Does anyone know why so many resorts are sold out for the week of October 20, 2016? I know it's Halloween time – but I thought October would have lower crowd levels than Easter week. Is there something special going on other then Halloween and food and wine festival– is it usually this hard to find a resort room in the Magic Kingdom area in October? Just curious-- thanks so much for any info – Jill

Gartner IT Symposium is October 16-20 and has some pretty intense room blocks at all of the Deluxe resorts. People stay after the conference as well.

Thanks so much for the info---it was so strange that all the deluxe resorts were full during that time. Are the blocks of rooms reserved for a certain amount of time and then released? Or are the resorts really sold out for that time period?

They will be sold out. Gartner is a huge conference.

I was wondering the same thing! Trying to book a vacation for the 7th-11th of October and only 3 resorts show availability online. Would calling yield any better results? Is there a history of rooms being released post-summer? I've never had this problem before...

They are not holding any rooms. What is online is what is available. If people cancel, those rooms will become available.

You are late for October, which is also very busy this year.
What you see is all that is left

I would call. The room I wanted wasn't available the first night online so I booked an extra night at the end of our stay instead. However, we decided that wouldn't work with our schedules so when I called to have them cancel the last night, I just mentioned our original dates but they weren't available. She said well let's look and bam, she got it for me. So evidently what they see is NOT what's online.

This! There were so many more options available when I called... thanks so much for the tip!

I saw a post a few weeks from someone who did have success calling when no availability showed online. It's probably worth the call.

People finally caught on to the amazingness that is a Disney vacation in October. It wasn't too long ago that October was the slower season and you could enjoy lower crowds and nicer weather. My husband and I have gone every October since 2012 and each year it seems a bit more crowded.

It seems that is the case! We go every spring and fall, but haven't been in October since 2014. I'm a bit concerned that things are going to be CRAZY. Hope not, but it sure is looking that way. I've been booked (DVC rental) since Jan. so don't have the room availability issues that some are dealing with, but I am amazed at the limited ADR availability at places that usually don't require booking at 180 days. We'll have good touring plans so it will all be fine, but I do prefer the days where crowds were lighter in October.

I think as long as you have a plan you will be completely fine! Even with the crowds it's still our favorite time to go. We're going in 15 days (eeek!) and are prepared for the crowds and heat. It's the first time we'll have gone in the summer since we lived in Florida 5 years ago. I'm sure at the end of our trip I will still be saying October is our favorite time to go!

And almost all schools in the south (maybe beyond I don't know) have a week long fall break in October.
Notice how Disney does not have their free dining promotion for October? The reason is the rooms are booked without the promotion.

We have been going to Disney every October since 2008 and I agree it's gotten busier each year. I do love October - great weather, and food and wine!!!

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about booking for the 3rd week in October! Will the parks be Christmas break-like busy?
