I have never been to Key West. Well let me rephrase that. DH and I have never been. When I went it was with my parents and I did not do much. What is this about Bland Girraffe and fz chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stik. This sounds so good. And about the trolley does anybody know how much that costs. We want to go to the southern most point and DH would really like to see a light house.

We did the Trolley last year. I don't remember the cost off the top of my head, but for DW, DS and myself, I think it was $65.

The Trolley is a lot better than the train because it stops in more spots. You can get off when you want and within 20 minutes, another one will be there to pick you up. If they are full and you are waiting, they will call another trolley.

We got off and did the light house (cost extra - don't remember the price, but they do give AAA discounts. Ask ahead of time. Also, might have some discounts online) and Southern Most Point. They also give you some history of the island.

You could walk to both of those sites you are considering. Not sure exactly how far it is, but I think if you go right down Duvall street and hang a right, you'd be at Southern Most Point. I believe the Lighthouse is on the way. Check out a map. Maybe someone else on the thread knows the exact distance.

Scouter Rose, glad to see you back with us. I was wondering what happened to you lately. Don't get lost in the real world, escape here with us. :)

Is there a real world. :confused3 I must have forgotten all about it. I have been so busy with DIS that I have lost track of time, days and now worlds. :lmao:

I would be one of those who WOULD mind terribly if this cruise turns into another Eastern cruise! That happened the last time we cruised! I would like to see Key West and want to go back to Grand Cayman. So I am praying for a Western!! :thumbsup2

Cass,

I'm not hoping for a reroute. We got lucky in January and were able to get to all the ports. The seas were like glass when we got into the Caribbean (rough the first night sailing around FL). Two years earlier, on the same week we went this year, they missed not only Grand Cayman, but also Castaway (we weren't on that cruise, we did the Eastern the week after). That would have been awful. I believe the week after ours wasn't that great either. I've heard for better sea conditions, the Eastern is better in the Winter and the Caribbean is better in the Summer. Not sure what Fall is like.

I'm just happy we're on the boat - no matter where we go.

I'm like Cheryl, our son is out of school 2 of the days that week so it is the week we chose to sail. We didn't choose the itinerary, just the time.

I will be perfectly happy going to KW, GC and Coz again. There is so much for us to do that we didn't do last time (part of the reasoning I used with Suz to get her to agree to go. BTW, she told me last weekend she is very excited about this cruise now. What a difference 6-7 weeks makes), that we would have a great time. If we missed the Western, I'm sure we'd book another one just to get back.

Cass is keeping count for us there. We are at 137 days! :cool1:

To think, Chris can book Palo and excursions in 32 days. 47 for most of us and 62 for the rest. It's coming on quickly. And my busy time is July and August.

Jeff=I guess you are right. Everyone is seeing the movie. I'm here alone with the 3 kids since Scott is with Missy, Mike and their boys watching the movie.

Are they back yet?

I want details, but no spoilers. Is it as good as the hype?

They are talking about $200M+ this weekend for the movie.

I'm heading to bed. You west coasters can keep this going until the UKers get up. It's almost 5 a.m. there. Might see Karen on soon if she didn't sleep.

Ok Jeff I am begining to realize you are the go to man on this thread. That is great information thank you. Where can I find a map. If it is all walking distance I would rather do that because it will wear the kids out more. But now I want to try that blonde girraffe place. Is it walking distance also.

Blonde Giraffe is only a couple blocks from the dock if I'm not mistaken. Haven't been to that one (we did Kermit's last time, but will do BG this time).

Let me find a map or at least an info link.

So what is Kermit's? Thank you for all of your help. Another question for you. Since we have not been before how can we find out what excursions there are so we can get that planned?

Here's some links I came across.

This one has a ton of webcams on it:

http://www.floridakeyswebcams.tv/

Here are two general info links:

http://www.keywest.com/

http://www.fla-keys.com/keywest/

Here is a map of Key West (hope this link works):

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=key+west&ie=UTF8&ll=24.553486,-81.801066&spn=0.0178,0.028925&z=15&om=1

The lighthouse would be one block to your right as you are walking towards the southern most point. It is between Olivia (you'll hit this street first) and Truman on Whitehead. I recommend you do that first, before SMP. You don't want to go up the light house after you walked all the way down. Just my opinion. BTW, the walk from the ship to SMP should be a tad over 1 mile.

Here is a link to the Blond Giraffe:

http://www.blondgiraffe.com/

If you are interested, here is the link to the Trolley:

http://www.trolleytours.com/keywest.htm

Lastly, just so you and everyone else knows, the Southern Most Point actually is NOT the furthest south. The actual Southern Most Point is inside the Truman Annex. You could get further south if you go inside Fort Zachary Taylor and go to the beach there. And even that isn't the southern most point. It is actually a privately owned island south of Key West which you can not go on.

Hope this info helps.

Kermits is just another Key Lime Pie place.

As for excursions, you can check out the ones DCL has on their website.

But most people do Key West on their own. I'd look at the Key West info sites to see what is out there. We did the Trolley on our own and saved over what DCL would have charged.

O.K. it is now after 11:00, I'm really go to bed now.

Talk to you all (y'all for Paige) in the morning.

This is all very helpfull thank you. I don't have a lot of say for most of the stuff at Key West. DH is a big history buff, and loves lighthouses. So he has asked for the light house and any history. (by the way history bores me). My mother wants a pic of all of us at the SMP. I am all about eating and shopping. I will check out all of the links. Thanks again:hug:

For all of you who have been to Key West before I would apprecate recomendations on what to do. Has anyone done the Sunset at Mallory Square and if so is it worth missing dinner on the ship for?

Carrie,

Thanks for the support! I'm sorry you've had some rough months too

Jeff,

I would be happy just to be on the Magic, that's what I said last time and I mean it. BUT I really would like to finally go to the Western on the Magic. Our one and only non-Disney cruise was a Western and we got to see GC and Coz and we would really like to get back there!

Sorry, the 137 was for me....we leave on October 9th. I have a Disney Countdown on my computer, which I check every day :)

I have had this timer ever since 1999 and used it on all my trips. If you don't already have it, I suggest you go get it, it's awesome!

http://pscalculator.net/pswebtools.shtml#t001

It's called DisneyTime (top of the page)

I am off to bed. Have the day off tomorrow so I am running around like crazy but I will check in when I can. Thanks again Jeff for all the help tonight. :cool1:

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days...been a crappy 2 days. Had to go to the dentist, get two cavities filled, one was really deep...if I feel any pain then I have to get a root canal :headache: Took Kira last night to get her 6 month shots, which was hard enough to watch and now she has a cold. I was up all night with her. It's the first time she's been sick, OMG is it ever hard to see her go through any kind of pain! :sad2: And then, as if we needed more bad news, turns out that house I really LOVED, the one we thought we got....well at the very last minute they sold it to someone else! :sad1:

I've packed up most of the house and now we don't have a place to move to! It's been one of those weeks!

Feel like crawling under the covers and not coming out for a month! :guilty:

I know it's not the end of the world and I guess it wasn't meant to be but lately it just seems like one thing after another ya know? I don't want to bore you all with the sordid details but it's been a tough few months...

IS IT OCTOBER YET????????? I wanna teleport to October ok? :teleport:

I need some chocolate croissants....
and 20 minutes in a hot tub...
and some chicken strips....
and I am looking forward to finally getting some sleep!
137 more days...137 more days....137 more days...137 more days...

Oh Cass, I cant believe they've done it to you again...whast lousy people they must be to dump on you twice:mad:

Sorry to hear your munchkin is poorly. Hopefully its just a 24 hour thing after the shots and she's getting better already:goodvibes

Theres nothing worse than seeing your child sick or hurt - it breaks your heart doesnt it:sad1:

Nancy,

I see you haven't answered Karen's question yet. ;)

Guess I'll have to do it.

A "Stud" refers to a male animal, like horses or bull, that are used for their breeding ability. They usually take the best "built" males for this purpose.

Here it is a slang term for a guy that is usually very good looking and very well put together. He is considered a "stud" because all the women want him, or so he thinks.

So I was being funny and claiming the Studley Castle was named after me because I'm a "Stud". NOT - far from it. :scared1:

Hope that explains it. If not, hopefully one of the other USers can help out.

Got it:rotfl: - I have heard of a stud farm - just didnt connect the 2 at the time.

Wow, quiet night tonight. What's everyone up to? :confused3

Are you all out at the POTC3 premier at 8:00? pirate:

The polls are still open if you want to vote on the wristbands. Right now the Neon Green with no darkening is winning big as is the "Konked Kruisers - Oct '07". The count is currently at 63 bands with 15 of 17 saying they want some. Still waiting to hear from 8 DISers (regular - people who have posted in the last 4-6 months).

As for the DIS meet time, by the Mickey Pool before the life boat drill is ahead with 8 votes and Sunday morning pulling into Key West is 2nd with 4 votes. Sail Away has 3 and Terminal has 1.

From my estimates of the people who post here and whose families are coming with them, we should make up about 4% of the cruisers on this voyage, given that they are full at 2,800 people.

Not much else to update you with.

I'll check back later to see if anyone is here playing.

4% eh? - not bad:cool1: - I bet we'll all have more fun than anyone else onboard with such a great bunch of people to keep bumping into.

I would be one of those who WOULD mind terribly if this cruise turns into another Eastern cruise! That happened the last time we cruised! I would like to see Key West and want to go back to Grand Cayman. So I am praying for a Western!! :thumbsup2

Yep!- me too... I want western, cant face researching eastern too:eek:

Rub it in why dont ya:rolleyes:

I'm heading to bed. You west coasters can keep this going until the UKers get up. It's almost 5 a.m. there. Might see Karen on soon if she didn't sleep.

I was up, just not dissing til now, so I guess I'm alone til someone else wakes up. I've been labelling all Ellis' stuff ready for his big Beaver day trip on Saturday.

So Lindy, I have weighed myself... next Friday I'll let you know how many pounds I have lost. No alcohol for me all week:scared1: and only eating out once next week. I have all day saturday to myself so i'll squeeze and extra gym session in. I'm off to spin class and then aqua today and I have salad in the fridge for lunch:thumbsup2

With 2 holidays before the cruise and my birthdy I am not expecting miracles, but if I can lose some now then I have a bit to play with on the first 2 holidays then 6 weeks before the cruise to lose a bit more. I need to lose a stone. Doesnt sound much I know, but I already have skimmed milk, no sugar, low fat foods etc so there nothing I can cut out except alcohol and eating out less. Its gonna be a hard few months:scared1:

Its lovely and peaceful this morning.... sitting in the conservatory (or should I call it the box and storage centre:rolleyes: ) listening to the birds. The only other noise is my keyboard tapping away.

Bliss!:cloud9:

In 30 minutes it will be a different story:rotfl:
