October 2015 Car Rental Watch

Woo Hoo!! Dollar rental for 10/1-10/10 in Mid-size is $143.06 total from Wyndham location. A full size is $152.66. This is just with their city special rate. So far this is the best rate I have found.

no drop for me yesterday but today is another story!

via carrental savers (now i can dump my alamo brazil yea!)

budget 7 days starting 10/7, no discount $114.xx all taxes/fees for intermediate

with USSAA (free driver), $119 for full size:flower1:

what i found interesting is a $35 coupon popped up automatically via this webstite. Haven't been able to find more than a $20 coupon to jive with the USSA code (budget is sticklers for coupon codes 'matching' the corporate code unlike alamo where rarely questioned).

appreciate that we are able to link the budget fastbreak # to the reservation & scoot over to garage kiosk.

Just checked Carrentalsavers, and budget for my trip is 111.00 total...never heard of this site before...can anyone verify its legitimacy before i use it (and cancel my great dollar rate , or so I thought).
Also can I apply my fastbreak number to it, and bypass the line in terminal?
Thanks everyone

Its perfectly legitimate :thumbsup2 . We have used it on several occasions before with no issues.

We have a Budget Fastbreak membership, so we added my DH's Rapidrez number to our carrentalsavers.com reservation. By doing so, we can log in to his account on Budget and see the carrentalsavers.com booking. *And* we can now skip the counter and go straight to the garage.

Hey Janet,

Great rates!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Would you mind sharing the $35 coupon code? I am going to try and see if I can use it with my current reservation (which would drop me down another $5 from what I have now).

Thanks bunches! :goodvibes

Thats what i was hoping for Gina gina. Booking now, will let you know how it goes!

7 passenger mini-van: P/U & D/O @ SFB, 9/27 thru 10/4 thru Alamo using insider log on and $30 off (AD2338fdf) for $192.58!!

Needing a minivan is killing me... no deals :(

I got the same deal as mommy2aprince;

If you can use a 7 passenger go to the Alamo site, are you an insider member? Join!
Use the code AD2338fdf
and click on the find a Deal tab
I just hit this!
1 week, $175 2 hrs @ $11.57 an hour, total with $30 off was $231.57

I am jealous!! Prices in FLL are still up high for 10/6-14th I will take any downward movement at this point.

Ok, it took a couple tries to get my Fastbreak number to go through, but I got Oct 6-12 Midsize for 116.00 Total with taxes and fees. 70 bucks off my previous best with Dollar (I'm also an express member, skipping the counter in Orlando is a MUST DO)
THANK YOU GINA GINA I owe you !

Can you explain in more detail how to get this rate? I am an Alamo insider and I sign in, see the deals tab on the top of the page and click on it but there is no where to input the coupon code when I do a search for prices through that tab. Am I missing something?

what's weird is i didn't input it at all on carrentalsavers (CRS) website.

always just price out the trip without any affiliations or codes to get a base price ($114 in this instance, a $25 coupon discount magically populated ).

then, i select the various group rates to see what they produce. Budget is one of the few that permits a spouse/family member to drive w/USSA membership. No costcos near us but believe they still offer extra driver too.

Anyway, the CRS USSA section mentioned a $20 off coupon (the same as I can replicate by going thru the Budget website). What surprised me was on the page where you select the cars, the rates came up with the $35 coupon code automatically. I pounced lol Did google $35 coupon for budget & searched USSA site & even flyertalk, no hits for the coupon code, sorry.

Typically, i can beat CRS by mixing & matching separates (corporate IDs & coupons) on other sites, especially Alamo. Was surprised to see the rate drop more on the car selection site and that 3 classes ranging from intermediate up to fullsize were all priced the same for my dates.

I'd be careful if using a corporate ID and whatever coupon you might find via a search. Budget has a warning on the site that any coupons will be applied when picking up the vehicle if applicable to that reservation. As stated above, i've been challenged in the past, but was able to substitue a lesser $ coupon that was found on their AARP link after complainiing to supervisor in the garage kiosk.

priceline? figure out what the fees typically are for a minivan rental to give you an idea of what you are comfortable bidding.

last time i needed one had good luck & got brand new one (January marathon @ WDW no less) about a month out in area of $13 a day (approx $160 for a week).

sweet!
Alamo Dolphin, mid-size using brazil 7016427 & visa coupon AD2338fdf, 10/8-18 (actually staying 10/7-19, but don't want/need a car the entire time)
....drumroll............
less than $18 a day at $178.88 total for 10 days :cool1:

We are a fast break member also. Going 10/28-11/4. Can you tell me what i need to do in order to see those rates? I am still seeing rates near $200. Thanks :)

We've been car shopping and doing a lot of test driving lately. I'd personally put a Rav 4 and a Santa Fe in the same class.

ETA: And I checked my rates for October 15-24, and they're still over $100 more than the rate I booked at in July.

I think a Santa Fe holds more luggage....atleast that's the differences - I would get the cheaper/bigger option for sure!

That price is kinda high for just a standard SUV.

The Santa Fe is slightly wider, longer and has a more powerful engine with a better transmission.
iOverall a better ride.

Try Dollar and Thrifty, using the code FIX09 or FIXLO, one try I had to call to use for Sanford, the other it went in okay. $139 for CRV, $149 for Chev Equanox. With the Equanox, a one week two hrs it came to $231.07 total all fees. I think dollar was 800-800-4000. That's much more then the Malibu I held a long time ago.

Thanks for the responses! The only thing I know about SUVs is I drive one at home, a Honda Pilot. I'm 6 feet tall so I need the extra room or I'm driving with knees smashed into the steering wheel or my head rubbing the top of the car, sometimes both. :sad2:

I keep checking with different codes and different companies, I just can't get that price down any lower. I'm flying into Tampa on Monday, 10/26 and picking it up at 2:30PM and returning it at Tampa, Wednesday, 11/4 at 4:30PM - 9 days and 3 hours (because of the time changeover the weekend).

I can save a little bit more at Dollar but I would have to pre-pay. I don't want to do that in case I have to cancel. Unless you can get a full refund? I'll have to read up on that.
I'm not giving up yet, I'm hopeful and if it doesn't ... at least I'll be on vacation!

There's nothing special you need to do......the rates we have found are the default rates using carrentalsavers.com . Pop your pick up dates and times in, and that's it :thumbsup2 .

With a later October/early November rental, you're probably just a couple of weeks off the significant drop in prices that us earlier October folks are just seeing now. Hopefully your savings will be showing up soon :goodvibes .
