Thanks Threesmiths!

Scrapperjill, I too am still in for donating funds for the buttons. Let me know how you would like the money sent. If you need anything supplywise, let me know and I can probably send it out along with the payment (this was my reason for the original post, until I got off topic).

I am back for more information again :sad2: My DGF's daughter was asking about a goofy sleepover...if my research is correct this isn't really a sleepover and only goes til like 1 or 2? I think she and hubby were planning alone time, so DGF volunteered us for the rest of the night. First question is if anyone knows if my research is correct and if so what night of cruise is the goofy sleepover so I may adjust any plans.
Next is whether the camera discussion is still going on (wish I had been around back in Jan) I spent a whole day reading the Door sign threat (thanks
Pdarrah) and am only up to page 12 on this thread so far. But I took great interest in all the pictures you all take (2500+ ! ) I got a Cannon Powershot S2 last month as it first came out :Pinkbounc but unfortunately a watertight housing isn't available yet. Will a disposable underwater work for CC?
Thanks again

MNmousecouple,

I am not sure if they are still doing the Goofy Sleepover still. I have heard some talk about it on the boards, but do not recall when it is. From what I remember though, what you said sounds right. I think it is a kids club event and the kids go in the PJs and Goofy comes to party with them. Most of the evenings the clubs are open until 12 or 1 in the morning, so you could schedule any night, as long as you DGF's daughter will go to the club you will also be able to have some time to yourselves also before picking her up. My kids wanted to close the clubs every evening! I don't recall if you had mentioned it, how old is your DGFs daughter?

Our camera discussion tends to go on and off, so jump in whenever and someone will start talking about it. I, for one, love my camera. I have a Canon Rebel XT (Digital SLR) as well as Scrapperjill and Timon (no getting an underwater case for that!). I also have a Canon Powershot 200 which is a few years old, but still love it too, it just did not take very good pics in low light. I did use a throwaway underwater camera last year and got OK pics underwater. If you could get a underwater casing for your camera you would most likely get better pics than a throwaway. I know you mentioned that your DGF doesn't do much posting, please let her know that last year a few of us that sailed together shared our pics with each other after the cruise. This gave us a ton more pics than we could have possibly taken ourselves (and as some avid scrappers more to scrap!). I believe we are planning to do so again this time around and your are more than welcome to join us.

Happy reading!

Kathy

American Scrapper aka Kathy, thank you for the information I thought that an overnight was a stretch but wanted to confirm.
Strangely enough I was just reading your post from feb 11 about cameras. I picked the Cannon S2 for a couple reasons....I really don't like LCD for focusing (camera I have at work only has this and it just isn't good enough) plus this has a 12x optical lens and can do "movies" 1gig memory only holds like 8 minutes tho :( I still have my "ancient" minolta that I may bring with but I am trying to get away from the bulk, altho the new cam is hefty for it's size ...I like that it still feels like a camera and it will fit a belly bag.
Man I love this site :bounce: :bounce:

Yea!!! For Anthony and his team :cheer2: :cheer2: Way to go. :cool1: :cool1:

Cameras?.....Did someone say cameras? :teeth: I have to say I'm loving mine also  . We used a underwater housing unit for our Sony T1 last year....(See the pic in my signature area)...and got some pertty good shots...however I think a disposable will be good also...well better than nothing :teeth: (You should check out the "Post your DCL photos" thread on the main DCL board....yesterday someone posted an amazing photo from a disposable underwater camera...It's AWESOME. And like American Scrapper mentioned a few of us last year swapped photos (CD's) after the cruise which was soooo great...to see everyones elses views of the ship and ports...I for one am totally up for doing a photo swap again. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

As for the Goofy PJ party...your right on with your info...Goofy comes to the club for a period of time....plays games with the kids and they all make a pillowcase as a souviner....but like everything else it has a time frame...aka no overnighter ;) ...but like American Scrapper mentioned....the kids club is open until Midnight-1am everynight....everyone with kids should be able to find plenty of "Alone" time.... For those who want something diffrent for "alone" time....check into the Exotic Rasul/ Surial Ritual Chamber in the spa.... Okay back to Goofy and the PJ party....I also don't remember exactly what night it's scheduled....maybe look at one of the more resent Navagators to see what they have listed...or maybe check our a few to see how often they change the day.

Hi Everyone,

Goofy's Giggle Gala at the Oceaneer's Club is, unfortunately, the same night at Pirate Night from 7:30 to 9:15. This was true for every Western before the repositioning that I was able to get info on (so October through May). It is possible that there may be changes to the kid club schedules after the Magic returns from California or after the dry-dock. I certainly hope there is!

Having both events the same night makes it very hard for the kid's to choose. For early seating kids, they need to hurry from the pirate dinner, get changed into PJ's, go to the Giggle Gala, get changed into Pirate costumes (or regular clothes) and hurry to the Pirate Party (starts at 9:45). Late seating kids have to choose between the Pirate Dinner and Goofy since they are at the same time - the only real compromise for them would be to go to the Giggle Gala in either pirate or regular clothes right up to dinner time, leave Goofy a little early for dinner and go directly from dinner to the Pirate Party.

Since both these events are big hits with the Club age kids (3-7) it seems a real shame they are on the same night.

pdarrah

What is Goofy's Giggle Gala? I noticed you said something about PJ's, iI had heard something about one night the kids being able to "camp out" under the stars, is that what this is?

Hi again Everyone!

I have just made some updates to the "Useful Stuff" page on our website.

  • I have updated the itinerary chart to show the All Ashore/All Aboard time that are currently on the DCL website.
  • I have added our 3:00pm meet at the Mickey Pool.
  • I have added a weather "sticker" for Grand Cayman - although it is currently reporting "not available".
  • I have added a section for related trip reports. Right now, there is only a link to my report from last year's Western. If any of you would like your report(s) included or come across any others you think would be useful, just let me know.

I haven't updated my dining rotation/itinerary charts yet. I don't know how much will change when the Magic returns from the West Coast. I'll update after the first Western after it get's back (September 10, 2005 sailing). It is also possible that things will change after the Dry Dock - but since we are the first Western after then, we won't know until we get there!

Does anyone else have any ideas for stuff that might be useful on the website? Should I include the graphic Joemuseum made for using for door magnets? Do we want to include anything about the name-badge buttons?

pdarrah

Hi Landy,

Goofy's Giggle Gala is a "Pajama Party" with Goofy for the kids at the Oceaneer's Club (ages 3-7). They wear their PJ's, Goofy comes and "plays" with them. They seem to usually decorate a pillow case as part of this.

This event existed before Pirate Night started. I think fewer kids are wearing their PJ's now since they need to get changed back to at least regular clothes (if not Pirate costumes) for the party up on deck. My DS5 skipped our Late dinner (Pirate theme) last year for this event. He is still trying to decide what he want's to do this year. Right now he is leaning toward going to dinner with us since he is getting us all to dress up as pirates!

pdarrah

Great job on the website pdarrah! I've already made my door magnet but I am sure it would be handy for others to have the graphic on your website somewhere, instead of searching through this thread to find it!

I have my trip report from our Eastern DCL cruise if you would like to add that to your site next to mine. It's http://www.cassworld.ca/dcl2002.htm

As for cameras, I SO love my Digital Rebel! And I am so eager to use it on vacation!!! We are spending a week and a bit at WDW before the cruise and I have been marking down on my itinerary what days I think I could take it to the parks without it being a huge hassle, since I think it may be a little bit of a pain to lug around. That's the one thing I like about my Canon S400, it's TINY!!! It fits in my pocket!

Hi guys!
I am also still in for the buttons, will have to send it snail mail as I am leary of Paypal since I have heard so much about fraud.

Pam, Thanks for the note about the update, will check it out!

CONGRATS to Anthony and his team! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am off for a long weekend in the Poconos with my parents, so I will be back Sunday afternoon. "See" ya then.

Pdarrah...I think adding something about the name badges to the web site would be a great idea. I'll need to get a list of everyone who's wanting them....along with the names of everyone it their party...and by having it on the web site....maybe everyone who we direct there will see it and let me know as soon as they can. I guess we can divide the amount up anytime...I'll PM those who are wanting to contribute to the fund. :teeth:

Okay I pm'd all those who mentioned they'd contribute to the button fund :goodvibes Let me know if I left out any information you'll need. :teeth:

Hi Scrapperjill,

I'll add some info on the buttons to the website today! I do have one suggestion - I think everyone should provide their stateroom number when they give you the info for the buttons. I know some people don't like giving this out, but it wouldn't need to be posted online anywhere - AND when some people can't make it to the first day meet (it's bound to happen - late arrivals or just too busy) it will still be possible to get their buttons to them. I know that last year I ended up with some "extra" nametags for people that I never ran into on the cruise. If I had known where they were located (or a last name!) I could have dropped them off or asked guest services to contact them.

Hi Everyone!

I just made a few more changes to our website. I found a few broken links on the "Links" page and fixed them. If you find any others, please let me know. If you know of any other good sites that you are using for planning your trip, let me know and I'll add them.

Scrapperjill - I added a bit about the buttons to the "Useful Stuff" page. Please take a look and see if it is OK - if you want any changes, just let me know.

Timon - I added a link to your trip report - nice website! I didn't have time to read it today, but I'll get to it as soon as I can!!!

Gotta run - DS6 has art class in about 15 minutes!

Pdarrah

I think that's a great idea...I was actually just thinking about what to do for those who would like the buttons...but don't end up making it to the meet. The room numger thing would be Great I think... I'll swing on over to the web site...and take a look at what you added. :goodvibes

I think that looks good. :goodvibes

Hello! I think it would be fine to include our cabin numbers too. Since I have never done buttons or door signs, I am just leaving the decisions up to the experts! I need to read the door sign threads to figure out how to do one.

Thanks to pdarrah and Scrapperjill for taking these task on. The web site looks great!

Is anyone here flying out of Indy? Have you got your tickets yet? I'm still debating on the Airtran non-stop flight leaving at 11am on the 29th. Price is good, I love the idea of non-stop with a 4 and 2 year old but scared of the time.

I'm on a mission to lose 30 pounds by the cruise! I should probably shoot for40 since I'm sure I'll gain 10 on the cruise! :drinking: :mickeybar

Wah Hoo! (as Ms Frizzle would say :) )

I just booked our flights! Southwest just extended their schedule past Oct 28th today. I was able to get round trip for $175 for DH, DS & me and $115 for my parents (they are flying in the 20th and out the 29th). We could have had the $115 if we were willing to leave at 10:55am on the 30th, but we want our day at WDW, so we are paying extra to fly at 6:35pm instead.

Afoss - if you are willing to drive up to Midway, you might want to check out Southwests flights now that they are available. $115 is pretty amazing - I've NEVER had that good a fair to Orlando. The best I've ever had was $145 - and I am actually reasonably happy with $175.

pdarrah

Pdarrah... Are you planning a day at WDW the day we get off the ship? And then still flying home that evening? Just asking because our flights don't leave until the evening and I was trying to think of something to do but didn't know if I really had time to plan anything for that day.

Last year we had the same time flights (Or real close) and we sat at the airport ALL day long.

If you are planning an activity for the day what are you doing with all of your luggage?

Yipee!!!! Thanks to pdarrah, I just found out that Southwest has opened up for the dates we need and I got the tickets!!!

padarrah- we got the $175 rate too..I'm fine with that. It was the same whether we flew out of Indy or Midway. We went with Indy since it's a bit closer. Oct 19-29. I'm sort of worried about the fact that we only have a 50 minute layover in Baltimore, but there wasn't much of a choice. :worried:

Oh my gosh!!! that was the last of my planning...now what am I going to do!???
