October 2013!

My kids don't know yet about our trip, and they've never been to WDW. A few months ago when our trip was starting to become a reality, I started floating out the idea, like when I'd see the Disney World commercial I'd ask my DD, "Would you ever like to go there? Meet the princesses?" But my Nick Jr. obsessed daughter, who only knew about Disney because there's a channel, said "No, I want to go to Nick Junior World!" *sigh* So I started pushing Disney. We've been going through the princess movies, watching Disney Jr. DD and my toddler DS are now hooked on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Claire had a Toy Story marathon this rainy afternoon. And FINALLY, today, out of the blue when talking about a completely unrelated trip to a local iron mine this summer, DD said, "I want to go to Disney World!" Wahooo!!

Crowds are moderate, MK is usually busier on Saturdays, but overall, it is a great time to visit. The weather can be all over the place (just like at home ), so you have to pack for all temps, but we have had little to no rain the last 5 Octobers. :goodvibes The airfare for our dates has jumped significantly, so if you want to fly, book as soon as you see them at a decent price. We are hoping to get free dining, but going regardless. :goodvibes

Thanks for the info! We booked our flights last night :cool1: for Oct 15 - 22 due to the low fare and that week worked better for our friends work schedule.

Had no idea this thread existed! So excited to find it! We are planning our first ever trip for Oct 19-26. Very excited. It will be Dh and I, our 5 children, and my parents. We rented a pool home, since it would be so much cheaper for a group our size.

Can't wait!! :cool1:

I am staying at POFQ for two weeks starting on Oct 18th with two children 9 and 14. We don't fly in till very late about 10pm and unless we sleep on the flights we will have been up for nearly 24 hours ! I am planning to chill out and get my bearings on the first day.

This is my first trip to the USA, I have done Euro Disney twice but the two cannot be compared I have been told!

Any tips from anyone I would be very grateful! So far I have a res for 8.05 one morning for Crystal Palace as I wanted to do at least one Character meal.

I am soooo excited and I have not told my youngest yet! :dance3:

POFQ, October 19-26, we are booked!!! Hope we can keep FQ if/when a discount comes out, POR is our second choice.

:yay:

Any suggestions on a building? Would like to be near the food court and bus stop and do not want to face a pool.

Building 4 at POFQ sounds perfect for you!
Have fun!! :)

:

Take the boat to Downtown Disney if you are not too tired on your first day (it's nice and relaxing) or walk to POR and check out their pool and food court for something different!

Have fun! We love POFQ!

:flower3:So very excited. Just booked our flight for October 30th to Disney for me and my daughter Hailey's Senior Trip. Can't wait!! I decided to take a senior trip with each one of my kids to a place of their choosing (within reason) in the fall of their Senior year of high school. It gives us time to spend with just me and her before the hussle and bussle of her senior year really takes hold. My son and I did it also and we had a GREAT time - no stress - no one to answer to and we parked from sun up to sun down. Hailey picked Disney also, so we are booked in the beach club villas and today I booked the flight!!! So excited and can't wait - but it is bittersweet because each day we wish for our Disney trip is one day closer to leaving for college:sad1::hourglass

What a GREAT idea!!! I am totally stealing that when the time comes!:thumbsup2

I just saw that Kona Cafe will make vegan tonga toast, so I went ahead and made an early breakfast reservation for there on one of our EPCOT days. We did that once during our last trip (but at 'Ohana) and it was nice to just walk over to the TTC and get on the EPCOT monorail.

Sounds like there are several of us Poly bound at that time! We'll be there 5th through 11th. :thumbsup2

We are flying in on the 5th in the afternoon and staying off property for a night...hubby is using hotel points. It's our 10th anniversary trip! I hope it is nice and quet at the poly!

What type of room did you book?

Got all my dining ressies made and was able to get most of the times I wanted. And on the ones I didn't get my first choice of times, I actually liked the times I reserved even better!! And even got the tickets for the MNSSHP on the night I wanted!! I am set now.... :cool1:

Can I get some opinions on MNSSHP? And also some thoughts on what day to go would be better, October 31st or November 1st?

It's actually kinda late since I already got the tickets for November 1st.

My thoughts were that October 31st would be the most crowded since it is actually Halloween, but it would have been really awesome for my daughter (4) to actually trick or treat at Disney on Halloween.

I picked November 1st because of that very reason, but know thinking about it, since it's the last party is it going to be crowded, or since it is the last one is it going to be as good as the other ones? My thoughts on it not being on Halloween, she probably won't even realize, heck I may not either since I'll be so caught up in the moment anyways, and when we trick or treat at home it never actually falls on Halloween. Last year we actually had snow on Halloween and they didn't hold trick or treat till about a week later.

Either way I think she'll have a blast, and probably won't even care about the trick or treat aspect anyways. Still interesting to know what everyone thinks. :yay::dumbo:

Yay, congrats!!

Cross posted: This is our first trip to Disney World. We have a 6 yr old girl and 2 yr old boy. We have reservations at Akershus and Biergarten but I'm wondering if we should cancel and just plan to eat at the food and wine festival? Any advice is appreciated.

I suggest keeping your reservations. While the food and wine festival is fun, it's not a great way to expect to feed young kids. The festival has a ton of carts, each serving very small plates of food. I don't recall any of the food being targeted for kids. The lines are long, and while a pattern of eating a few bites at one place... walking to another line to wait for a few more bites...etc. is a fun experience for an adult, I could not imagine dragging our kids through it -especially when they are hungry and tired.

Both Akershus and Biergarten are great restaurants for kids. At both, you and your kids will be able to sit at a table, eat a meal, and be entertained at the same time.

That is good advice, thank you! You have me thinking... Is the food at F&W booths free?

Not free. Prices range a lot for items. Last year, typically anywhere between $3.25 and $12.25 a plate. If you have the dining plan, some of the plates qualify as a "snack."
