Here in the UK one common superstition is to keep the Christmas decorations / tree etc up until the 6th January (12 days of Christmas) but my interpretation of the 12 days of Christmas is 6 days before and 6 days after, which means they can come down on 31st December! I usually however leave them up until the 1st of January, but this year I am working a 12 hour shift on the 1st, so I will take all the decorations down on the 2nd (to be honest I am always glad to see the back of them as I always get the urge to give the house a good de-clutter and clean up in January / February.
Another tradition here is to make New Year's Resolutions - do you do this in the USA / Canada?
I myself have a few, as always.....
1. to actually stick to my new years resolutions!
2. to become more healthy - this incorporates healthy eating, weight loss and more exercise, with the particular aims of starting a weekly exercise class of some sort, going back to my tap dancing and getting down to 9 and a half stone before my cruise.
3. to de-clutter this house completely and sort out all the stuff which I have been planning to sort out since we moved in here.
our specific aims re. house this year are:
1.to do something with the kitchen just to tide us over until the big renovations of 2009 / 2010.
2. to completely do our bedroom.
I also want to get a new computer system, to finish saving for the 2008 cruise / Florida holiday as soon as possible and then and to start saving for 2009 holidays ( possibly skiiing in Jan / Feb 2009, an adults only cheapie med cruise with friends in October 2009, and hopefully
Disneyland Paris in July 2009)
Now they say if you write things down then it's easier to get things acheived ....so hopefully..........
