My oldest wants one very badly but I have heard they smell badly and I am afraid they will try to kill my birds. Any thoughts on that since you know them well?

Mary,
They have a faint smell....kind of musky.... most of my friends and son think it's hardly anything, a bit unusual but not horribly unpleasant...
but 1 of my friends and my boyfriend think he stinks.
I guess that some people's noses are more sensitive than others.
Go to a pet shop and ask to hold one. See how it is for you and your family.

Birds..... yes, they are natural enemies of ferrets. Ferrets will try anything to get to them and kill them. You would have to wait until you had no more birds or else keep them in a room that the ferrets couldn't get in to, or vice versa. And believe me.... a determined ferret can squeeze himself under many doors that have a small clearance at the bottom!

But I used to be a cat lover above all other animals, now I'm not as sure...
my ferret is the cutest, funnest, most entertaining pet I've ever owned!

P.S. No way I'd get a snake either!
You have to feed them mice.... and I'd cry.... I really like mice too.

No such luck - no early copies here. But I can't believe that people who did get it early are going to such lengths to ruin it for others (including the New York Times).

Brenda,
lately my son (almost 17) has decided how hysterical it is to ruin things for me....

He told me the ending to the season finale to LOST before I had time to watch it.

Then, when I read HP and the HBP.... he told me the ending!
I was SOOOOOO PISSED....

Well, the last few days, he's told me he knows the ending to HP 7.
I told him he couldn't possibly that it's not out yet.... he said it already was in UK and people were already talking about it online (don't know if he's kidding me or not)

Anyway.... I told him "IF YOU TELL ME ANY MORE DETAILS OF ANY MOVIES OR BOOKS I'M PLANNING ON WATCHING OR READING, I AM CUTTING OFF YOUR ALLOWANCE FOREVER!"

That shut him up!

I hope.

Rose, I was so disheartened to hear of people getting the book early and actually trying to ruin it for the rest of us. And then this morning the NY Times published a review of the entire book!

Here's a copy of the email I sent them, fat lot of good it will do now.

To Whom It May Concern:

I was terribly disappointed to learn of your decision to publish a review of the final Harry Potter book two days before its official release. Such flagrant disregard for the wishes of the author, publishers, and millions of Potter fans is not something I would have expected from the Times. I can think of no other reason for this decision other than a desire on the part of your editorial staff to beat everyone else to the finish line, for surely such a move will not increase your circulation numbers or result in a Pulitzer Prize.

Shame on you and your thoughtless attempt to squash the magic from a moment that will only come once for millions of readers, among them countless children who have been eagerly awaiting the release of this final volume. Perhaps your next "big scoop" can be a front-page article published on December 23rd proving indisputably that Santa Claus does not exist.

I accidentally know more about book 7 than I wanted to, but thankfully I don't know anything major. Once I get home tonight I'm steering clear of the internet until I'm finished reading the book on Saturday - don't want to stumble across anything else between now and tomorrow night. :headache:

Shame on the NY Times!:sad2:

Great letter Brenda. I hope they read it and publish it and other people complain too.
Perhaps even lose subscriptions and learn a lesson.

Thanks. I know that a lot of Potter fans are up in arms and have been emailing and phoning the Times to complain. I do think it's pretty cool that a number of news outlets have refrained from reporting any spoilers - it's nice to know that some people still have journalistic ethics.

"Disney Night"??? I wonder, can I get from Wisconsin to Calgary by Saturday night via my car?:woohoo:

Hmmm, it might be tight Nancy, but I think you can do it :woohoo: I drove to Orlando from Calgary in less than TWO days when I was 21 (Good Lord, was I stoooohpid ::yes::)

Any fun plans for the weekend out there? Chuck and I are planning on seeing Ratatouille and maybe Shrek3 (if it's still out). Tony and Stacy are coming over Saturday night for a grill out and movie night. Then Tony and I will be up at the "A$$ crack of Stupid" to book our excursions for Chuck and I. The kids get to book on Aug. 6th and we'll do it again then.

I know Cheryl and I will be on the KK thread with our results. Hopefully you will join us for an Early Morning Chat.

Good luck to all the "Losers" tomorrow.

Saturday is mom-in-law's b-day, so perhaps a dinner out after our Disney Night. Saturday afternoon we will be signing the lease for our house :woohoo:
Sunday will be a trip to our local amusement park (IF you can call it that!!! :sad2: ) Calaway Park. Good practice for WDW ::yes::

And of course, Sunday morning will be spent on the computer making Flounders ressies as well as Parasailing ressies for CC. :yay:

What???

No mention of anyone purchasing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at 12:01 AM on Saturday morning (to me it's still Friday night).

I can't be the only one... can I? ;)

Rob will be buying that!! Last time he made me run down to Mac's (convenient store) which is half a block from our house to get it as he was too busy sleeping  I showed up at 12:05 am and got the LAST book they had!

Cass - when are you going to the Halloween Party and what is a "Disney Night"? (I want one!:)

We are going to MNSSHP on the 14th (Sunday) and a Disney Night is where we invite over Rob's family (who is going with us this trip) and we go over our itinerary, plans, ADR's and watch some Disney videos etc. They are not planners, in fact they've left everything in my hands (thank goodness cus I am a control freak when it comes to all things Disney :rolleyes1 ) and they have never been to WDW or DCL so while they are not doing any kind of planning, I still like to get them prepared a little. Plus it gives us a chance to get all excited about our trip and talk Disney :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Besides, we don't want them to be the kind of people who show up in shorts and a tank top to dinner :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: we have to sit with them

:scared: :scared: :scared:

Where are the stupid Food and Wine Festival program offerings and prices???

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Why on earth haven't they been released yet? I'm almost as on edge about those as I am about Deathly Hallows.

Crossing my fingers that you guys get what you want!! :thumbsup2

speaking of ale carts... how do you like the variety of beers we're providing tomorrow night?

Kirin
Murphy's Red
Kronenbourg 1664
Goose Island Pale Ale
Dos Equus
Sam Adams (sampler pack)
Schlaffley's (sampler pack)
Bud Light (blech, but we've got to allow for local tastes)

We will also be offering Sangria, Mango Margaritas, Guavaberry Coladas, and Kahlua Coladas... so many drinks, so little time! :goodvibes

My goodness, if I drank, I would make you my best friends!!! ::yes:: :lmao:

Great letter Brenda!! You tell 'em!!! :cheer2: I am waiting to read the books but Rob reads them and he wants to tell me SO BAD what happens but I told him that he can't tell me anything!!! :sad2: He's almost given a few things away but I warned him that I will smack him if he spoils the movies for me. It's not often that I watch a movie THEN read the book, so I am acually enjoying the story unravel on the big screen!

Welcome back Cheryl, sounds like you had a great time. I'm certain we all wish we were you, since I'm only going to be at Disney the day before we set sail. Just not enough time, we'll be cramming in everything we possibly can. Where in N. Wisconsin does your family live?

Brenda - I don't know that I will be at the bookstore at Midnight, but will be there Sat. to purchase HP for DS.

Nancy - going to be down in your area on Sunday, Bryce is going to a soccer camp next week and I have to drop him off Sunday afternoon.
Have a good day all.

Janice, Time for a mini DISmeet?

We don't have anything like that here but I would take it as a for sale by owners and they won't work with an agent on the buyers side.

All the real estate laws change from state to state so it could mean something completely different, but if it is a home being sold by the seller then it probably does mean that.

It is being sold by owner. Thanks for clearing it up.

"Jason bring me a coffee honey"...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You still have Guavaberry left from 05 or is this from your new batch?
I might head on down just for a GC. We weren't smart enough to buy any last time.:sad2:

I'm not buying Boddingtons for anyone other than Jay and me... :thumbsup2

AFEG, you have to understand the Midwestern US beer palate: most people drink Anheuser Busch, Miller, or Coors products based on their geography. The beers we've selected are a huge jump for most of the people coming to our shindig. Cut 'em some slack.

Yup, this Midwesterner enjoys her Miller Lite and will occasionally venture out to a Corona Lite.:dance3:

Oh what a day!

Out with clients on a tight schedule to fit in 13 houses in 7 hours in two different counties...no time to spare as I then have an appt right after and then need to head across town to the white water park.

First 5 houses, flawless. Thinking it is going to be a great day! 3 of 5 they liked... this could work.

House 6... show up and the seller starts yelling at us! We were scheduled 11:30-12:30 and it was 12:26 and so we were within time limits.. I ask does he want me to go? He says no but keeps yelling. So we go in and Mrs. Seller continues where he left off... So my clients are like lets get the heck out of here and as we start to leave psycho house.. Mrs. Seller says are you leaving already? I simply say, yes, our 4 minutes are now up and I don't want to go past the time slot since you are obviously unhappy that we are here.

House 7 was no where in my garmin.. nor was it on mapquest or google maps. So we headed to house 8.

House 8. Beautiful house and as we were pulling up there was a field of sunflowers (my absolute favorite flower and I was going to make my client take a picture of me in them as we were leaving.....). The landscaping was perfect as and we started out of the house to look at it more a huge dog came at us growling and bearing teeth and we ran inside the house. He kept us trapped there for several minutes. So my clients ask what do we do now... and my -I-am-so-done-with-this-day attitude says, "Not sure they didn't teach that in real estate 101." But I ran out the backdoor with my heels in hand ready to whack that dog if he caught me. So I made it to the car and drove closer to the back door and went back in and my clients went into the car. I then had to go out the front door and relock it and that is where the dog was. So I went charging him with my heels in hand and must have looked like a psycho and he didn't charge me. I made it to the car safely.

We finished up the houses but I still felt like I must rethink my perfect career choice in life. LOL Maybe I should work on the DCL?

Sorry for laughing at your note - I was picturing it happening and I just started laughing
