October 2014 availability

Hi- I am new to the DIS boards! We are planning our first family trip (I've been to WDW 4 times, but it will be a first for everyone else) for October 2014 to celebrate my DD's 5th birthday. I am searching for rooms and trying to decide between a deluxe room and an AoA suite. There will be 4 of us, me, DH, DD(5) and DS(will be 2 weeks shy of his third birthday).

The majority of the deluxe resorts I am searching are showing no availability for that time. They can't be booked this far in advance, right? I'm really just trying to put together pricing options so my husband and I can get an idea of what we will spend. We are planning on driving, and are specifically looking at October 17-24 (although at this point we have some flexibility, as long is it before Nov 3 so my son is still free!).

Also- would you rather stay deluxe or in an AoA suite? Any recs on a good deluxe hotel for kids aged 5 and almost 3? I am so excited, it's been over 20 years since my last WDW trip and I can't wait to get back!

There is huge IT convention in WDW every October. I don't know what week it is in 2014, but they do block a lot of rooms for it. This year it's Oct 6. Last year it was Oct 20. It's very hard to get a room at any deluxe when this convention is going on.

We had to move our vacation last Oct from 20th to the 1st. The only deluxe resorts available during this convention were OKW or SSR. I am a late planner though. I didn't start planning until the AP discounts came out in August. I think if your willing to pay rack rate it's a little easier.

The 24th is the start of a big doctor convention too (the two Disney resorts that are available for booking are CSR and BC). It's typically a 50K MD event and I would guess more since it's Disney and people want to bring their families (which is what one of the physicians I work for is doing). I don't know if that affects your search. The convention itself is about 12 miles away from WDW, so dont' let it scare you too much, just an FYI.

Also, for my April trip, there were no standard view rooms available at the resort I wanted when 2014 pricing came out. I checked every day and about 14-18 days later, it popped up and I got the resort and room I wanted. Now just patiently waiting for discounts.

That's not good- I've tried adjusting weeks but the 3 weeks I want are still showing no availability at any deluxe resorts but AKL! I'm hoping it is just a case of rooms being blocked- maybe until they determine a convention date? I suppose I'll have to be patient. Now I am debating booking a room at AKL just to have one and changing if something else becomes available.

We were looking for fall dates for september 2014 and there was nothing even the last week of September leading into the first week of October....so we switched to earlier in september!

Have any of you tried calling? Because I have noticed lately that the amazing Disney website has been showing NO AVAILABILTY for lots of dates from 3 week out to a year out.

I had been trying to price out different options for my trip next month and was showing no availability for any resort (this has gone on for a few days) so finally today I called and got the room I want with the discount I wanted.

Oh, darn! I figured that maybe the system was just malfunctioning.

Also, if one day in that set is unavailable, it will just come back as totally unavailable. I was just looking at Oct 15-23 and Grand Floridian was pretty open. It was the only one I looked at though as I already have a trip booked for POFQ. You will have very limited availability at any of the Epcot resorts because of Food and Wine (people go yearly and book as soon as it opens up).

I just pulled up your dates and there is a Garden Wing Standard view at the Contemporary as well as many other rooms at the other deluxe resorts. Not sure what was happening for you unless you were checking when they were updating the system.

I don't know if you still need help with this, but when I called Disney to see if I could get a price quote for our possible trip in December 2014, they said they can only book 499 days prior to the trip.I think they said they could only book flights 331 days prior to the trip as well, but I'm not entirely sure about that number.

The OP is looking for a trip in October which is available for booking. I have a trip booked for October 15-23 2014 and have had it since the day packages were released.

Interesting amos07, I tried multiple times the past 2 days and have nothing but AKL. I'll try again tonight- worst case I will call. I was just creating a spreadsheet so we could decide where we wanted to be- sounds like we better hurry up and decide now! Everything I read says October is a slow time- guess not.

I think a lot of people book in hopes of free dining type discounts for fall and then wait to see whether they end up getting it or not. If you want some kind of Garden Wing or Standard room I would definitely book as soon as possible as those tend to fill up the fastest usually.

I was pricing out the Swan and Dolphin for Oct 2014 and I noticed the prices were about 100.00 dollars more a night the week of Oct 5. I have a feeling that may be the week of the convention for next year.
