across and hopefully someone else may know.

Your pictures are amazing!! What camera do you have?

Just trying to keep it current. I like the idea of the name tag that Buckeye Gal and Erik created. I will create something using our logo. or at least try !:goodvibes

I am also interested and would be happy to be a donor.

No Costa Maya :( That really stinks for us. Angelina uses a wheelchair and Disney recomends not tendering is you us a wheelchair. Last cruise they had sent me a letter before we set sail recommending not to tender ( It was when they weren't sure if the pier would be ready in cozumel).

boy im off the computer for 2 days and look what happens! No Costa Maya, oh well i guess i need to start planning again. mmmm what to do, what to see... Nice pics everyone! except newfie.....she apparently will never show her face. lol. Maybe i can post another of me and the family, we'll see. Well i hope to see everyone in chat tonite!

Well, it would appear that fate has interceded once again. DW and I are now batting 1.000, as all 3 of our cruises haven't sailed their originally scheduled itineraries:
4 night 2005: No day at sea, in favor of about 4 hours at CC (poured for the last hour, too). Original CC day a complete washout.
7 night 2007 Halloween: Destined to never touch CC. But, we did get both ships in the same port on the same day.
7 night 2008 DD: No CM, now GC. Have to be honest: we booked this cruise to have 2 shots at CC, as we've had about 3 hours of nice (not pouring) CC weather total.

Not complaining, just observing. And, this is why no weather guarantees were offered during chat the other night.

DW, please get me an old priest, and a young priest...:lmao:

:groom:

I am very excited about going to Grand Cayman but I am bummed because I can't go snorkeling because of my 2 year old.

I've been looking at a private charters that take you to StingRay City etc., has anyone every done this at Grand Cayman?

If so, who did you use?

Are other diser's interested in a private charter? I am just thinking about our options.

We may end up just hanging out at Rum Point Beach which really isn't all that disappointing to me!! It looks like paradise and my BIL's family has been there and loved it on their last cruise.

Okay, now I am looking at the NativeWay Ecursions. The Reefs, Rays, Rum Point Excursion looks good but its 5 hours and we will have 3 kids under 3 on that excursion. It may be too long.

On CruiseCritic people said you got about 1.5 hours at Rum Point, I think I would want more time.

I can't decide if I just want to go to Rum Point and hang out or not.

How does tendering work on the way back. If I got myself to Rum Point and then decided I wanted to leave in 2 hours and head back to the Magic, can I just go to the pier and wait for the next tender or do they only come during certain blocks of time, when most people will be returning to the ship?

. . . 3 of our cruises haven't sailed their originally scheduled itineraries
Three of ours have changed too. I'm glad this time we know well in advance.

In 2005 the Magic was headed to Cabo San Lucas, and due to weather we learned that morning we were changing ports. We had booked private excursions, and lost our deposits.

Woody

Hey guys - found this link to the Turtle Farm - now called Boatswain's Beach ...

http://www.boatswainsbeach.ky/index.html

It looks good, and I think the kids might enjoy it. To do it through them is almost HALF the price of the DCL excursion - but I haven't been able to find out much yet about getting around Grand Cayman on your own. Will keep searching - just haven't had time yet.

A private tour called Captain Marvin's gets rave reviews on this forum and Cruise Critic. I'd love to go snorkeling, but youngest child will not hear tell of it, so that limits what Mom can do! Why didn't someone tell us parenting was about meeting their needs and not ours :rotfl2: ??

Sorry haven't posted pic of me yet - keep meaning to upload pics from my camera, but haven't had time yet. If any consolation, Amy, DMIL is waiting for pictures too! Adam's bday is next week (the 17th), and party tomorrow night, so have been busy with that. Will hopefully get on chat tonight - depending on how long I'm running around doing loot bag/party stuff. I am such a procrastinator (says the woman who booked a cruise 18 months in advance, and had everything researched/bookmarked a year in advance, has cruise box started, with FE stuff for the cruise - but doesn't have loot bags and cake for tomorrow night!!) :rotfl:

Valerie

I just had to share this with you guys! After the announcement of Grand Cayman, I sorta-kinda jokingly said "Man. This really messes up our logo." The reality is that it does, and many of us have already used the logo to purchase merchandise at Cafe Press.

So.....I wanted to introduce to you our new logo (shown here in a nametag format). :rotfl2:

EriksNametag.jpg

Those of us who have already purchased shirts are going to pull out the Sharpie and do just what you see above over Costa Maya. I think it's brilliant, funny, and certainly will be a real reminder of what happened!

Keep up the research on GC! We have some who can book at 105 on our cruise, which is Friday night into Saturday...so they're burning their keyboards!
