This is Robin...

I am finally able to get on here for a few minutes. Thanks so much for the sprinkles.

Our next few days are going to be rough. Mike's dad has emphyzema and has to carry oxygen at all times. He walks about 20 steps and has to sit down. So, I think we're going to have to take him to and from the hospital because he's not going to be able to walk from the parking garage to his mom's room. (Not to mention changing his oxygen tanks.)

When he gets upset or anxious he gets worse, so this week is going to be tough. We're hoping he doesn't end up in the emergency room. (At least we'll be at the hospital.)

I had a funny story to tell everyone, but I'll tell it to you after all of this is over. Now doesn't seem to be the time.

Once again... Thanks for the Pixie Dust.

Robin

Scott and I are thinking of you and your family. Godd luck the next couple of days!!pixiedust:

OH MY GOSH!!!

Cass,

Did you take those pics of the rockies? I haven't been able to catch up on the boards, but those pics of the rockies are beautiful. Makes me want to get the heck out of Ohio.

Beautiful Cass!

O.K. Here's my geography lesson on Racine.

Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan.
Main ethnic groups: German, Italian, Danish, and Armenian

As previously mentioned we are famous for S.C. Johnson--both my parents worked there. S.C. Johnson is a family company--in its 5th generation. They brought in Frank Lloyd Wright to design a family home and the company's headquarters--both of which are amazing!

Also we have Insinkerator (garbage disposals) and Case Tractors.

We are the hometown of William Horlick who invented Malted Milk Tablets. I went to a high school named after him!! People from out of town always laughed when I said I attend hor-lick! :scared1:

The thing we are most famous for though is our Danish bakeries. We are a town of 80,000 people and we have a ton of bakeries. Their most famous product??? Danish Kringle--a racetrack shaped pastry that you can get with all kinds of fillings. The most poplular being apple, pecan & raspberry. I am most partial to the apricot, almond, or pumpkin. They are a big treat to out-of-towners, but I think most people who live here are pretty sick of kringle because you get it everywhere. (very fattening, as well!!)

Racine has always been an industrial town, but we are currently going through a pretty nice Renaissance in our downtown. We have a beautiful marina which is filled with gorgeous boats. (Most of them have Illinois or FIB owners :rolleyes1 ) We have 17 art galleries in a four-block section of town and have I ever mentioned that there is a really cute wine store there with especially friendly help??? :thumbsup2

And don't forget about a cute little Winery (Wine all you want...I love it!!):yay:

Wow, I sure messed up the multi-quoting on that one didn't I.

Cass, Those truly are beautiful pictures. Do you and Rob speak with a French accent? Do you speak french?

No, I didn't take those pics! I actually haven't been to the mountains in a few years. When Kira is a little older we will be taking her to all those places from the pics, it's only about 1-2 hours from Calgary, so good day trips for her!

Nancy, I am the only one in my family that speaks french, despite all of my siblings being raised in Montreal. I used to be completely bilingual but I haven't spoke french in almost 17 years, so I've lost a lot but can still get by quite well. I plan on putting Kira in french school so she can have a second language so I will pick up a lot of my french again when she's in school and I get to help her with her homework :) Rob would love to speak french but alas, cannot :sad2: He tries really hard, but I have to laugh sometimes  He's really cute though when he tries :goodvibes I've taught him a few key phrases that we always say to each other (in fact we have some french inscribed on our wedding rings) but it's not an easy language to learn!

Evening everyone,

I just saw on our Local News tonight that it is taking over 12 weeks for passports now.

Kristin went for her's on March 13th and still doesn't have it. It's been 10 weeks tomorrow for her. The other kids went for theirs after her and Jesse went sometime in April for his.

None of them have their passports yet. I'm so glad they went early. At least we still have 5 months to get them yet.

Good thing they aren't required for this trip, but it sure would be nice to have them anyway.

Ok I have been trying to figure it out what is MNSSHP? Is is something to do with a ship?:confused3

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

It is at the Magic Kingdom. You need a special ticket for it. Everyone dresses up (Characters included) and they have special fireworks and parade and pass out candy. I think it pretty good and we would have gone if they had it on the 19th this year. However, Disney chose not to have it that Friday. The only one in they AREN'T doint it in October. :sad2:

If it isn't too much to ask, I am being selfish and asking for a few little thoughts and prayers myself this morning. I'm going for my 6 month cancer check up today...in about 1/2 hour. Wish me luck....please!

Nancy, I am praying for you. Please let me know how it goes. My mother had cancer when she was very young. She is a survivor of many things. If she can make it I know you can.

Mike and Robin--prayers coming your way. Please let us know how your folks fare through this ordeal.

Nancy--prayers to you, too. As I said to Mike and Robin, let us know your results and how you're doing.

Brenda--I haven't forgotten about you either! Have a great trip!

Cass--beautiful pics! I can speak a little french, too....well, it's a Cajun french---and most of it is curse words.:lmao:

As for my hometown, Delcambre, LA. Not much to report--about 2000 folks reside there. Before Hurricane Rita, the population was about 3000-3500. It is a small shrimping community about 15-20 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, Rob and I were able to understand every word uttered by the uncle in "The Water Boy.":rotfl: Some of the best food you will ever taste is in the nearest larger town--Lafayette, LA! It's Cajun Country, baby!:joker:

We have all five of ours, thank goodness. But we were told by our TA that they were required for this trip. Did I miss something. Now we just need to go get state ids for the kids this summer and that will all be taken care of.

I was born here.....

History of Dewsbury
The town's earliest roots date back to 627 AD when St Paulinus founded a Christian settlement on the banks of the River Calder. In the 1830s Patrick Bronté, father of the famous sisters, was curate in the town. Dewsbury developed rapidly in the industrial era with the expansion in textile manufacturing, particularly the innovative recycling of old cloth into new products such as blankets, rugs and heavy outerwear known as the shoddy trade.

Betty Boothroyd, a national figure in politics, was born in Dewsbury. She began a career as a dancer, became an MP and an MEP, and rose to become the first ever female Speaker of the House of Commons. She retired as Speaker in 2000.

This Lady is the women a lot of you yanks may have seen her on TV saying "order, order" when it kicks off in parliament....BUT to me she was one of my mothers closest friends when they started in the mills aged 14 and she and my mam would travel on the bus my dad drove for FREE.....There was no mention of fare dogging in her best selling autobiography either....

Dewsbury is also known as......where the 7/7 bombers came from, where we took peter sutcliffe (the Yorkshire ripper)to court for the first time (i was there shouting Hang the bad man:rolleyes1)and where 28 out 30 kids in the class is Asian....Hence i no longer live there....:sad2:
