October 2013!

Wow, I'm late getting into this. We're going to WDW October 19-27, staying at POR. First time at WDW since 2000, so it will be largely a new experience - we will have our 14-YO son (he was almost 2 YO in 2000) and our 4-YO son (he'll be about 4 1/2 in October). I will have my 50th birthday while we're there, though it's not the reason for the trip - it just worked out that way. But it does allow me to have a certain "I'm entitled to this trip and all that it costs" attitude, which ain't bad.

Two questions I might as well ask here:

1) So are people getting free dining pin codes sent to them for October, even though free dining was only announced for September? I didn't book a dining plan, as I just can't see us spending that much time sitting and eating when we could be doing attractions. I've only booked a few full service dinners, all our breakfasts will be quick and in the room.

2) Does the Food & Wine thingy have any NEGATIVE effect on visits to Epcot while it's on? I hope not, as I already feel like the Halloween party is messing with things enough.

No free dining pin for us.... but we are going on the Columbus Day weekend, so probably no discount anyways.

I've heard it's best to avoid Epcot on the weekends if possible during the F&W Festival because it will become very crowded in WorldShowcase very quickly. I guess that's the one downside.

Supposedly they may still send out additional pins for 2013. It's possible Columbus Day weekend is blacked out - somewhere I saw Oct. 18 through 31st or something like that listed as dates they're sending pins out for (plus November and December dates). Our dates fall right in there, so I'm hoping to get one too, but not holding my breath.

One thing an agent Disney.com told me when I called inquiring, was that it can help to clean up your entry in their database. I mean for THEM to, that is. She found an old account of mine (not used since 2000) and a couple of other logins with my name and address from visits to the site where I guess I registered but didn't book anything. So now there's just the one entry with my current booking. She said this makes it clear to whoever sends these out that there's just one entry for me and that's who I am. Whatever - you can call Disney and tell them you're hoping to get a pin, and they can check this for you. It's also POSSIBLE they have one assigned for you that hasn't been sent out yet. Apparently this happens. So call and at least get in a good position to get one. Not sure about the Columbus Day dates though, as I said.

Interesting.....I've never heard about the database thing. That's good to know. Thanks for the info.

I know I can't use the pin for our October trip, but we are also going again in December. I would really love free dining for my December trip. I've phoned Disney on two separate occasions asking about a pin maybe attached to my name. Honestly, I've been made to feel bad or embarrassed for asking.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear you've been made to feel bad for asking - that's totally not fair, since they've set it up so that people want to know if there might be a pin for them. IMO, the whole thing doesn't seem like it's been handled very well. I like the idea of the surprise pins, but the whole thing seems so unspecific.

Anyway, I guess all we can do is wish each other good luck!

We just booked a bounceback this week to return in Otctober! We will be returning to the Poly, CL. We don't have exact dates though, as I am waiting to see what the airfare deals will look like. We are booked 10/20-11/2 but I plan on dropping 3 nights. Which ones will depend on JetBlue's fares.

What is a Bounceback exactly? Is it a special offer from Disney if you return within a certain timeframe?

It's a special offer that you may or may not receive with your room package when you check in. It's an incentive to book another vacation before you check out. You have to book it before you checkout of your room. Typically you will find discounts off rooms for different times of the year and the bb offers and timeframes change every few months.

We are going to Disney in August from a bb we booked last August. At that time, the bb was free dining from Aug. 18 -Sept. 13, 2013.

if you don't receive a bb offer, dial ext 8844 from your room to see if there is a current offer available.

Hey, y'all... I just freed up a spot at BBB at 1:00 on Sunday, October 21st if anyone wants to scoop it up. princess: Decided my 3yo DD is just too young right now to justify the money. Originally signed her up because we're doing CRT that evening for the first time but decided to do Pirates League a different day instead along with my other two DS's.

AND, on a separate note... I waited forever on the BBB call line the other day but discovered today that the WDW Dining phone line can access BBB and Pirates League, too. That was a time saver, and the gal I talked to was really helpful!

Actually, they are in all rooms. Most people don't know where to look. It is inside the booklet that is on the table. :goodvibes

Is there an October Facebook group?

Yup. DIS'er October 2013. I'm on my phone or I would link it. You have to ask to join after your search.

We are going fron Oct. 12-19. Super excited. Did not realize it was a holiday in the US on Oct. 14, booked these dates because it is the Canadian Thanksgiving on the 14th so one less holiday day we had to take from work. I am very confused now as to where to stay. Trying to decide from POR, POFQ or CSR. We will be picking up a rental car at the airport so I don't know if this makes a difference when trying to decide where to stay. Any input would be very much appreciated:)

POFQ is my favorite!!! It's small and quiet. Riverside was really nice but a bit large for what I like. Most kids like the pool here and there is a lot to do. Haven't stayed at CSR but a few people I know love it! They are all great. Any one you choose will be awesome =)

We are heading down the 13th - 16th because of Canadian Thanksgiving too. I agree with KermitRinny....POFQ is awesome!!!!! POR is a close second, especially if you will be using your rental car instead of the buses.

October 27- November 2 vacation is now officially paid off ! The in laws are going too, which actually turned out to be extremely lucky cause my mother in law got a free dining code! We did have to change our resort but it doesn't matter to us. We are just too excited to be going, and now to be saving money!
