This is Stuart sitting at one of the 150 year old desks. This is a part of the schoolhouse that most people NEVER get to go into. Usually you only see this area through glass. Stuart and Leah even got to ring the school bell.

The Park rangers had a variety of games out there to play. Similar to games that were played in the 1850's. Here I am teaching the kids how to play with a hoop.

its a regular little house on the prairie school.
robin went to an old school. 1st thru 12th all in one school. real old desks.
shes kind of upset because they just passed a levy in her old town and they are going to build a new school. they wont tear the old one down though as its a historical thing. i guess they are planning a last dance for all the alumni.

heres a question for you guys. does anyone else save those coke rewards?
we dont buy much pop but a guy i work with sells pop and he was throwing them away so i started getting them from him a while ago.
so far ive gotten 3 shirts, a couple hats, golf balls, an adidas bag, a basketball and a back pack. all for free. just for entering codes on the computer.
just wondering if anyone else was doing it?

After our picnic, we did a little rock climbing. These rock formations were made by the miners spraying water at the rock in high pressures. They would then sluice the runoff for gold flakes.

We just got back form Nevada City CA and the kids went panning in the Yuba and American River. We visited the Empire Mine. My Grandfather was a miner there in the late 1930's. It was interesting because you can actually see down the shafts.

It really is! You should have seen the desks on the other side. They won't let anyone sit on them because they were the original desks to schoolhouse. They were ancient.

ive got 1900 right now but not sure what to get. i was hoping they were going to come out will some new stuff soon.

We had a school like that in Brown Deer where I grew up. It was the Little White School House.

They didn't do any classes there, but had the old time set up. Not sure how old the desks were though.

Rat's Judy, the pics didn't come through!

My ex-wife's family owns land in the Grass Valley area. It is absolutely pockmarked with mineshafts. You have to be careful because the high grass covers them and it is very easy to fall into one. They are VERY deep. They always seemed to have a story of a cow falling into them.
