October 22, 2005 Roll call

Scrapperjill- Jeepman is REALLY into camera's I will ask him which flash he would recommend. We usually go to a store here called Sammy's Cameras and they have a website and if you order online the prices are cheaper then in the store. Also, we've used B & H photo dot com (it wouldn't let me post the URL) and they have EXCELLENT prices and camera's and accessories.

Very nice button design, I would NEVER be that creative. I like that design but if everyone is going to use the other graphic as a door magnet maybe we should use the same one for our button just to be uniform?

Just finished reading our Passporter Guide for the Disney Cruise and I am so glad we decided NOT to do the glass bottom boat tour on Key West, they rated it 1/10, but I feel better about the Jeep Tour as it's rated a 7/10. As you may have guessed Jeepman likes to 4X4 and he's taking this opportunity to "4 wheel in a foreign country" :cool1:

Well guess I should finish getting ready for work...... EVERYONE have a great day..... :cheer2: :flower: :sunny:

Hello Everyone! Scrapperjill, I would also be willing to help with the cost of the buttons. I loved your buttons last year!!

Timon, you are correct scrapperjill and I both have the Rebel XT and let me just say I LOVE IT!!!! :lovestruc We took pics at my DDs dance recital without a flash and from a distance and they turned out great! Some were blurry or dark, but the dark ones can be adjusted. I also took pics at my brother's recent wedding and they too turned out great! I am also hoping to get some nice pics of the fireworks on Monday. I am so pleased with it. I am still learning and am going to try to take a class before our cruise.

Well, gotta go pack (yes I am a last minute person, I am still doing laundry  ). We fly out at 8:00 tonight.

Kathy

Scrapperjill- Jeepman recommends the Speedlite 550EX, but says that the 420EZ and the 520EZ are just as good. The Disneylands 50th photos on our link were all taken without additional flash. Jeepman has the Rebel 300D not the XT.

Have a great time on your trip

Holy Cow!!!! Have I been under a rock? (I do look like I just crawled out from under one right now, actually ;) ) I did not realize that I had been away fromt he DIS for so long!

First, WELCOME to all our new friends! It's so exciting to see our group growing so quickly!

Next, I must give props to Scrapperjill....her door signs and buttons last year were outstanding! The buttons were SO DARN CUTE!! The photos she posted really do not do justice to the final product. I will donate to the button fund via PayPal too!

Love the magnetic sign graphic, I must go find some of the magnetic paper. We did not do a door sign last year either, but only because I was never able to find the magnetic paper. And with shipping it was so expensive to order it online....like $15.00 (with tax & shipping) for 3 sheets. I figured that I would need more than 3 sheets because I would certainly goof a few up.

I am all for the 3pm meet at the Mickey Pool too. I thought that time and place worked well on our cruise last year.

I do not own the Digital Rebel XT.....but I am in the market for a new digital camera as ours got completely full of sand at the beach earlier this month. I would like to own one, but I don't know if I could justify the cost seeing as I normally forget to take my camera with me whenever it's important! Anyone else have a digital camera that they've been happy with? Is the Rebel a 35mm AND a digital camera?

Before I go, thanks thanks thanks to pdarrah for keeping up with the website...it is very cool and very useful.

Okay, you guys got me excited about cruising again! Yeah!

Stacy

Threesmiths...They have a Digital Rebel...and a 35mm Rebel...of course they've had the 35mm one alot longer.. Jesse just did some research for his job on digital camera...and found the top pick...it was some cannon point and shot..digital..just a couple hundred dollars. If you'd like I'll see what he found..so far his work is liking them..but of course they don't use it alot...but our friend Kim also got one not to long ago...and loves it..very easy and takes some great shots

GrumpyNJeepman...I also thought about using the the door sign graphic for the buttons...but it would take a little work since the buttons are round and the door sign is not....we'd have to tweek it and do some adjusting to make it work...so in the end it really wouldn't look much like the door sign at all.
The 550XE I'll keep that in mind...thanks...we don't have ANY camera stores near us...so we either look when we go up to Seattle (which is regularly)or to Portland (when we visit family)...or look online. I've been told to go for the bigger on to start with...because it will do the same as the smaller ones..and more. If I remember right it was a 500something.

I just found one of our actual buttons from last year...and the one I posted must have been a demo/idea...because the finished button has a little more to it....like...our names are tilted on one ear...and the sail date is in the other ear...then Scrapperjill is a little bolder..and it still says something...like Disney Magic Western Carabbean...It's alot closer to the one that is on the door sign...with the tilted name and stuff...

Oh also...how many does everyone think we need? And are we wanting one for EVERYONE on the cruse meet board...including kids...I know our kids had them last year...and loved them.

ThreeSmiths - My boyfriend recommends the Pentex Optio WP because it is waterproof and will keep the sand out better, it is also good for up to 5 ft underwater. Costco sells it for approx. $350 and you can't beat the return policy at Costco either. It is a 3X's optical Zoom and a 5 megapixel camera.

Scrapperjill- The design you posted that you used before is a great design and since you've been so kind to volunteer to make them you should go with the design that requires the least amount tweeking.

I think as far as the kids having buttons that it should be up the the parents if they think their child would like to wear one, but it would be a great way for other kids to know their names as well.

Hello fellow cruisers!

I just finished putting together a 7 minute video from our last DCL cruise in 2002, and since everyone is getting all excited about our upcoming cruise, I thought I would put a link to it here and share it with you!

I am really disappointed in how little we camcorded last time! I promised myself that in October I am going to record way more!!!!!!!

oh you'll need Windows Media Player to watch it.

here's the link:

Happy cruise planning!!! :rotfl:

WOW, that was AWSOME!! cannot wait to go! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thanks Timon for posting it!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Hi everyone!

We are taking a quick vacation (DS & I - DH decided to stay home and work around the house without any interuptions!) in Northern Wisconsin. I'm on a horribly slow cell phone internet connection - Yuck! Just wanted to let you all know that I probably will not check my email much so any website updates won't happen until I'm back on Wednesday.

I think the kids would like to have their own buttons. They'll like them AND it will help the rest of us remember all their names also!

In cameras - I have a point/shoot Canon A80 which I am quite happy using. It's "Auto" mode is pretty good and it can mostly be controlled manually also. However, it is about a year old, so that model may not be available anymore....

"See" you all next week.

pdarrah

Hi, just wanted to let you guys know I got my nephew to post over on the kids thread his log on is "ilikebaseball".

Pam, hope you and Darrah have a great time in Wisconsin. "See" you when you guys return!

It is with great saddness that I write that we have to cancel our Disney Cruise........ :sad1:

We are hoping to reschedule for a different week or different cruise line (although I was REALLY looking forward to doing all things Disney....

Pdarrah I will send you a seperate email to remove James and I from the "who's going" page.

I have learned a lot about the disney cruise and what to expect from this thread and hope that when we reschedule that we will have a nice DisMeet thread to go to.

Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL time........

Greetings everyone! I was just invited over to this thread so I thought I'd introduce myself. My family will be taking their first DCL cruise on the 10/22 Magic and we're looking forward to it. My wife, Mary Ann, and I cruised on RC for our honeymoon nine years ago and I cruised before that when I was 14 on the Boheme, some obscure ship that happened to dock in our home town (St. Petersburg). We're bringing our two kids, Emily, who will turn 4 on October 25 and Ben, who will be almost 19 month old on the cruise. So this should be quite the experience for us.

We're Disney fans, though not fanatics like some of you! Living 90 minutes away is convenient and we go to the parks a few times a year. We were in California in April and went to Disneyland while there. Most recently we were at Disney/MGM for Star Wars Weekends. I'm a member of a Star Wars costuming club (501st Legion) and Disney had us march in their parade. I got my wife suited up for the parade so we could get some extra tickets (they gave us 2 tickets each per parade as a thanks, so after a three day weekend we had 12 park hopper passes good for a year).

Anyway, we look forward to meeting people having a blast with our kids. If you see Emily on the 25th, say Happy Birthday!

Scott

Hi there! I haven't been on here for a few months and WOW, lot's has happened!
Welcome to everyone how has joined!
I wanted to say "count us in" for the 3pm meet as well as any button, door sign, etc that becomes available. Just let me know what to do to add to the donation pot.
I promise to check in more often now....I just get so excited when I read this and then get bummed that I'm not leaving RIGHT NOW!
Thanks to everyone for keeping this board going
Jeff (DH), Amy (me), Abby (4 yrs) and Paige (2 yrs)

I'm Back!! Well, we made it through the Florida heat and the crowds and had a great time! The heat was actually not too bad, it was hot, but not completely unbearable. We had a heat wave here in Chicago before we left, so I think I was already used to it. The only really HOT day was yesterday at the Magic Kingdom, and I think part of that was the massive amount of bodies!! No, really that too was not bad until about 3:00. We arrived at 8:00 when the park opened and got right on the train and went to the back of the park, which was empty. We rode Big Thunder Mountain twice and Splash Mountain twice then went to Tom Sawyer's island and then off to Toon Town for some fun there and then onto the rest of the park. We did not do as much as we usually would have, but was fine with the rides we did go on and not disapointed with anything. Most of the fastpasses were distributed by 4:30 for the evening (The Stitch ride return time was between 12:00 & 1:00 AM!). At that time we were pretty much done with rides and had dinner in the Castle and off to find a spot for fireworks. I found them to be nice, but not what I expected. I think part of it was that we went over by Space Mountain thinking we still had a good view of the castle and the fireworks would be just as nice without a major crowd, but I guess I was wrong. They did not play the music throughout the park to the fireworks show, but only down MainStreet, which was a disapointment and boy, the crowds afterwards were crazy! We had to leave the park from the back, behind the MainStreet USA Shops! It was actually pretty organized, just crazy - and HOT! Just think of being packed in a bus with alot of Sweaty, Smelly People!! EWW!!!

Overall, it was a good trip. We only ran into one problem when we arrived on the 30th (about 11:30 pm) our room was not available, the hotel computers were down since 4:00 and they had to check everyone in manually and by the time we checked in, they lost our room and had to put us in the Inn section for the night, then switch us to the villas the next day. Not a big deal, but the only reason we used our points for that night was so we didn't have to repack and wait for a room to be ready for us, but it was understandable, considering they were working with no computers running. They were very accomodating for us. Epcot and MGM were pretty empty the first two days also. Anthony loved Mission Space and Peyton's favorite ride was Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. Also, Jim called our Camera our third child. Saying it was a pain to carry, but from what I saw so far (I haven't looked at all of them yet) we got some good pics. Have I mentioned, I Love my camera!!

Timon - what a great video! The first song is one of Peyton's favorites! I really need to get with the times - we never use our video camera!

GrumpyNJeepman, so sorry you had to cancel. I hope you find a different week.

Skaught, Welcome aboard!

Now that our Disney trip is done, I can get planning on our Cruise!

Kathy

Skaught,
Welcome!!! :cool1: My hubby will be happy to know that there is another 501st member on our cruise! He's a member of the Badlands Squadron here in Calgary and he's loving every minute of it!!! He will be SO jealous when I tell him about you being at MGM for SWW and IN the parade! He SO badly wanted to go but we couldn't afford it and he couldn't take the time off work (he works 3 jobs!)

I am sure he will PM you and introduce himself! His DIS name is Darkrobe.

GrumpyNJeepman,
Sorry you had to cancel, good luck with everything!

American Scrapper,
Welcome back!! I am glad you had a good time. I can't imagine doing Disney in July, I can't handle heat OR crowds :earboy2:

We are officially in the double digits !!!! 98 more days till we leave!!
Sorry..but I gotta DANCE......... :cool1: :cool1:

GrumpyNJeepMan...so sorry to hear about your trip plans being postponed.

Kathy..I can't wait to hear all about your trip...and to see your photos. I was wondering this weekend as we were strolling around the beach (with camera in tow) how it would be at WDW and on the cruise. I can't wait to get some awesome pics...but it is alot bigger than my pocket sized sony ;) ...I loved having it with me all the time...but being able to stick it in my pocket when I didn't want to carry it. I found the Rebel is ALOT harder to stuff in my pocket :rotfl: ...I do think I got some great photos while we were at the beach....but I'm going to have to find something else to pack it in....What do you have?..Oh..I'm also wanting to bring my tripod to the park..to get some firework shots...am I crazy?...okay I already know I am...but I've seen so many great castle shots with the fireworks...I want to give it a try...Did you?

Well I hope everyone had a GREAT time over the holiday weekend....I can't wait until we get to double digits...just a couple more days to go. :cool1:

I'll try and look over the button thing some more tomarrow (prices) and figure out what ($$) we'll be looking at. How many people do we have pitching in? I too think the kids would like the buttons and it would/does make it handy.

Oh..and welcome...Skaught...glad to have you join us.

Hi Everyone! - We're home again. DH seems to have had "fun" working around the house for 4 days without anyone pestering him. DS & I had a great time in Wisconsin. It's a really long drive (about 7 hours) to get to our cabin (my great-great uncle built it nearly 100 years ago, so we didn't have much input on the location!) but it is always worth the drive.

Skaught - Welcome! If you haven't yet, take a look at our website (www.bwdarrah.com/dcl) and if you would like to be added to our "Who's going" page, just let me know.

GumpynJeepman - I'm so sorry you had to cancel - it must be really hard to be all excited about a trip and then have to give it up. Best wishes for a future cruise!

Afoss - I'm so glad to see you back - I was wondering what had happened to you. Are you having an awful drought where you are? We are dry as a bone here in the Chicago area.

Scrapperjill - I think I counted 6 of us who have volunteered to donate to a button fund. Let us know once you figure out the costs and how you would prefer we get the money to you.

American Scrapper - Welcome Back! I can't imagine going to WDW in July, but I'm glad you had a good time :) I can really believe that our heat wave helped prepare you for it - wow was it hot here! Of course, my car's airconditioning went out right before it hit and it took most of the 90+ degree days to get it fixed.

Good night everyone,

pdarrah

American Scrapper - ditto what pdarrah said! Anyone who can go to WDW in the summer is braver (or crazier! ) than I am! :teeth: :sunny: Glad you had a good time!

I'm also willing to chip in on costs for buttons/door signs, whatever. I love the designs!

Nothing exciting going on here. However, today is my SIL's (angel51201-who's part of our cruise group!) birthday! Diane, :bday:
